I can see this working for Sonic. Normal attacks being a Punch - Punch - Kick type combo, his Up + B attack could be his homing charge attack, his Down + B could be his Super Sonic transformation that could last for a certain amount of time. Not too sure what his other attacks could be...

There's also the 3 shield attacks he had in Sonic 3.

This is why I don't think Sonic would be very good, and I don't mean to offend by the way, sorry if it came off that way. Anyways, so far the only attacks we have thought of are spinning/ other methods of smashing into things, and kicking. That's what Sonic's good at, but it would be pretty lame in a game like Smash. I guess they could throw him in (they being the mighty powers who make this descision) but he would probably just be unwieldly and chaotic, and suicidal. I forsee bad things for Sonic if he ventures into Smash.

Well then, if nothing else it would be funny.
I do agree though. It would be very difficult to translate his speed to SSB. The fastest character currently is Falco, and we don't need to make THAT any faster. Also, he would be a lemming most of the time, constantly killing himself trying to speed and bash.
Hmm. We'll see.

scotty May 25, 2006 12:57 AM

Maybe he could just be a chaotic spining miniboss type character that could be playable in multiplayer by spending $60 on an action replay!

Nintendo 4 life May 25, 2006 12:58 AM

How about Oni Link he would would be a geat addition to the game. He has stacks of moves they can put in, he also has all the assists needed.:)

I don't know if this has been posted, but:

The director says that some SSBM characters will definitely be cut. I say, as long as he goes after the worthless clones, more power to him.

Yeah.....I'm somewhat disappointed with that decision. While I don't use all those characters anyway, I still would recommend them against removing old characters because I'm sure at least a few people used them.

shadowlink56 May 25, 2006 04:31 PM

He also mentioned that he'll only add about 1-2 characters, maybe. That's sad news. At least he'll adapt some of the clones into their own style. I bet Ganondorf's first.

J-Man May 25, 2006 06:21 PM

What the game ends up as isn't nesessarily (sp?) set in stone either. They did mention something about online upadtes at E3 I believe. Theres always time to add new characters, if indeed you can update games online.

I read the whole topic on Smashboards (Please... don't link there ever again) and here is what SamuraiPanda got out of the same message from Sakurai:

Sakurai said it as a question, so it could still change. But at least we have a ballpark of how many non-Nintendo chars will be added.

Breath easy.

Since I am a big fan of the Zelda series I would love to see more characters from Hyrule make an appearance in the game. How about a Goron, a Zora, or a Deku. Any one of the Sages would be a good as well. Haven't given much thought as to the moves each would have, but it would be interesting if any of them made the cut. Not holding my breath, however.

*looks at Captain Falcon*

*points and laughs*

Movepool arguments and size are irrelevant to SSB. Bowser and CF are prime examples.

Out of control speed, I see your point (especially with comps being godly with that type of thing), but lame moves? Come on, you gotta do better than that. Sonic's style of fighting won't be any more out of place than Pika's attacks.

I've tried to avoid their site as much as possible, but occasionally they have people there that pop on to give good info. Luckily I wasn't the one that linked!
Oh well.

Zippy May 26, 2006 03:34 AM

No one's mentioned super powers yet(either that or i haven't read all the pages yet-which i'm not going to do)

If they're going to put sonic in his super move should be a super sonic based attack

shadowlink56 May 26, 2006 03:57 AM

It's also been hypothesized that there will be team attacks, and when thinking about the amount of combinations with all of the old and now new characters, that's a shit-ton of moves to devise and create!
Anybody up on their counting principles? Permutations and combinations? Anyone?

Hmm. We'll see.

I think he only runs fast when you dash, otherwise when he's walking he only moves slightly faster than most characters. Also, as for his moves, the super peel-out will definitely be in there, but as for his other moves... well, they'll just make stuff up to suit the game. How do you think they came up with moves for the other characters? Spinning Kong, Super Jump Punch, Fire Fox? Obviously they'll make some up for him in the same way...

Uh... doesn't it already appear in SSBM's Termina stage?

Hell no, I'd hate this. This isn't that lame Teen Titans crap. It should remain as every man for himself.

Not as a playable character.

PsychoJosh May 27, 2006 08:52 PM

Well, I suppose that could work if you made it into a silly happy face drawing... and made it only as big as Giga Bowser.

Still I don't like the idea of playing as a celestial body.

Acro-nym May 28, 2006 07:40 PM

I said a while ago they should replace Pichu with a better Pokémon. I've determined that this should be Ditto. Think about. A bouncing blob that, when he touches an opponent, he becomes a duplicate of that character. By my logic, he could be able to do this multiple times in one fight (I mean without dying first). Think of the four-player magic!

Inhert May 28, 2006 07:55 PM

we almost already have that and his name is kirby (note that I said almost)

Lizardcommando May 28, 2006 07:56 PM

Ehh, to me, if Ditto was to be included in this game, it would most likely function like one of those characters that would mimic a random characters' move, something like Charade from Soul Caliber 2. Except with Ditto, it would have the same model as that character, except he'd still have that Ditto face. :)

Meh, seems pretty useless to have Ditto.

SuperSonic May 28, 2006 08:52 PM

If they put another Pokemon in there, I'd be willing to bet on Meowth.

Not a regular one, the one from Team Rocket that talks.

Er, Fox is clearly faster than Falco in running speed. It's just sometimes more difficult to control Falco due to the height of his jumps.

The_Griffin May 28, 2006 09:30 PM

About Ditto:

What I think would be really awesome is if, when he gets hit, he becomes that character with a different moveset. He'd have his own movelist, granted, but he'd copy the movelist of the last character he was hit by, minus one (like the down+b) to revert to himself. I think that'd actually be pretty cool. <3

I believe Falco was supposed to be Falcon, as in Cpt. Falcon in the post you quoted.
