Well, if I take it over I have absolutely no motivation to keep him alive.

If an existing player takes it over they're obviously going to favor their own character over the rented one and it's only a matter of time before Soggy bravely sacrifices himself for the good of his friends.

Either way Soggy's boned, so it seems better for a third (fourth?) party to pick him up for the duration. I kind of expected Animechanic to be all over this, but whoever's willing. =/

Animechanic Aug 15, 2008 02:41 PM

Yeah, I can play him. I've just been keeping myself out of this thread unless invited, as I am only tolerable in small doses.

I'll snag a copy of his sheet and make sure I am familiar with his skills. I have played a 4th edition warlord, but I think mine was the other build.

FatsDomino Aug 15, 2008 03:23 PM

I pass the torch to the mechanic.

Animechanic Aug 15, 2008 06:33 PM

I suppose knk should get the final say, assuming he's not already gone. I promise I'll do my best to keep him alive though. I would feel extremely guilty if 'ol Soggy died on my watch.

And no stabbing Soggy in the back, Zeph. You promised to try to kill my character if and when I get in the game.

knkwzrd Aug 15, 2008 07:31 PM

You seem like you know what's happening. Go for it, Animechanic.

Zephyrin Aug 16, 2008 09:13 AM

How'd Shin manage two standard actions?

The unmovable stubborn Aug 16, 2008 09:18 AM

Well, that's an excellent question, which I can explain by—

Um, but he already used his action point, so—

uhhhh

errrrrr

god dammit people

Zergrinch Aug 16, 2008 09:25 AM

Pang got fooled, Pang got fooled...

I guess Homer sometimes nods!

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Aug 16, 2008 09:53 AM

Sorry, didn't realise healing was a standard action, my bad. First time I've been injured so far...

The unmovable stubborn Aug 18, 2008 08:42 PM

I don't want to tell anybody what to do, but I have noticed that knk (and Chanic) have been pretty much using Viper's Strike exclusively. The reason for this is probably that Motsognir's other at-will, (Wolf Pack Tactics) is kind of indirect:

Special: Before you attack, you let one ally adjacent to either
you or the target shift 1 square as a free action.

This is mostly to help set up flanking situations.

Obviously, around an actual table you'd just ask "can I move you" and that would be that. In this situation it's obviously not practical. Do you guys just want to give open consent to be moved, or should I just let knk pick a new at-will, or what?

I can't imagine it's much fun being stuck with only one practical option every turn.

No. Hard Pass. Aug 18, 2008 08:50 PM

I got no problems being moved into a flanking position. No homo.

Animechanic Aug 18, 2008 09:00 PM

Considering Soggy's intelligence score, he would probably get a lot of use out of Commander's strike. Even if it substituting someone else's attack for your own, the bonus would prove useful, and Soggy seems pretty good at ending up out of reach of targets.

My two cents. We'll have to see what everyone else thinks.

Zephyrin Aug 18, 2008 10:18 PM

Flanking is a staple to my combat strategy. I just rarely get to set it up myself due to the danger of opportunity attacks.

I have no problem with it so long as I have at least 10 hp. I don't want to...you know, die. If I have less HP, lay hands on me first. YES HOMO.

Animechanic Aug 19, 2008 01:10 AM

Ow. Spent my last inspiring word on Bob and now I desperately need some HP.

FatsDomino Aug 19, 2008 07:38 PM

Where's Brady? =I

No. Hard Pass. Aug 19, 2008 07:43 PM

Just like that long weekend in Mexico, swinging hammer and dodging crabs.

I think he's in the hallway, just on the other side of south door. Hard to tell since he hasn't appeared on a map in two pages, but he was hitting the crab when it was just inside the door.

Zephyrin Aug 20, 2008 10:37 AM

So I'm attempting to intimidate the guard into surrendering. How's this work? What are the options?

I put two actions in my post since I'm obviously not in the know about trying to take a prisoner.

The unmovable stubborn Aug 20, 2008 01:48 PM

Well, you can't attempt to force a surrender until the enemy is bloodied, anyway, but it's basically a roll vs the enemy's Will defense, with your Intimidation bonus added (+6 in your case):

Intimidate: Standard action in combat or part of a
skill challenge.
✦ Opposed Check: Intimidate vs. Will (see the table for modifiers to your target’s defense). If you can’t speak a language your target understands, you take a –5 penalty to your check. If you attempt to intimidate multiple enemies at once, make a separate Intimidate check against each enemy’s Will defense. Each target must be able to see and hear you.
✦ Success: You force a bloodied target to surrender, get a target to reveal secrets against its will, or cow a target into taking some other action.
✦ Failure: If you attempted to intimidate the target during combat, you can’t try again against that target during this encounter.
✦ Target Becomes Hostile: Using Intimidate usually makes a target hostile toward you, even if you don’t succeed on the check.

As far as taking prisoners goes, you can also declare your intent to knock out an enemy rather than kill it when it's reduced to 0 HP. Of course, this only works if you're the one that makes the finishing blow.

Zephyrin Aug 20, 2008 02:02 PM

Oh...

Fuck it then, stab him in the face! =D

Hopefully somebody else is wise enough to not kill him, anyhow.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Aug 21, 2008 05:03 AM

How easy is it to train wild animals? I mean, could we keep the crab instead of the guard?

Bradylama Aug 21, 2008 08:45 AM

I'm killin that crab.

FatsDomino Aug 21, 2008 09:14 AM

Keep the guard as pet.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Aug 21, 2008 09:39 AM

Well we need some kind of a pet I think. The crab will make for some good eating but next wild monsters we meet I vote we try to tame one.

Bradylama Aug 21, 2008 10:44 AM

Without a Ranger we'd probably just lose minor appendages.
