This game will be mine.

PiccoloNamek Feb 22, 2007 04:27 AM

That song is pure awesome. Damn, I can't wait. I will buy this soundtrack.

No. Hard Pass. Feb 23, 2007 04:37 PM

Pre-Order GOT.

Signed me up for it today, I did.

Metal Sphere Feb 28, 2007 02:24 PM

Wow, this trailer is absolutely fantastic. Check it out:

Official Japanese trailer

The music, the voices and the artwork are all top notch. I can see where some folks might not like how the characters move, but I think it looks decent enough.

Elixir Feb 28, 2007 02:49 PM

I really can't tell what's up with the graphics. They look like sprites one minute, and 3D the next.

Twilight's Twin Feb 28, 2007 08:18 PM

Oh man, Metal Sphere, thank you for finding that. The game looks even better than I imagined. I was sort of worried that it looked too good to be true from previous screens and that dinky teaser. But it actually looks as good as we imagined. Actually, the animations look BETTER! I absolutely can not wait for this game.

And dig the sort of celtic remix of what I guess is the main theme from the website. So pretty.

Muzza Mar 1, 2007 12:38 AM

Now there's something different. Those graphics really mesmerised me...they're just so stunning. The movement blends in so perfectly with the graphics it's just silly. The music, as expected, sounded impressive as well; the battles look exciting enough, and the battle animations are also quite spectacular. Lookin' forward to it more and more every day, even if the graphics do perplex me.

The symbol (?) for the game, shown at the end of the video, reminds me strongly of Kingdom Hearts. Meh, somehow I think this game will be better than KH.

Mucknuggle Mar 1, 2007 12:42 AM

Oh wow. That looks nice. Is it 2d? Very unique art style... I'm hoping they bring it over with Japanese audio or at least make an effort to hire an outstanding English voice cast.

Dizzy Mar 1, 2007 01:26 AM

The game looks amazing. It seems that they are using the "puppet" method for animation. Basically the character sprite is not one single sprite. One sprite is one arm, another the leg, etc. so they can move them freely and not having to draw every single frame of the sprite. This has been seen in many Bandai games for psx (Gundam fighting series, Inu Yasha, etc.). It saves animation frames and it looks more fluid.

When are we supposed to see this game in English? End of the year?:(

Localization is apparently under way, given that we already have a good number of screens in english. BTW, you're dead on with the animation technique. Maybe August?

So, yeah this is 2-D. Not to mention, it has layered backgrounds with their own animations and details. Definitely a nice touch there.

According to GameStop's release date list, I believe this game hits stores May 15th or somewhere thereabout.

That can't be, since the trailer has May 17th at the end. I'm assuming that's the Japanese release date, and not the one for NA.

BTW, what are the chances of the NA version being released soon (1 month or 2) after the Japanese version?

SouthJag Mar 1, 2007 07:21 PM

I've no idea. Maybe this is a game Atlus is publishing (assuming they're not developing it, or if they are then that's cool too) in the US first.

Twilight's Twin Mar 1, 2007 09:59 PM

Well, the official English press release said late Spring 2007. I can't imagine why it would be this title, but I think they might actually be pulling a simul-release.

Burp Mar 3, 2007 06:22 AM

Yeah guys, this game is fully 2D because, to be honest, is the only "ZOMG" talent of Vanillaware, Princess Crown is awesome... it was the best test to show in Japan that Saturn was more powerfull in 2D than PSOne.

Vanillaware is also doing Grim Grimoire, looks great too, but this is 2D revolution... the revolution that i was wishing all my life... the most impressive thing is that i dont know how the PS2 RAM can handle all this.

This game is gonna be the "lost gem" of the PS2 era, buy it! BUY IT BECAUSE IN TWO OR THREE MORE YEARS IT WILL COST $100000000 LIKE PRINCESS CROWN.

Miles Mar 13, 2007 01:33 AM

Pre-order this sucker today!

Gamestop has the game listed for a 5/21/2007 release. The game shipping on a Monday seems odd since they usually ship on Tuesdays, but whatever. And it's listed at a $39.99 price. Sweet!

orion_mk3 Mar 13, 2007 09:07 PM

There's a new song sample up at the offical website:

Did this weeks ago. Keep up OLD MAN.

NEW VIDEO OF THE AMERICAN VERSION!:

http://atlus.com/

Scroll down to the bottom and on the right is an area labeled FRESH MEDIA. There you will find a little flash video of what appears to be the idle start screen cinema. More gameplay is shown. The video is tiny and hard to see, but what you CAN see looks fantastic. (direct link here if you want, though with the low-ass resolution it doesn't look so good all blown up.) The shot at the end from the title screen of the moonlit forest is quite resplendent.

Muzza Mar 28, 2007 01:56 AM

I like how the trees just sway in the breeze at the title screen, while the camera moves around them and the night sky. Overall, the trailer has reinvigorated my excitement about this game. Awesome is written all over it.

And the song that plays in the background? Brilliant.

Twilight's Twin Apr 9, 2007 06:37 PM

Um yeah...

So while the site was offline, Atlus updated the Odin Sphere site with a much higher res copy of the video I pointed out recently PLUS a downloadable song. You should all click the link:

There's a nice 10 page spead in May's Play magazine.
The interview is with George Kamitani and Hiroyuki Tanaka.

It says they are doing a simultaneous release and that
the English version will include the choice between
English/Japanese audio. WIN! I am sooo happy about that,
I was debating to import or not.

Muzza Apr 22, 2007 12:39 AM

You're right, that new bit of information is made of "win". :D I'm glad they decided to take this approach, similar to the Atelier Iris games. I generally prefer the Japanese audio to the English, to be honest.

Edit: Oh yeah, simultaneous release FTW...assuming there aren't any bugs. Meh, I'm sure they'd be fixed for the PAL release anyway...

Kairi Li May 7, 2007 06:22 PM

Whats the gameplay like in this game? Full action or mixture or turn base and action like VP2? The trailer makes it look like a side scrolling action RPG.

It's a side scrolling RPG, not turn based. Apparently this game isn't easy, with comments on dying often being pretty common. Luckily, they also mention that retries are pretty quick. Eh, know what? I'll just put up the play magazine pages again along with the 1Up preview.

And just after that, it pretty much confirms the previous mention of dual language tracks:

Here's the latest trailer + game demonstration. It's a pretty good indication of how battles flow in this game, as well as some other odd looking activities.
