"Link wields the Master Sword and a diverse arsenal of equipment. Use all of his weapons to adapt to the ebb and flow of battle." So where is his Ball and Chain and the Spinner? Heh. Also, these are just about the worst bios I've seen for Mario and Link. Jumping action? Pleh. |
Is there a tentative list of characters yet? It sounds like Nintendo is going to possibly have twice as many playable characters as SSBM.

I find it quite cleverly done how they pretty much introduce the site's final content piece by piece in blog style. |

And it holds folks' attention longer, so it seems. |
I believe that's what they did with Melee too, releasing info for one character at a time. After the game was released, then they started showing the unlockables. At least this is what I thought, because when I first saw the site, it was months after the initial release, and everything has been unlocked already.

Ya know, I was always very surprised that they never made any kind of 'jump' attack for Mario. The uppercut doesn't count. I mean, I think it would have been pretty funny if he lands on your head from a regular jump and it knocks your hit percentage up about 5-10% or so. Oh well.
|
I strongly hope that Sonic is gonna be one of the newcomers !!!
After all, both Nintendo and Sega staff, including Yuki Naka and Miyamoto, and a lot of SSB and Sonic fans want him to be in there... And maybe he won't be alone ? (Shadow would be a pity but I'd prefer Knuckles :D) |
Oh come on, you know all Sonic fans just want him in the game so they have a chance of seeing Tails in the game as well (or possibly in the next installment in the series).
|
It's quite possible that you won't see Sonic in the game just because SEGA might want too much in licensing fees for Nintendo to feel like it's worth it. Sonic is a megastar game character much in the vein of Mario, whereas some of the lesser-knowns from some third party developers might be more affordable (or free if the company needs some exposure).
It'd be cool if Sonic showed up, but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't, either. |
All this talk of third party characters brings back memories of the massive circular discussions in the other SSBB thread. After todays update I'm now really interested to see what type of new items they'll throw in to the game I totally forgot that items are a huge part of playing smash bros. I'd be a bit sad and surprised (very surprised) if they got rid of the proximity bomb or the poke ball
|
Well you got your wish, somedude. Today's update explains the item called a gooey bomb.
I really hope Sonic is in the game too, but I doubt they'll do it just so they can save it up for Olympic Games game. |

Then it explodes! Oh, the horror! |
Heh, the Gooey Bomb looks to be neat. Is it from any game in particular, or perhaps is it an original item?
It's some of the neat little changes like in this screen shot: http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/items...01_070524c.jpg where Mario is still facing Wario while running in a different direction that's kind of neat. I wonder if they'll have the characters doing that in regular play. On the topic of items, though, I'd love to see the original bumper from Super Smash Bros. make a return. It's absence from Melee was a travesty. |
Haha, the gooey bomb will be great. Nothing was more fun in Perfect Dark than tossing proximity bombs right onto your opponent's face. Wasn't the motion-sensor bomb in Melee's design taken from Perfect Dark? It may be the reason that they're changing it.
|
Hell, if the gooey bomb is a timed bomb and it gets stuck to you, then you can try running into other opponents to take them down with you. It would be like playing keep-away. Sounds fun.

Unlikely, but I hope they take out the fan, since it felt really boring in comparison to the other items. Proximity bombs were my favourite item so gooey bombs are a devilishly fun addition. I also wonder how the Nintendog is going to work if that's still in from the trailer.
|
It seems as if the Gooey Bomb was inspired by the sticky from Halo.
|
Eh, if anything it's actually an original weapon based on sticky grenades which were used at one point. Sounds like oodles of fun, whether you try tagging folks with it or throwing it somewhere like the mines.
Edit: Looks like the latest update is a character profile for Pit, along with screens: Oh and the backgrounds are downright awesome. I'm looking foward to seeing more of what seems to be Fox's new stage. http://i19.tinypic.com/6cdywic.jpg http://i15.tinypic.com/5xe5zte.jpg http://i7.tinypic.com/627ls00.jpg http://i14.tinypic.com/4qpou9s.jpg |
Yay for more info on Pit! It is about time they brought him out of retirement. I hope that they include a few other not-so-popular NES characters too. (And hopefully they will not be as lame as the Ice Climbers.)

I really think there are enough notable characters from mario games being left out as it is... TOAD, Birdo, Shyguy most obviously.
Diddy Kong is conspicuously absent. Poo, Paula and Jeff from EarthBound. King Hippo from Punch Out! Eggplant Wizard to compliment Pit. Mike Jones from StarTropics. MIKE JONES, THE ONE AND ON'... Jill from Drill Dozer. Tin Star from Tin Star! (gasp) Nester (the Nintendo Power mascot) a.k.a. Lark from Pilotwings 64. And another cool option would be to let people use their Mii character as a fighter (with slightly more stylized graphics or something)... of course the moveset would be the same for every Mii, but they could look different depending on who was playing. |
