So my one major gripe with playing online right now is that there's absolutely no notification whatsoever when someone adds you. How hard could it be for the game to send you a message "So and so has added your friend code, do you accept?" Right now I've gone through about 19 of the names on the wiki and I've got nothing but "awaiting registration" so it's getting annoying trying to figure out who the few people who've added me are. I didn't buy this game for the online play, but I feel like Nintendo could have done a much better job with it (who knows, maybe they'll have a patch that improves these kind of things).

28Link Mar 12, 2008 10:08 PM

Indeed that's annoying. I've added everyone, and I've PMed all of them (thanks for the reply, guys), but I think some of the ones that added me back are still "waiting for registration". I'm not too sure yet, since I spent most of my gaming time today finishing up SSE, but damn, it just bugs me.

Surprisingly good actually. I'd recommend this one if you absolutely cannot get a Gamecube controller. The analog stick is precise and both A and B are easily reachable. Again you'll have to get used to grab/throw (which is A + B, not too hard) and shield/roll/dodge (which is mapped to Z, or the Left Trigger. I think Left trigger was dodge on the gamecube controller too, but I always used the right trigger, so it's unnatural to me.) Otherwise, a solid choice.

Remember that it's possible to remap the controls as well, so you can always configure it to what's most comfortable for you.

For example (I use wiimote + nunchuk), I have problems jumping by pressing the analog stick up so I set jump to down on the wiimote's d-pad. Grab was changed to z on the nunchuk, etc. Shield as the C button on the nunchuk is entirely intuitive (same feel as the N64 controller), so yeah. Only thing I had to get adjusted to was using B attacks with my index finger...

One of the Miles (forgot character) and I (Sonic) get trapped between two Mr. Game & Watch (Rollins and the other Miles) attacks for a good 10 seconds as our percentage bars just shoot straight up until we're gone. I literally was rolling on the floor for a while after that one. Sup Miles, which one were you? :p

That match was fun, but our game was really REALLY laggy during that time. In fact, Roll's got red lag to me on my friend list. =( And yeah, I was the other Game and Watch. My friend was swearing and calling me a cheap bitch as we did that to him. Oh... good times!

Sheesh, I just played with BigCN41 and Icy and those games were laggy as hell too. There were too many moments where everything would pause for 5 or more seconds. It's kind of annoying having to play like this. It's probably my stupid vdsl connection. Buggy crap it is.

I had a hella hard time with Toon Link and Wolf. Surprisingly, it only took me one try to beat Jigglypuff.

I picked up the CD for it somewhere early on in SSE, I think...though to be honest, I couldn't tell you where for sure exactly. :(

I've been concentrating more on the single player stuff. 91% on SSE, All the Melee stages unlocked and a lot of the challenges done, all the event matches done (on normal, and a few on hard for the challenges). (I hope they'll give me a notice when all the music's unlocked. :annoyed: ) I hit the 50,000 mark on the home run contest thing too, nothing there as well. Though that was a real pain. And some of the target smash challenges were pretty annoying too, namely the ones where you have to complete them in a certain time.

I know I'm still missing a few stages, but I don't know how many for sure and what I need to do to unlock them. I guess that's partly why I'm trying to do a lot of the challenges. Going through the target smashes with EVERYBODY sure gets tedious. :><:

That lag was probably me. I noticed my connection acting ridiculously slow (well, it's kind of hard not to notice) when I tried playing a match against Summonmaster and StarmanDX. It's like my connection can't handle matches with more than two people. I can't even get in on random Brawls online. Bleh.

It's things like this that made me very hesitant to distribute my brawl code, because I know damn well that I'm far away from everyone that I would play with. I don't know the latency-by-distance system, as any people whom I already know and play with are between 45-125 miles away. So far, those games ran smooth with hardly the slightest bit of lag.

EXP with latency for me... out of sheer randomness, in the middle of a match (Anyone mode), it just started lagging, then the match froze, and I got knocked out. I know it's not my connection, as it is constantly running well, but I'm sure the distance was the factor.

Miles Mar 13, 2008 12:26 AM

I notice its only bad when I play against east coast people. Playing my local friends over the internet gives them a green ball for ping. And even though my Residential Gateway is connected at 25/2 I have high ping times because AT&T sucks ass. I just get mad when I die a cheap death because the game keeps pausing and my input comes out like 5 seconds later resulting in me being unable to save myself or just wandering off the edge of a stage. ._.

Guru Mar 13, 2008 01:23 AM

It really helps to set up your Wii to have a static IP. You'll have a lot better ping as a result, and set your MTU to 1500.

I couldn't even connect, and now I'm playing pretty smooth against a lot of people. 1 on 1's there's basically no lag at all...and the only time I see a lot of lag is on stages with a lot of "stuff" going on, like pokemon shooting crescent things all over hitting everyone, or when someone has a really complicated final smash.

Played some fun matches against Miles, Lacerta, Kai, Slash, Summonmaster and SuperSonic. Was a little laggy at times, but like I said, only on really complicated stages.

Lacerta Mar 13, 2008 01:29 AM

Apparently the Aura is no match for Counter.

I was honestly surprised at how flawless the matches were, with the exception of little hiccups now and then.

SuperSonic Mar 13, 2008 01:34 AM

If it weren't for the lag and the fact that I never once got a final smash at Hyrule Temple, Sonic would've kicked your asses. XD

I got my revenge with Marth, though...only to go back to total suckage with Jigglypuff in the next match (2 suicides :(). All in all, good games Slash, Guru, and Lace.

Slash Mar 13, 2008 01:52 AM

LoL GG SS. You were seriously like gunning for me the entire last half of the brawl when you were Marth and I was G&W.

Guru Mar 13, 2008 02:01 AM

I hate every character with a sword. Seriously.

Also, I had never seen Diddy's final smash, and the first time I got it it was lagging so I kinda, flew around and suicided. I figured it out the second time though, and it was pretty badass =P

Slash Mar 13, 2008 02:22 AM

Yeah..the lag in our game was pretty heavy when we got the final smashes.

Chaotic Mar 13, 2008 02:22 AM

Today's Update: More Secret Melee Stages (Jungle Japes, Green Greens, Pokemon Stadium and Big Blue)

Kinda threw me off when they brought back Green Greens instead of Fountain of Dreams... Fountain of Dreams was awesome.

Reading the update and thinking about it, since I haven't unlocked this stage yet... Didn't Jungle Japes suddenly become easy to deal with since you could actually swim in this game, or does the water rush too fast that there's no time to recover?

Slash Mar 13, 2008 02:23 AM

I wish the music for Fountain of Dreams was in the game.

And I wish I could put Bramble Scramble on the custom stages.

I thought Fountain of Dreams was in the game... I believe it ended up on the soundtrack...

And I love that track also (I thought it was called Bramble Blast?). Probably one of the best in the game.

Slash Mar 13, 2008 02:34 AM

Actually I think its called Stickerbrush Symphony

I've been in love with that song since day one.

Oh fuck..nvm...apparently I have to wait to pick up a fucking cd...so gay

Chaotic Mar 13, 2008 02:55 AM

Speaking of in-game CDs, isn't it horrible when they drop a CD on the stage, and you literally have a split second to react and pick it up?

The moment it hits the floor, it's ready to disappear. What's worse, most of the CD they slap on me are on the other side of the stage. ;_;

Well that explains why 1/2 the time when I play someone has a Final Smash out of nowhere. :erm:
Plus I need to add more of the people on the wiki list.

Yea.

Spoiler:
Like when you finish the fight with Ridley, and when the camera scrolls down the CD is barely visible.

When I fought against Star and...someone else (forgot who), I had terrible lag, but I turned on that DMZ thingie that was mentioned several times here afterwards and it definitely helped. My connection was pretty good when I fought against Guru and Miles. I'm on the east coast by the way.Sorry, Kairyu, but I had to decline your invite. My sister wanted to play : /

I still wish to battle summonmaster and Chaotic. Everytime I see them online, they're always already brawling with other people :(

My sister unlocked WW Link yesterday, but now we're having trouble getting Wolf >_> I wish he was located at the beginning of the ruins 'cause I hate getting there.

P.S. I see this everywhere but I never know what they're for. What the hell do those pieces of paper do???

P.P.S. I FINALLY managed to connect with random people in With Anyone.

Dr. Uzuki Mar 13, 2008 06:06 AM

Just cleared SSE. The Great Maze was actually surprisingly satisfying. Going through all that my preferred characters completely changed from what they were. I initially did not like Pit and never really gave Zelda a chance but now they're two of my favorites.

My connection issues have got nothing but worse. Saw some of you online earlier today and had no luck connecting. Forget a random game. Oh well. Time to get those last three characters.

I'm pretty sure the pieces of paper are stickers.

I'm pretty sure they're stickers. That's my guess. Anyways, my experience with online is actually pretty damn good compared to the ones other people have said on here. I need to try somebody on the west coast to see if the lag is really that bad. I've added a few people on the list, but I haven't checked to see if they're confirmed yet. This is annoying trying to find a nickname for people in 5 letters. I wasn't sure how to rearrange "Chaotic" without looking close to "Chato"
