Good, good. Gentlemen, I hope to see you on tonight, then. Send me a message if you see me playing Gyromancer or something.

We didn't really get anything going last week, though I'll admit I was somewhat distracted by Assassin's Creed II so partly my bad, but is anyone down for getting some L4D2 action going this week, or indeed later today?
I might be on playing other things, but hit me up with a message as I'll be down for jumping over to some zombie shootan times. |
A few people were on last night, but if anyone's going to be around today (well, this afternoon/evening for US folks I guess) then drop me a message as I'd be down for doing more Versus/Scavenge, or even just playing some campaign stuff.
|
Tonight, I asked Sonne if he was down to play some campaign shit and he agreed. I had planned to go through one chapter and, well, 4 hours later we had plowed through all five chapters and gotten us a ton of achievements. We gotta set up a whole 4-on-4 skullfuck-a-zombie fest one of these days so he can join. Sure he says he sucks (we'll put him on Mo0's team just in case) but that shit would be fun nonetheless.
|
Sorry you couldn't join in with us last night Ence, but we had a full 4 and were in the middle of a game (until Xbox Live decided to explode that was). But yeah, I'm down for more L4D2 whenever, just hit me up when I'm online.
|
Sounds awesome.
I hate to speculate and jizz my shorts but the mentions of all the survivors together has me thinking OH GOD WHAT IF 8 ON 8. Because that'd be neat. |
What Skills said. 8 on 8 with some lengthier maps would be insane. Then again, with the way L4D2's matchmaking is it would also take a couple of hours just to get enough people together.
The race to be not-Rochelle becomes more extreme. |
I do not support this hate for Depeche Mode.
|
The first thing that comes to my mind is the scene from Shaun of the Dead where Shaun's survivor team meets up and passes by with his friend's survivor team, with each character filling the same role nodding to each other. Hopefully Valve will give us more than that.
|
Fantastic news indeed. Really pleased it won't be just "you can select the old survivors in versus if u want lolol".
But if they pull a zombie Louis, I will nerdrage. |

::L4D3 announced next week::

Just got this for PC. Really digigng it so far. Realism is probably the best new addition as far as I'm concerned. Also, I think I have some sort of fetish going on with the scar.
|
Gettin kinda fed up with people who go into co-op modes and run from safe room to safe room without regard for survivors.* Wish there was a way to penalize douchebags without making other people sit out. It would be awesome if someone that did that just got put in their own instance of the game where they have 0 survivors so the rest of us could actually play something.
*Also known as "I ran past the tank while he was throwing a rock/molesting other guys. Clearly I got mad game." |
Skexis don't even get me started on that crap, it's a good tatic for vs mode, that is providing the rest of the team is also doing it -_- I've actually seen people on youtube do 'speed runs' where they pretty much do exactly what you described, the point of the game... they missed it.
|
I used to do speed runs in the original L4D. It was a good tactic on certain levels where there weren't a whole ton of wide open areas and it was easy to stay grouped together. Generally everyone on the team would take a shotgun and just try to haul ass. The fourth stage of Dead Air was perfect for it. The only thing that could really screw you over was a good tank holding your team up after you started the van event.
|
Considering the new scoring mechanic and how shitty it is, it basically encourages this sort of behaviour.
I'm not saying I prefer it, but if the group's gonna wipe at a tank or something, the difference can be made if one guy hauls ass and gets a few extra distance points. It was far less effective when health mattered, but for some reason the more complex and interesting scoring mechanic was dumped for a less entertaining and more bullshit prone one. This is why I stick to scavenge mostly. |
When our crew plays, we usually just all haul ass and book it regardless of anything else (usually someone will say "I'm scared, FUCK THIS"), but to be honest that's usually to give the other team a handicap more than anything, and even then they usually fail to stop us. I've had my three teammates be killed 5 seconds out of the safe room, but then made it to the end of the level completely be myself, with the entire enemy team chasing me.
Agreed that the scoring mechanic basically encourages this, but I still prefer the scoring over the first game. In the first one either you all made it, or your score was SHIT. I do think there's a better balance they could probably strike between the two, but if I have to choose between the two I'll definitely take the scoring in 2. |
The problem is I'm not even playing versus, I'm just playing regular campaign or realism, and these people have it in their heads that the most fun you can have playing this game is to avoid the game itself.
And the whole time I'm just sitting there, like....wow, really? |

Apparently everything gets louder the more it gets oversimplified.
There's certain circumstances (tank, neverending horde, etc) where one survivor is better than none at all. But these people are flat-out running without regard to anything around them. If a smoker snags them or they run face-first into a witch, and there's nobody around to help them, it's just "aw, man, cheap-ass game." But if they make it to the saferoom against all odds, then it's "jeez, I got mad game, yo." It's taking the structure of the game and making it approach randomness. So have fun playing this and Modern Warfare 2, if that's your thing. |
Personally, I've seen very little evidence of the qualms being brought up in the past few posts, but then again, I avoid playing with pubbers most of the time.
Usually when I play, it's with close friend or a group of regulars that all have a firm grasp on the game itself. My advice to anyone that is having problems with the element of "randomness" in the game is to quit playing with random people. When you find someone that is good at the game and has a similar play style to your own, add them as a friend and try to play with them as much as possible. Chances are you'll end up making friends with a bunch of other people who are also rather good and play it similarly to yourself. But really, comparing Left 4 Dead 2 and Modern Warfare 2 is pretty ridiculous. |

Only as much as the nade spam and exploits makes it less fun for people who are playing the game. And then we get into the whole "if they hadn't wanted players to do it it wouldn't be in the game" which is just...I don't even know where to begin with that. |
