I knew Microsoft was going to pull something like this. At first I thought metal gear solid 4, but realized they had a contract with sony. So whats the ps3's other exclusive title?

"oh, lets take that then", Final Fantasy 13
You do realize Microsoft didn't buy Square-Enix, right? S-E came to an agreement with Microsoft. Sure, knowing them it's entirely likely it included a giant box of cash, but if S-E was as loyal to Sony as fanboys assumed they were, they could've easily said no! It's not like S-E hasn't been publishing games on every console made in the past 10 years or so anyway.

Yes. Most people will release their game in a manner that provides them the most possible profit. Square Enix does not exist to enrich the world with art, they exist to make money. Period.

Thank you for shutting that member up.

I've been a huge fan of FF for a good 15 years now. I was happy with Square's move to PS and I am happy now about Xbox.

espressivo Jul 15, 2008 06:58 PM

the only reason why i'm bothered by this is that the 360 version has to be finished before they can release the ps3 one. they've been working on the ps3 version for about 2 years now, and I'm guessing the xbox version has been in development for about 4-6months. I don't know how long it takes to port the code and what not, but ps3 owners are going to have to wait longer than if it was exclusive to the ps3.

i wonder if sony or square enix ever said it was only possible on ps3. heh heh

Have you been reading the articles about this, or just the headlines?

They're releasing it in Japan first. Since the game would take months to localize ANYWAY, they're going to port it to the 360 at the same time. The PS3 version is not getting any more delayed than it already would have, so please stop whining.

Or what about the tech demo for FFVI that they had years ago for N64, didn't anyone think that at that time square would stick with nintendo.

That's what I mean. If the big game you're waiting for is FFXIII, which was announced in like 2006 and probably won't be released until the end of this year at the minimum, why did you buy a console before now? Were there other games coming out for the PS3 that you wanted? That's all I'm asking, why people bought a console for a game that was going to come out well over a year or two later than the purchase.

FFXIII E32008 Trailer

I took the liberty of converting the direct-feed e3 2008 trailer stream which square enix put on their website to an avi. You can download it here:

ff13e32008.avi - FileFront.com

The trailer is mostly a rearranged version of stuff we've already seen with a few new scenes.

Uhh what kind of logic is that.

I bought a PS3 console in June 2007 and yes, I also did it because I wanted to be able to play games like GTA IV or Final Fantasy XIII. It did not exactly matter to me when those games were going to be released. I mean, why should I buy the console two days before a certain game is going to be released if there are enough other good games out now?

What exactly is wrong about an anticipated purchase like that?

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Jul 16, 2008 07:08 AM

You're missing her point, Mush. Lurker wasn't questioning buying a console for the games that are already out and also looking forward to future titles, she was asking why some people are claiming to have bought a PS3 on the launch day specifically so they could probably play FFXIII three years later.

That green creature is Carbuncle, a summon which has appeared many times in past FF games.

Carbuncles are green, have long ears like a bunny and always in every incarnation had a red gemstone on its foreheard. Though that Jester outfit is new....

As to why people bought a PS3 on launch with the sole intent of playing a game that comes out 3-4 years later... I say its overexcitement and impatience. Those people assume the PS3 is gonna rock and that FF13 is always gonna be exclusive, and decided waiting to see the situation isn't their style. And now they pay for it.

My PS3 wasn't purchased till the day MGS4 came out, and I currently have not bought my own 360 yet because I knew some better ones with new motherboards or chips are coming out soon. I waited and didn't jump the gun over every shiny new game, and I think its gonna pay off better than the people who spend $600 on a PS3 just got FF13, and the 360 owners who now have to sit and wait for monthes to get their Red Ringed console back. A little patience and research means you save alot of your time and money.

But, most folks don't wanna research and never wanna wait.

If you bought a PS3 for various games like Mush did, instead of JUST that one or two games that wont come out for years and you are happy with your purchase, great. But my god I've been seeing so many whiners in other forums crying cause their precious PS3 lost its prized exclusive, and whining that they spend $600 on a console that is no longer worth it. Book fucking hoo to them for not wait and see.

Ah, I see. I know what Carbuncle is, but it sort of looked like a green version of the FFXII Moogle, so I was a little scared. Heh.

Well I bought my ps3 in jan of 08, well after a few great games were already out in the market and after the price drop so I don't know why some people assume that everyone that suspected FFXIII to be exclusive bought the ps3 in day 1.
So I got my ps3 way after they started the creation of final fantasy XIII and the decision to make it multi couldn't have been that same day on e3. And like I said before, I'm not pissed that FFXIII went to branch out (thats great to those who can't afford both consoles.) Just disappointed that sony has become so careless to lose so many exclusives. Soon enough all they'll have left is SCEA.
I would have known before hand that both consoles would be twins then i would have gone with the cheapest.
Well no I lied there. Theres no exclusive that would have taken my attention away from mgs4 . Although the cancellation of heavenly sword 2 was also kinda of a blow ~_~
Wonder twin powers Activate!

Clever :)

I myself am very excited to not have the necessity of purchasing a PS3 anymore. I just finished FFXII (with the Wyrmhero blade... I know I know, I have no life), and could not be more ready for a new experience. I think I'll go back and replay VII-IX in anticipation.

And if the music this time is NOT fully orchestrated, I'm boycotting videogame music in general. That's a lie, but I would feel like doing it.

Edit: I mean orchestrated as in, prepared for and recorded with a real orchestra. No more synth. That's so 1998.

There's something wrong with asking somebody why they bought a console without first waiting to see if it'll have more than a couple of games they're interested in? The guy was bitching because, if he had known then what he knows now, he would've gotten an xbox - which is perfectly logical and is why I was wondering why he and others like him made the purchase so early.

Zeta26 Jul 16, 2008 05:54 PM

For me, I bought the 360 just at the right time. Because Microsoft already had several great looking RPGs. Eternal Sonata (even though it's in it's "incomplete" form, in terms of story and extras), then there's Lost Odyssey. And to top it all off, half of this year's jRPGs will be going to 360 alone. Like The Last Remnant, Infinite Undiscovery, Spectral Force 3 etc...

Celisasu Jul 18, 2008 04:47 AM

Yeah, I don't get the buying a system for something that's 3+ years away either other than impatience and money burning a hole in one's wallet. That's why I didn't get a PS3 when it came out. I want FFXIII and Disgaea 3 but I figured there'd be a long wait for them and a chance for some price drops on the PS3 as well as the possibility of ports eliminating the need to get the system at all. With games going multiplatform more and more frequently soon all that'll matter will be first party games for deciding your system.

Leaked Versus trailer

FF-XIII.net ~ Final Fantasy XIII - Versus XIII - Agito XIII

There was a shot in the trailer that had a Reno and Rude lookalike. One thing I won't deny, Nomura needs some fucking versatility.

Though I still like pretty FF FMV girls as my Icon...

You know, I realise that was entirely for my benefit, and yet still, I'm placated.

I almost hope this goes multi-console, just so the internet can explode again.

Wow, that looks pretty cool. Some characters actually look "human" instead of supermodels :), finally! Thx for the link.

August 3, 2008 - Square Enix fans were thrilled to enter the DKΣ3713 Private Party and check out ten of the company's most anticipated titles. However, Tetsuya Nomura had an extra surprise for attendees at the event – a behind the scenes documentary filmed at the Square Enix internal studio that was only completed yesterday by Nomura himself at 8:40 in the morning. What seemed rather apparent from the start of the documentary was that Nomura's filming was a surprise to everyone – many of the designers and character artists seemed shocked that he was taping at all, and were nervous about some of the elements being shown, including some character designs and concept art of Final Fantasy XIII versus the game translation. There was even some gameplay shown of Final Fantasy 13 which highlighted the size and scale of the world.

While this went on for a minute or two, the documentary soon shifted over to early development footage of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which showed the main character running around through different environments. It also showed off a sequence that was included within the trailer montage of the young king climbing a staircase, although the trailer paused and the camera was manipulated in real time with a mouse. The developers zoomed out and spun around the character, focusing on the lighting on his face and the detail within the environment. This, and a few other sections within the trailer montage was shown in-engine in real time, and was emphasized by the development team that it wasn't CG at all.

In fact, the next sequence was a round table style discussion with Motomu Toriyama, Hajime Tabata and others, where they discussed elements of Final Fantasy XIII. The inclusion of Versus XIII was specifically done to highlight that the development on the game was real, as the team had read numerous rumors online that stated that the game didn't exist. The developers also wanted to make a specific point about how Final Fantasy XIII is still being developed on the PS3 first, even with the recent announcement of the game crossing over to the Xbox 360. Apparently, the team is focusing on the PS3 as the main development platform, and will release the game in Japan first. The North American and European versions of Final Fantasy XIII on the PS3 will be held back until the 360 version is done so a simultaneous release can be made.

The designers also made a point to debunk the Internet rumor of Final Fantasy XIII coming to the PC, a rumor they claimed was made from a misunderstood comment from E3 this year. Nomura mentioned that he was trying to explain that he develops his games on a PC instead of indicating that Final Fantasy would be coming to a PC.

From there, the room of designers talked about the upcoming demo of Final Fantasy XIII, which will be included on the Blu-Ray disc of Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete. They aren't sure exactly which section of the game will be included on the disc, and they're still deciding what areas will be included for the demo itself, but it should be a large bonus for the disc. Nomura and his team also pointed out that while development on Final Fantasy XIII is fully underway, there are still a number of elements that need to be worked on, such as some characters that haven't been approved of yet, and other gameplay features. They also mentioned that while they're casting voice actors for the game's roles, they haven't made a decision yet, although they think that TGS might be the first time that such an announcement would be made.

So what we know from the trailer and screens

[bottom left side]
Command Reel - You'll choose your various actions [Escape, Items, Attack, V-Strike etc...]

[bottom of screen, aligned=center]

ATB Gauge - Each action taken from the Command Reel will be subtracted from this gauge

Above that...

[Command Input]

Looks something like this;
[attack]--[attack]--[V-Strike]--[Blizzard]--[Fire] <= my example of actions

[] = input box for the commands that you would put in [there are 5 in all]. Which a blank box would mean that you didn't put something in the box

Above that....

[Information]

This basically tells what the action [that you have selected does].

Sorry if it's not accurate enough ^^;.

Features added
  • Airships
  • Summons

Demo will last for over 2 hours

Final Fantasy XIII demo to last over two hours :: PlayStation Universe (PSU)

Quote:

According to the upcoming DKS3713 issue of Famitsu magazine, the PlayStation 3 exclusive Final Fantasy XIII demo will clock in at a longer running time than the CGI film, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete.

Currently the original Advent Children film clocks in at a runtime of 101mins; however, the Blu-ray version of the movie will feature scenes that were either cut completely or not finished in time for the initial release, resulting in a significantly longer runtime.

Here is a list of other tidbits revealed from the three-page spread in Famitsu:

-The Final Fantasy XIII demo will be based from the opening section of the game.
-The demo will come on a separate disc rather than on the Advent Children Blu-ray.
- Mr. 33CM's real name is based off of weather as well.
- One of the female characters, refered to as 'Pigtails Girl', has been through some tough times.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete is scheduled for release in March 2009
I gotta say, if the above is true, that would be awesome. The FF12 demo barely lasted 30 mins for me...
