This is all I can really offer...

Also, from what articles I've read in PSM and OPM the PS3 will not come with a hard drive but will act like the PSP and use different size memory cards to store things.

Megalith Mar 3, 2006 05:55 PM

Do people seriously believe that it will launch before Fall.

PS3 hasn't even been shown yet.

T1249NTSCJ Mar 3, 2006 08:31 PM

Fall at the very latest but this'll only apply to the Japanese release, U.S. gamers will have to wait. :argue:
I don't see Sony pulling off a worldwide release. :juggler:

That would cause a shortage that would make the 360 and PS2 launch look small in comparison to the mad rush that would ensue when the PS3 hits shelves. I'll peg the Japanese lanch May 6, 2006 and the US release November 11, 2006, when do all of you think the PS3 will debut?

LivingDreams Mar 3, 2006 09:20 PM

I'm thinking of a november release for Japan and then a North American release followed shortly after and then a Eropean release.

Kaiten Mar 3, 2006 09:36 PM

For some reason I think Sony won't release the PS3 in the summer, mainly because summer is the weakest time for game releases. In Japan though, the gaming industry doesn't live for Christmas as much as the US does, which is a good thing (I hate it when the crowd mega releases in the early Winter).

LivingDreams Mar 3, 2006 10:28 PM

I wish it would be released this summer in north america, but yea I doub't they will release it this summer.

Metal Sphere Mar 3, 2006 10:50 PM

Hmm, I'm guessing May/June for Japan and September/October for the U.S. with Europe getting it either late November or anytime in Dec.

LivingDreams Mar 3, 2006 11:04 PM

I got a feeling that europe will either get it late december or early 2007.

I was quite surprised by their games list, as I haven't heard about even half of these titles until now. The sci fi and RPG type games sound incredible, especially titles like Alan Wake (sounds creepy).

I think it's hopeful optimism that they confirm FFVII Remake as a title, but hey, I'm waiting for an announcement myself.

IIRC, Tetsuya Nomura has gone on record saying he wants to. Seeing as he's such a large part of Square-Enix now, I think the only thing in the way is how much he has to be juggling.

Metal Sphere Mar 4, 2006 12:56 AM

His team just got down with KHII and Dirge of Cerberus, but I think they're also up for the next FF (or is it Kitase's go this time). Either way, as you said, it depends on how much they've got on their hands.

Soldier Mar 4, 2006 01:14 AM

Of course it's been said several times that he wants to do it, there's no surprise there. But the real question is 'when' he'll do it, or if he's even working on it now.

It's hard to say what Nomura is working on as he's commented that he's got a multiple number of projects he's going to be working on. As for the FFVII remake, Nomura originally stated he had no interest in a FFVII remake but last September he changed his tune and expressed some interest in heading the remake after all his other projects were done. No doubt the success of Advent Children swayed his original comment.

Anyways did anyone check out the new edition of the 1UP Show with some shots of The Darkness and PS3 footage of John Woo's Strangehold?

Is The Darkness based on the comic of the same name, or what.

I hope like hell europe doesn't need to wait until 07. I mean, the 360 was released in 05. And the PS3 is being released in 07? That's quite a gap for Microsoft to fill.

Time fly's so soon you wont even realize, except for the companies noticing how how much money they made or lost.

Yeah, that's why you'll notice I said late November or anytime in December, rather than early 2007. It's possible Sony may launch in Sept with the PS3, giving them about 3 months more to iron out issues and get supplies up over the summer.

WraithTwo Mar 4, 2006 08:46 AM

Considering that Sony isn't even saying anything more about the system until E3, I bet the earliest the US will see it will be November (with 2007 being quite possible).

Metal Sphere Mar 4, 2006 01:16 PM

Err, what the fuck? That hardly makes any sense at all Wraith. E3's the biggest gaming bash for the industry, and if you launch shortly before or after it, you're bound to get an extra boost of hype.

Spring 2006 is vague for a reason, since they could launch it well into June in Japan and still be able to do so in the U.S. in October or Decemeber and be in the clear while hyping it over the summer.

kainlightwind Mar 4, 2006 03:50 PM

My guess is we'll get some PS3 info at GDC on March 22nd. Then E3 we'll see the system itself, games, etc. 2 - 4 weeks after it'll launch in Japan first. Then US will get a Oct 26th release date, five years after the PS2 launch. If this happened to be a world wide release, that would be a bit shocking. Sony's delay is because of the whole Blu Ray issue with Hollywood, which seems to be fixed over since the Blr Ray players are coming in May. So it's a good sign that the PS3 is in full production. So what does that leave us? Information. We need some new information. GDC is going to open the lid I bet on price, release date and their online goal. Anything else shown would be awesome. But don't give your hopes up. Sony is being very tight lipped about all of this.

SonicEchidna Mar 4, 2006 07:42 PM

I believe the earliest Europe will see of the PS3 is late 2006 to early 2007. I just can't see the console being released within the next few months, and getting to Europe by the summer.

Late Summer 2006 for Japan and the US at a push, but that's as far as I'm gonna go in speculating the release date, as I'm not usually very accurate with my predictions.
