I'm talking about more or less realistically making decisions, not just the on-air character that "delivers" the already made decisions.

Tommyspud Sep 22, 2006 11:27 PM

*Stares at Brock Lesner going to WWE*
COULDN'T BE!!!!
*Stares at Austin as Warden*
Could it?

Originally I was thinking he will be on SD for the *hinted* 6 man elimination chamber on Survivor Series... Now, I'm confused about him..

Kostaki Sep 22, 2006 11:33 PM

Both Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle are going to be doing mixed martial arts (MMA) from now on, so I doubt you'll see either of them in a WWE ring for a long, long time.

Tommyspud Sep 22, 2006 11:34 PM

Yeah, but they did sign Brock Lesnar, for what reason, is what I'm asking? Anyway's I'm done for today..
It was nice discussing with you...
I might show up tomorrow, I got an E-Fed PPV to finish writing....

Kostaki Sep 22, 2006 11:37 PM

They signed him because they had trained him in the OVW territory (as I mentioned earlier) after scouting him as a potential talent.

Sure, I'll be around here for a bit though I'm going to be writing articles soon concerning wrestling that'll likely appear on my myspace page for a while until I can get them a more official home.

mortis Sep 23, 2006 12:19 AM

WHile we differ on opinions concerning the whole Arquette/title situation, we do agree on how OVW/ECW/WWE should be set up.

True, the finger poke of doom, and the CONSTANT VACATING OF THE WORLD TITLE ( actually, I made it a point on that concerning the death of WCW) did tarnish the world title's legacy. Russo held the title more than once? Man, I know he won it from Booker, but I must have been blocking the other times out of my head.

However, having Arquette win it did so as well. I can very well see your point of having the "anything can happen" mentality. However, given the past champions who have held that title, it did hurt the title. IT mad eit less valueable as now, not only could just about any wrestler hold the strap (instead of being exclusive), but even the "general public".

While having the title only defended once a month doesn't help build it's credibility, having the champion drop it every other week doesn't help that much either. I suppose it goes with my mentality of when someone finally beats that long-reigning world champion, who has had countless defenses (see Joe), that the person who beat them will be on the right path to making a big name for themselves. Moreso, if the title rarely changes hand (but IS defended often), then it tends to be valued higher because it has such a list of credible, long-reigning champions. NOw, I will again want to note that they should be DEFENDING champions, as in every week or so, to really build the title up.

And I have no argument about Trips getting handed the title. I felt the same way as you.

Kostaki Sep 23, 2006 12:32 AM

The problem is that defending it only once a month has become the rule instead of the exception. I never said it needed to drop every single week, but at the same time there needs to be the upset victories from time to time that define a classic TV moment. Take Lex Luger winning the WCW World Title from Hollywood Hogan after fighting off the nWo. Sure, he lost it the following week thanks to a fake Sting, but such memorable moments are what keeps people really looking at the product wondering what will happen the next week.

Of course, the stigma that Hogan would always have the belt was only reassured when he regained it like that, which drove more force into whoever finally took it from him (and kept it) but still allowed for a memorable title change or two when it occured.

Many great TV moments occured because of a title change. Regardless of how or why, it happened, and it caused momentum. During Triple H's reign in the WWE he defended it on several occasions on RAW itself, but it became notable after a while that he would NEVER lose it during a normal TV match. A better example would be Undertaker versus Jeff Hardy on a RAW, where they seriously teased Hardy winning the title on several occasions. That was classic to me.

2. Cash
Would people pay to see Jarrett get his butt whipped? Like it or not, they would...
3. Possible Storylines
Joe vs Jarrett for the Title? Just a possibility for a match later.

Also, for another fact, the US Title is also the WCW US Title!

Yeah, but this doesnt make sense to me. If jarrett is hated, not his character, but the himself as vice prez, wouldnt it make more sense to not want to see jarrett, instead, rather see a good match?
Also, the belt isnt even on the line, all we can expect is a beatdown from joe and the crowd, which are prolly a bunch of plants.
As for money, the outcome is not only predictable, but already known. Jarretts still gonna be champ, hes still gonna face sting, and the crowds still gonna hate him. Like I said, its pointless really, other than making joe into a huge face or an icon for TNA.

and mortis, thanks for the info

mortis Sep 23, 2006 02:38 AM

Unless they do something special like have Cornette force the title to be on the line at the last moment...

One I consider a classic and the shocker of the world, was Hogan dropping that leg on Savage, and announcing the birth of the NWO. Then there was those occasions that DDP would win the title right on nitro, including that match he had with sting. I don't remember the outcome of it though, but they both reversed each others signature moves. Then there was Vader and Flair at the Clash of the Champions, I'll never ever forget that match.

Oh yea. Vince knows that someone is going to do something that would make sense. Sense is not Vince. When he passes, or retires which ever comes first, I'm hoping Tripe H takes over, or even Stephanie. Yea I'm thinking they would do things a lot better.

Tommyspud Sep 23, 2006 02:10 PM

You know, Vince seems to do random things....
Anyways, The McMahon family will probably hold the WWE first, so Trips might not get it, even if he is the stepchild.... Probably Steph or Shane...

Of course, this happened at Bash at the Beach 96 and not on regular TV though. :P

Winter Storm Sep 24, 2006 03:07 PM

That is true, but it was a classic so I pointed it out. What DID happen on regular TV was when fake Sting got out of that limo and assaulted Lugar :p. You know how well executed that was. It killed real Sting's rep for a long time. It got silly when I think at War Games, he was in the cage with the fake sting and he splashed him I think twice and Lugar still didn't believe him. Ah yes thanks for the info on 'the powers that be'. The corp. part of WCW was on a wild rollercoaster, I remember Flair was the head, then Hogan, then uhmmm Mr.Perfect?, man it was a lot of people.

Tommyspud Sep 24, 2006 06:18 PM

Too many people that were on the powers that be... lolz... Well, I did my E-Fed PPV, and it's getting RARE results... 4 10's and a 9! (And to think that all of the matches were no DQ, <I'm running ECW>) Honestly, I think I can do a better job than Vince can at making Storylines...

Darsh Sep 24, 2006 09:58 PM

holy fucking shit, Angle is in TNA

Kostaki Sep 24, 2006 10:03 PM

OMFG LOLOLOL

Angle lied to the WWE about going to mixed martial arts and SIGNED WITH TNA backstabbing Vince McMahon.

FUCK YES.

Vince must be REELING from this one.

TCK Sep 24, 2006 10:18 PM

Hardly rewriting the history of the industry though.

Kostaki Sep 24, 2006 10:25 PM

It only takes one move like this to gain the advantage over the competitor. All they need now is a two hour show, and the WWE is in BIG trouble.

TCK Sep 24, 2006 10:27 PM

Two hours might be the move to take a significant advantage with. Kurt Angle for my money isn't, nor could any one wrestler. Not too sure if Angle will cause a flood from WWE to TNA, but we'll find out hopefully.

Darsh Sep 24, 2006 10:27 PM

@ TCK
No, I think this is big, and it might get ugly and fun. Im now curious as to why angle left wwe in the first place.
Angle was probably one of the few guys in wwe thats heavyweight champion material and had the ability of plausibility to beat anyone. This is like a big "Fuck you" to wwe, just as jeff hardy gave a similar "fuck you" to TNA.

second edit - my bad, I thought it was going for a two hours, but its only gonna be once in novermber

Kostaki Sep 24, 2006 10:35 PM

Angle was released from the WWE because he refused to settle down and give less than 100% of his ability even though he's really injured. I imagine the release was warranted because of the WWE's megaheavy work schedule. Yes, let me repeat, the WWE's megaheavy work schedule.

This is where all the motive lies.

In TNA, Angle will not have to work nearly as hard as he did in the WWE, and he can slowly but surely recover himself much the likes of how Shawn Michaels did except Angle is a much much better talent than Michaels is at this point. Not only this, since TNA is mostly PPV heavy, all Angle really has to do is work PPVs while all the TNA created talent remains on Impact and being able to work PPVs. This is a GREAT SETUP for TNA right now.

This is a MAJOR backstab and all around blow to Vince McMahon, who was probably expecting him to come begging back for a job when he healed up.

Being a fan of professional wrestling and not sports entertainment, I am in MEGA MARK OUT MODE right now.

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee lol

CapturedPenguin Sep 24, 2006 10:39 PM

What.

That's all I have to say to this.

I'm actually looking forward to how this shakes things up a notch.

Kostaki Sep 24, 2006 10:41 PM

Oh man, and not only this..

KURT ANGLE VS. SAMOA JOE

Holy shit. I can't wait. I can't fucking wait.

Manny Biggz Sep 24, 2006 10:55 PM

Well, didn't I tell you guys? The best thing about this is that TNA SUPRISED US! JR was talkin all about how he shouldn't go to MMA. There were only a few people that knew, and they signed no disclosure agreements. Jeff Jarrett's comments in fooling people into thinking it was the new timeslot with spike TV was ingenious too! I swear, this might just be the best $30 I ever spent in my life. The last time I felt this excited was when Eddie won the title from Lesnar!

mortis Sep 24, 2006 11:25 PM

So, within a year from main eventing Raw to Smackdown! to ECW to NWA TNA, Angle sure has made his rounds. I suppose ROH is on the horizon as well...

The thing people fail to realize is that one thing Angle has going for him is the fact that he was IN THE MAIN EVENT IN WRESTLEMANIA AS THE WORLD CHAMPION less than SIX months ago. Major momentum there. Now, how it will affect things from now on, I am unsure, but it is pretty amazing.

Guess we won't see that Booker T/ANgle VS whoever it was any more though...
