OMG, Cock. Extra points for the Stewart pic to go with the song...that's just classic.

But it's sad: the Gray Men so closely resemble the Stonecutters that when I looked at the original lyrics, it took all of ten seconds to rewrite the first half by simply changing the nouns. The second took five minutes of actual thought, which brought up another AC5 question as a frickin' byproduct (why did Belka need another 15 years to "develop" the V2 we've just seen in ACZ?). Of course, the whole thing's almost a no-brainer if you've read the last fifty posts or so...it's pretty much a summation of everything we've concluded about the plot to date.

I like how all my favorite things have some sort of secret group controling everything:

Ace Combat: Grey Men
Metal Gear: The Patriots
24: The Patriots

Yeah I know this thread has not been replied to in awile. But I just wanted to comment on something.

I was replaying through AC Zero and when they said chemical laser I remembered something. The United States has been experimenting with chemical lasers for awile, right? I think I even saw a prototype being shown off on some TV documentary. It was able to burn a hole bigger than your head in a piece of metal within seconds.

The beam was huge too. The only problem is they needed a gigantic room full of generators to power it and lots of nasty stuff to get a few seconds of it. The soldiers being interviewed also didnt want to say much about it either..

Could we someday have something along the lines of Excalibur? And isnt there a real tactical laser used by the US military? Only its on some huge ass plane used to shoot down missiles..

tajisdurmin Sep 1, 2006 06:53 PM

Frickin' lasers...

There's been a lot of work with lasers over the last few decades, Shonos; the aircraft-mounted one you're talking about is the ABL or Airborne Laser, carried aboard a 747 with an effective range of 300km against theater ballistic missiles like SCUDs and about half that against ICBMs because their skin's harder to burn through. From what I've heard though, power isn't the problem so much as accuracy...you have to hold the beam on a single spot to detonate the fuel or cook something vital, otherwise you just end up with a warm strip of missile fuselage.

Anyhow, I wish we had some AC6 data to speculate on, but all the news I'm hearing about Namco Bandai shooters involves Gundam games like Crossfire. Not that I really mind, since Encounters in Space turned out to be a damn fine title, but even I have to admit that yet another slog through the One Year War is lower on my list of priorities than the fate of the Gray Men.

Is that Ace Combat or what? I hope they include a laser for the F-35 in AC6.

Reviving this thread for Ace Combat ERA Mark 2 justice.

Honestly now, who of you is going to replay an Ace Combat game because of this? Who is going to finally start venturing into the world of Ace Combat?

I just fired up my PS2 to make yet another run through Ace Combat Zero, hopefully to be finished upon Ace Combat X release ...

Karasu Oct 15, 2006 09:03 PM

I've already begun re-playing Ace Combat 4 and Ace Combat Zero. It's really amazing how far the series has come in terms of story, drama, and graphics.

Taco Oct 16, 2006 12:18 PM

I'm giving Ace Combat 5 another shot. I deleted my old file before I beat the game.

I'm not looking foreward to that "Synchronized Attack" mission though. ._. That mission still gives me nightmares.

4 Horsemen... Ugh, definitely the one mission I disliked in that game above all the others.

Karasu Oct 16, 2006 01:34 PM

I liked the music to that stage. The one thing that irk'ed me about the stage was the wingmen were retarded. They wouldn't follow orders and bomb the shit out of the place.

tajisdurmin Oct 24, 2006 01:48 PM

I haven't been playing that much, honestly: sat down for a four-hour marathon with AC5 a few months ago, replaying The Unsung War in Free Mission to buy a fourth FALKEN, but haven't played since. My estimation of ACZ's soundtrack has improved for having it on my playlist all summer, though: it still doesn't have the same number of truly great tracks as AC5 or even AC04, but The Inferno's rapidly growing on me...and I still love the section of Excalibur at 2:50 that sounds note-for-note like the "OMG, 20 armor and 10 fuel!" cue from Soviet Strike.

Anyhow, some news: this is from Gamespot's review at http://www.gamespot.com/psp/sim/acec...ml?sid=6160375, for those who haven't had a chance to play Ace Combat X. Just...wow.

With every mission you accomplish, you'll earn credits with which you can purchase an ever-growing list of new jets. There are noticeably different handling characteristics for each jet, and it's important to bring the right plane into a mission, as some are better suited for air superiority than for taking on ground targets. Another new feature in Ace Combat X is that you can now purchase upgrade parts to fine-tune certain jets. You can purchase and install different wing parts, weapons systems, armor, cockpit computers, and more, and these parts all tend to have certain drawbacks to offset their advantages. For example, you can install overpowered engines that greatly improve your jet's top speed but also make you more vulnerable to damage. You can add extra armor, but it'll impact your maneuverability, and so on. Whether you choose to spend your hard-earned credits on new jets or on improving some of the jets you already own is up to you. Either way, Ace Combat X does a great job of constantly rewarding you with new options that you can purchase in between missions.

Ok then.

So what do you guys think about this rumour?

This is a cell phone cam pic of the blockbuster database. Could be bogus, could be real. Could be BB just being dumb again.

But it's got a subtitle, which is weird since that seems like something you wouldn't just make up to fill in a database entry.

But for the 360? Is Namco letting AC switch sides or go multiplatform? What could this mean for the multiplayer capabilities, and so forth?

Needless to say, I'm excited.

Slayer X Mar 19, 2007 01:47 PM

AC4 is going to be on PS3 and 360. If Armored Core 4 and Oblivion are any indication however the PS3 will have better effects and what not and as time goes on the gap between the two systems should grow. Also the PS3 has FREE online play, so if you were planning on getting AC4 for the PS3 and you don't already have a 360, I would stick with your initial plan.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Mar 19, 2007 02:08 PM

You're in the wrong thread, I think. This is not about Armored Core, but about Ace Combat. In addition, Armoured Core 4 is running off of a modified version of the Chromehounds engine, which was then ported to the PS3. The PS3 verison of Armoured Core 4 suffers from a fair bit of slowdown, where the 360 does not. There are many instances of AC4 looking better on the 360 as well. The screenshot below should show this. I am unsure of why From Software couldn't optimize it, but that's a discussion for another thread.

http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/7291/4d4gy6fze5.jpg

As for Ace Combat 6, I'm sure the online functionality would remain largely the same, regardless of network. I am hoping for co-op and versus modes though.

What does a system comparison or the price of Live have to do with this, though?

Slayer X Mar 19, 2007 03:02 PM

I was just using Armored Core 4 as a cross console comparison example and trying to say that the differences are never that huge. However I now realize that using Armored Core 4 for a console comparison may have been a little premature especially before even knowing much more then just console AC6 is coming out on. So best to wait and see if anything is shown at E3 I suppose.

Just a little something, if you watch the comparison video on GameTrailers.com you would see that both the PS3 and 360 versions of Armored Core 4 look like shit. The 360 version is too dark where all you see is black at times and the PS3 version is too bright.

Also at the beginning of my post where I put AC4 I actually meant to put AC6 for Ace Combat 6, my mistake and probably where you got that I was talking about something totally different. My mistake.

The system comparison & price of LIVE has to do with the fact that I know that a lot of people here were planning to get a PS3 for AC6, however I just wanted to point out that it may still be better to get the game for the PS3 along with the console instead of getting it for the 360 due to the fact that you also have to pay for LIVE on the 360.

I'd like to second the motion for co-op though, that would be killer ^^

Ramenbetsu Mar 20, 2007 02:12 AM

I don't know if you guys have heard, but appearantly Famitsu has confirmed that AC6 is 360 exclusive. Large scale aerial battles, Xbox Live enabled: Battle Royale, Team Battle, Co-op, Leaderboards, tons of rule settings. This is all going off of Japanese poster at gaf. There was no word of a PS3 version.

Elixir Mar 20, 2007 02:37 AM

Warhammer: Mark of Chaos and Beautiful Katamari were also added to the Blockbuster list.

I did some digging around but I can't find any information (about AC06) aside from those cellphone pictures.

On the plus side, I did find this dashboard picture of Katamari. Worth making a new thread for?

You might recognize the "Katamari Damacy" Kanji top left. This screen looks like free downloadable content.

Update: FOUND SOMETHING LOL

http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/5...0454338pi4.jpg

Update 2: Ok. Word on the street is online mode will feature "battle royal", team game, cooperation and ranking. Also, another picture:

http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/953...3959637sc8.jpg

I think I'll stop hunting down information on this for tonight.

You get what you pay for, though. The PS3 version does not have voice chat support. I'm sure that'll go over well.

Slayer X Mar 20, 2007 07:08 AM

Where did you see that?

Hantei Mar 20, 2007 08:45 AM

Awesome! Now that's what I call next gen visuals! Hmm, I wonder how much longer it'll be before a trailer appears, can't wait to listen to the soundtrack.

Elixir Mar 20, 2007 08:57 AM

I wonder if Namco will learn what anti-aliasing in Ace Combat does.

I don't know, dude. It doesn't look like a real life photo to me, and the planes are quite close together for someone to be taking photography in that view.

Look at the cockpit itself. It just doesn't seem the real deal. Perhaps it's real, but I can't be certain since it's so early in production.
