I can't remember how many times I was climbing the first scarab to reach the weak spot for massive damage and I get shot by the second scarab's death beam outta nowhere.
I also had my warthog stepped on once during the level, really took my by surprise but I couldn't contain my lolling. |
That's why you should fall out of the sky onto the scarabs on that map. What you do is ride the mongoose and park it next to the hornets when they show up, then ride along as a passenger on a hornet and the pilot will fly right over the top of the right side scarab, at which point you jump off onto it and take it out. Then you immediately run back up to your mongoose and use the big hill that is next to the second scarab to ramp the mongoose over it, at which point you jump off onto it. The scarabs basically don't even know what hit them it happens so quick.
I think I might do that again tonight so I can get some sweet screenshots of it. |

I personally can't wait to see the speedruns for 3, shoving vehicles through gaps to go beyond points you were supposed to take by foot, etc. |
Hahaha, check out the forum banner. Bigblah forgot to put it up on the 25th, but it's there now. Galen made it! =D

Easiest way to beat a Scarab towards the end there is to get in a hornet. Paralyze the legs, and then shoot the big glowing target on the back end. This blows the whole back of the Scarab off, and you now have a clear sight of the target. After I figured this out it was a breeze.
|
Hah, you can blow that off? I had no idea.
It's far, far, FAR more fun to do it the hard way though. My favorite is landing the Hornet on the thing, blowing it up, getting back in the Hornet and flying away as the damn thing blows up. It damages the shit out of you if you're not fast enough, but it's super fucking epic and makes for some great screenshots. |
Most definately. I just wanted people to know the easier way to do it because it would be nearly impossible to do it any other way on Legendary I would think.
But yeah, I only found that out because I like seeing what all can blow apart in a game when I go through it a second time. So I kind of just stumbled upon this. |
So I finished the game on normal (woah) and I think the only way I ever died was by falling off the driving stage at the end.
Gotta say having not played the first two games, the story was really not all that interesting for me. But that's okay, I didn't buy the game for the single player game anyway. I'm up for some online play even though I'm pretty terrible. If you want to add me, my gamer tag is Guru Rider. Also if I'm online, feel free to invite me to games or something... I'm not exactly all that familiar with arranging games and stuff since I just bought my 360. |
I'll add you to my list next time I'm on then, because I'm not all that great myself. I played all 3 campaigns, and a bit of 2 online but nothing too intense. So as long as you don't mind I'll add ya and maybe we can get some evenly matched games between us ^^

Personally I found the Hornet the easiest way to take them out as you don't need to down the Scarabs, you can just expose the core and then hover low and blast the crap out of it.
By the way, if anyone is up for doing some of the levels on Legendary let me know. I'm typically online between 6pm-midnight (GMT) and need to work through the first 6 missions on Legendary. |
I'm looking for a group to do the same thing. Only hitch is that I work 5pm - 9pm today (thursday) so unless we can do it after 9 tonight otherwise I may just have to wait till friday and tackal it with another group.
|
Where are you at though Slayer (North America I'm guessing)? I'm in England, so I imagine 5pm your time will be sometime towards the end of my night.

Not that I really care about my gamer points on my scorecard, but I had played through the whole solo game and I didn't get any of the points for doing it. The only thing I can think of is that I did it while signed in to LIVE, though I did it alone. Anyone know what's up?
|
or you did it while you WEREN'T signed it
|
Or, to elaborate further, you can earn achievements while not being signed into Live, but not if you're not signed into your profile.
Auto-sign in is your friend, Guru. |
I got the biggest shaft when I first got my 360 cause my profile fucked up and I lost like...tons of achievements..and never bothered to go back. Due to laziness lol
|
There's a Recover Profile option one could use to...well, recover a profile, in case it gets corrupted or deleted in a situation such as that.
|
Yeah, but my problem was with it going like..half way through registration for X-Live then getting shafted :-p
So apparently Halo 3 has broken the 300 million dollar roof in its first week. |

I don't mind playing the game over again really. It's not exactly what you'd call long. |
You get achievements whether you're online or not. And if you were adding friends, yes you can do that only when you're signed in to LIVE. Therefore if your wern't signed on to LIVE and your profile got screwed for a moment, then yes, you would have lost your progress.

So I guess that means they have more freedom to explore new IPs while having the safety net in an agreement to produce things for Microsoft. |
Yeah. Some of the Bungie members said over a year ago in interviews with EGM and what not that if they had their way with the profit money from Halo 3 that they would buy themselves out of MS to allow them to work on different types of games like they did before they were picked up by MS, but I never thought that they would actually do it. When you think of the X-box the first and sometimes only thing that comes to the mind of the general consumer is Master Chief.
It's like Nachoes with no cheese, or hamburger without a bun, you never think it's gonna happen... until it does. Oh well. It's going to be interesting to see if Bungie can still make a non Halo game after ten years. |
Technically they will still probably be making Halo titles for MGS, but this gives them the ability to put out Marathon on the DS if they feel so inclined, or some shit. The autonomy doesn't necessarily mean they're abandoning their largest gauranteed source of income.
