Ahahaha...owned. Solider, reserve a copy for me too, while you're at it.

Motsy Sep 22, 2006 01:51 PM

Haha, milk it Square.

Wait this one out till they announce the Definitive Edition along with the remake on 360, SOLDIER.

Soldier Sep 22, 2006 01:54 PM

I'm not really that surprised. Companies double dip and even triple dip their movies all the time. I'm not sure why I'm particularly irritated that Square is doing it with their movie.

Freelance Sep 22, 2006 02:35 PM

I'd be interested in getting it if I was getting a blu-ray player anytime soon, which I'm not : /

I'd like to see a link to this news though.

TGS 2006: Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children Complete Announced
Cloud goes Blu

by Andrew Alfonso

September 22, 2006 - If you read our report on the Square-Enix booth, then you already know this, but the company has announced a new version of Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children with the subtitle 'Complete', and it came complete with a new trailer to show off some of the changes in the movie. This version of Advent Children will be on Sony's Blu-Ray media, and as the title suggests, it's going to be somewhat of a director's cut. Not only will the resolution be much higher than the DVD version, but Square Enix will be adding scenes and making changes to existing scenes. One new scene shown during the presentation was Sephiroth impaling Cloud and hoisting him over his head while his Masamune was still embedded inside of him, much like in Final Fantasy 7 for the PSOne.

No word on a solid release date yet but the trailer did indicate a Japanese release sometime in 2007. We'll have more information as it becomes available.
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/734/734467p1.html

Maybe that scene will be a flash back.

Mmm, hopefully these new scenes aren't just little 30 second add-ons. Maybe they're adding some of the stuff that were in the earlier trailers (though, doubtful, as most of the scenes in earlier trailers were reworked for the movie).

They better include the commentary with this release, they got no excuse not to.

Sarag Sep 22, 2006 09:38 PM

Yeah, director's cuts and special editions for movies come out all the time. No one is shocked by this. Hope they fix some stuff though, like add an actual plot between the fight scenes or somethin'.

Price of admission, why lie.

Vash Sep 22, 2006 11:04 PM

What's Blu Ray? Isn't it the disc reader used in the PS3?

Inhert Sep 22, 2006 11:36 PM

oh god where were you for the past year >.< blu-ray is one of the 2 "medium" (hd-dvd is the other one) that will compete to take place of the dvd, like the dvd became the new medium from the VHS, but the change will not be as much as the change to VHS->DVD...so you'll see soon some blu-ray and hd-dvd player like dvd player (for movie or other things)

and sony is one of the few compagnie that "made" the blu-ray disk, and Sony use that technology in the PS3, so the ps3 will be a gaming console and a blu-ray player like the ps2 is a gaming console and a dvd player...

Prime Blue Sep 30, 2006 10:05 AM

"According to Nomura there'll be new scenes in comparison to the PSP-/UMD-version. The subtitle 'Complete' is an indicator to the higher resolution which is possible due to Blu-ray.

The movie will only be in English, according to Nomura more than one language wouldn't fit on the disc."

Simply *lol*.

Freelance Sep 30, 2006 10:23 AM

Yok yok, I question the source of that statement.

Assuming that's even true, however, I'd be disappointed 'cause the Japanese voices were great, particularly Kadaj's. : /

Prime Blue Sep 30, 2006 11:09 AM

GameFront has always been a very reliable source when it comes to news and interviews since they don't report every mumbo-jumbo-rumour that comes up now and then.
They've got pictures, too. Although I'm not sure if they "belong" to GF.

Freelance Sep 30, 2006 11:50 AM

Aren't Blu-Rays able to hold a lot more than a DVD? I don't see how they can't add another language onto it. Just how many added scenes are there anyway?

Yeah, single-layer Blu-rays have 27 GB and double-layered have 54 GB of data space. The increased resolution of the movie will take up most of the space but I don't see why they can't add just another audio stream either. It's just audio.

Hmm... Don't expect any more than 5 new scenes (maybe they'll use some of the cut material from the Special Edition DVD). This is of course speculation on my part. :)

Soldier Sep 30, 2006 01:55 PM

Which is the reason why I'm leary over this; when it comes to re-releases, SE either adds a minimal amount of content, or stuffs the living hell out of it (KH2). I won't consider a Blu Ray version of AC justified unless there's at least an extra 30 minutes added, and they would have to be story-related bits (the fights are long enough; they're spectacular, but they don't need to be longer).

I guess they don't, because I can't see them.

Hantei Oct 1, 2006 04:25 AM

English only for the movie, on a Blu-ray? Haha, I'm guessing they plan to milk this once again, with a much later release that'll include both dub tracks and perhaps a new making of featurette.

Also, looks like the Kotobukiya's Mechanical Arts is set to be release on December 12th in Japan. These things are pricey, they're listed at 3465 yen each, almost as much as the FF7AC Play Arts line. I'm expecting some real quality for these vehicles (like Fenrir's sword conpartment).

Ohh, nice, looks like we'll them use the guns on Kadaj's bike. And Sephiroth hoisting Cloud up, looks pretty sweet. Alas, it looks like it just all extended little sequences. The guns will be during the bike chase to Midgar, and Sephiroth hoisting Cloud looks like it'll happen just after he stabs him.

FYI but the Creatures line is now out in Japan. Seems Kefka is the one everyone's after. :)

Ohh, just found that now. Not sure how I missed that bit of info. I might look into getting a Bahamut, if the price is right (heh, that shop priced em at 2415 yen each). They all look pretty cool though.

For once, we don't exactly know the gravitational constant in the FF VII world. And even if we assume it would be equal to our Earth, a very strong person like Sephiroth shouldn't have a problem holding some estimated 400 pounds on a 100 inch stick.

Soldier Oct 2, 2006 03:56 PM

If he can slice up entire buildings in half, he's certainly strong enough to keep Cloud's skinny ass in the air. The real disbelief is how Cloud's shoulder can support the blade from tearing right through his skin.

The changes better be more significant than cosmetic (dirt on Loz's shoulder, oh wow), or this is just purely a quick-cash release.

Sarag Oct 2, 2006 09:20 PM

The planet is pretty small. I mean, just sayin'.

Vash Oct 2, 2006 10:36 PM

Keep in mind, this is Final FANTASY. Nothing in any of these games/movies is supposed to be realistic (if they were anything normal, like earth normal, it wouldn't be as "fantastic" now would it?). The fight scenes in AC attest to that. I don't think SE wants you to focus on the specifics of gravitational pull and the like, keeping it magical and unreal is what the series is all about, unless you haven't picked that up by now :p

fiercedeity Oct 10, 2006 07:43 PM

Trying to pick apart the fact that the gravity and such things in FANTASY based things is silly in my opinion. They are fantastic to watch because in real life we couldnt bounce around like they do in the final battle. We cant jump into the sub hemisphere to kill a giant dragon, and we cant jump over people on upside down motorcycles. But if we could...
