I only real status effect I had problems with is freeze. Freeze is kinda shit compared to VP1, since you go out of it if you move 1 step, however, I found out the hard way that if all 4 are frozen it's game over.

It especially happend a lot at the forest ruins. There's those vampires that constantly summon vampire bats and before you know it there's like 10 of them hitting you and all have a chance of doing a freeze.

The Plane Is A Tiger Mar 24, 2007 01:44 PM

Confusion is the only status effect that's given me real trouble. It lasts longer than Freeze and the others, and it's annoying being hit with an attack that leaves 3/4 of your party unable to take action. Poison's evil too, but that's kind of a given.

I've been lucky enough to avoid getting wiped out by freeze in regular battles, but Odin did completely wipe me out with paralysis. His first attack was Thunder Storm, which managed to kill Atrasia and paralyze the other three people. Kinda made me wonder if I was even supposed to win that fight.

I actually liked Yggdrasil. The platforming was trickier than in previous dungeons, and made things a lot more interesting than just walking horizontally for awhile. I never could figure out how to grab the two treasure chests that were in side rooms as you fell, though.

Xellos Mar 25, 2007 10:07 AM

You forgot the awesome song you hear in Yggdrasil.

The only real bad things about Yggdrasil is that rare mob that only respawns if you exit and re-enter, and the fact that if you screw up you could fall down a LONG way and have to go back up all over again.

Cyrus Mar 25, 2007 10:46 AM

Ha, just beat Odin, and found out he´s a real push-over. I expected a scripted battle with a severe beating, but I nearly killed him the first time before Lezard joined in. Now I´ll have to find that damn ring an snatch one or two chests I missed the way up.

I am a late bloomer in this game. Finally finally after 5 freaking attempts to get past Surt's Volcano Cavern(the boss was kicking my ass) I got to Chateau Obsession and got the fricking Experience Pig Law. My party btw is Alicia, Celes, Phyress, and Leone.

Spoiler:
Hrist(Leone) confuses me. She "shows" concern for Silmeria and yet at the same time she's really pissed with her. I like how Lezard is on to her, he knows as well as Silmeria that she's well Hrist lol.

It would be a lot more interesting if thier eyes were'nt so..obvious. Then when the truth comes it'd be that much more exciting.

The Plane Is A Tiger Apr 16, 2007 02:14 AM

Leone:
I think it was more that before Hrist only thought of Silmeria as a traitor who deserved to be punished in the name of the Gods. She was never really pissed at her. After being forced to spend some time pretending to be friends with Alicia/Silmeria she found it difficult not to be more sympathetic to their position.

Xellos Apr 16, 2007 08:48 AM

Spoiler:
I'm not quite sure if if she joins them because she was sympathetic for Alicia, or if it was because she finally had doubts about Odin and Freya. Perhaps it was a bit of both.

I personally really liked her in VP2. She was definately one of my favorite characters. I didn't end up using her in my main group, mainly because she came in so late, but next time I'll definately will.

ctu Apr 16, 2007 08:59 AM

I rented the game a few days ago and I am going to try to beat it before I have to return it. From what I seen it is a fun game. I would have to say this looks like it would be a good game to do a speed run of :)

Winter Storm Apr 16, 2007 01:26 PM

Even with the Experience Pig Law, this game is still a crazy grind ~_~ and Xellos I feel it is a little bit of both. Alicia didn't ask to have a soul transmigrated into her. In a way it is unfortunate that she has to deal with the problems brought onto her by Silmeria's own misfortune.

As for Hrist, I read up on her in wiki. I don't know who is more nastier now. Her or
Spoiler:
Lezard
lol.

The Plane Is A Tiger Apr 16, 2007 01:30 PM

I'm pretty sure
Spoiler:
Lezard
wins that title. Especially after hearing about some of VP1's events.

Xellos Apr 16, 2007 06:18 PM

Nobody holds a candle to him. If only they had used the same voice actor from VP1, then I could have appreciated him so much more in VP2. I HATE the guy that does his voice in VP2.

The Plane Is A Tiger Apr 16, 2007 06:48 PM

Really? I never heard his voice in VP1 (same guy who voiced Meowth, haha), but I liked the VP2 guy a lot. He really captured the arrogant insanity.

Winter Storm Apr 18, 2007 02:57 PM

Ok I will not be wasting my time with this game for quite awhile. The horrid leveling up is getting annoying. I got done with Alicia and Celes, and trying to level up another is just too much. Then I still have Lezard, Leone and Arngrim to get to 45. D: D: D: I don't agree with this sickning trend of grinds being a major part of a game.

The Plane Is A Tiger Apr 18, 2007 09:02 PM

I just settled for 35, and it didn't really require any extra levelling. Honestly that's all you need if you don't have the patience. Why put down the game just because you can't get a few unnecessary weapons?

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Apr 18, 2007 10:14 PM

You know, with the proper set-up, you can easily finish that grinding in less than an hour. It's ridiculously easy to do if you solo with Arngrim and Dylan, and not too bad when you duo with Lezard and Leone.

Cause I like being way too powerful and plowing through the game and feeling like a God D:.

Black Mage Apr 19, 2007 07:16 AM

Or you can always take Rufus and milk the Hydra for everything it has.

I'd also like to point out that grinding to get bonus, game-breaking weapons really can't be considered a "major part of the game." Because, you know, it's optional.

Xellos Apr 19, 2007 02:29 PM

Nah I found Palace Of The Venerated Dragon for more easier, and more entertaining. If you know what you are doing it really wont take that long.

I believe the crabs have the highest potential exp, because they are so easy to break, and because they are so huge you'll see the crystals flying all over the place, especially if you use Rufus. The Golems are good as well.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Apr 19, 2007 02:41 PM

I typically fight the golems in one of the first areas. The flat, small screen with three easily accessible enemies generally make it faster for me than crabs or the Zombie Dragon.

Metal Sphere Jul 27, 2007 07:12 PM

Damn, looks like my post is the first in a while. I picked this up recently and I'm having a bit of trouble. How exactly do the shops work? I've got the required materials for items and weapons, but their names are greyed out.

On top of that when I went to check FAQs for what to do, I found out apparently I'm playing the game all wrong:

- Releasing einherjar, especially the wrong ones
- Using stat boosting items on characters I'm not supposed to use them on
- Missed several things already

Should I just restart now? I'm in the third chapter at the moment, but reading up to where I am, I'm getting the impression that I won't get the most out of the game if I continue.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Jul 27, 2007 07:26 PM

...How far into the third chapter? A lot of those problems won't ruin the game (if you choose to get the secret weapons, you'll still beat the shit out of everything up to the final boss), but you might run into some trouble if you want to milk Seraphic Gate for everything it has.

Releasing Einherjar (no matter who they are) isn't a big deal, but how you release them is crucial. The items they leave behind are better depending on what they're released with. Best to wait until the end of the game when you can send them off with the best purchasable equipment.

See, I don't even know what Seraphic Gate even is, though it sounds like bonus content. And it seems like I'm almost done with chapter 3, according to this guide.

So, release einherjar only at the end of the game when I've got the best equipment? And how do I get greyed out anything to become available, so when I restart I know what's going on. Required item amounts all in yellow but item is still grey is something that's been bugging me.

Also, the DO NOT GIVE STAT BOOSTING ITEMS TO SO AND SO shit really nailed me. Luckily the guide I'm referring to doesn't have spoilers, but apparently giving it to those folks is a bad idea for some reason (something I've already done several times for each).

Basically, should I just buy a strategy guide?

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Jul 27, 2007 08:29 PM

Seraphic Gate is the bonus dungeon. Very large, and potentially very difficult (definitely difficult on subsequent runs).

And what's greyed out? Items a shop can synthesize? That means you haven't sold the shop the materials needed for the synthesis. Sell them, then have the item synthesized. Weird requirement, I know.

If you release someone, just hold onto the stat up items until you know who's in your party for good. A lot of times I just use them on the secret characters you get in Seraphic Gate, anyway.

Hmm, a bunch of stuff to consider here. I'll definitely be holding onto all the einherjar I come across now, since I don't trust myself enough to avoid using the stat boosters before the right time comes. On top of that, you mentioned that the better the equipment they have on, the better the item gained. Seems like an easy choice.

The item thing is weird alright, though I figured it'd be something simple.

Damn, how do I know which ones make good party members? You don't have to answer this one if you run the risk of spoiling stuff.

Forsety Jul 27, 2007 10:56 PM

It's really hard to answer that without any form of spoilers at all. All I can say really is the only characters that are 100% safe to use stat boosting items on are Alicia and Rufus. Any other names would be spoilers. (end game characters, etc)
