Mario Galaxy needs the nunchuk. Also, Nintendo consoles have always been party consoles since N64. Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2 were big hits at colleges for a while. Consider the next one which probably have the same effect doesn't always require the nunchuk. You'll need a complete set of wii controllers and nunchuks in order to fully play the game.

Sorry, I don't quite understand this part. Can you rephrase that?

And yes, I see that Wii will most likely follow the party system footsteps that Nintendo has been following. I'm just hoping that the next generation party games don't necessarily require a nunchuck attachment. I wouldn't complain if they did, but it would certainly drive up the cost for me. But more or less, it's just wishful thinking. Also, Did the controller "shell" idea get dropped somewhere along the line? Or will games like Smash Bros. Brawl use the original Gamecube Controllers? It really doesn't bother me since I loved the Gamecube Controller, but just out of curiosity.

FatsDomino Oct 3, 2006 04:22 PM

Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz will be coming out for Wii. I'm saying it's going to be as big a multiplayer hit as the last two games. However, you don't always need the nunchuk in its multiplayer games. Even so to get a full experience or to be able to play all the multiplayer games you need 4 complete wii controller and nunchuk sets.

Also, do you even do any research? You'd know that the classic controller attachment is what many where speculating the shell would be like. Oh, and yes it's been said that Smash Bros. Brawl may use the cube controllers but it might also use the classic controler attachments. Nothing is set in stone yet for that game.

Agreed. It would be much better to have the nunchuck when you don't need it than to not have it when you do need it.

And yes, I do some research, but stuff that hasn't been mentioned in a while, I tend to forget. :ashamed: So this Classic Controller is the "Shell" that was speculated, I see.

What other 4-player events will need to utilize the Nunchuk peripheral (in any game, not just Banana Blitz)?

Gods noooo, you're not implying that fps works better with a regular controller?

I shiver every single time someone types the common delusional lie onto the internet, that fps's on consoles got playable after Halo.
That game was playable only once it was portet to PC.
The controls in Golden Eye sucked too. Best game ever. Controls still sucked.

If the wiimote can't muster fps, the mouse is still the only usable device for this genre.

Oh, all this wasn't aimed at you, Omni, just had to let loose some rant while I was at it =P

Omnislash124 Oct 4, 2006 08:09 PM

Lol, no offense taken, I'm just stating that when you think of First Person Shooters on consoles, you think XBox. I didn't say anything about them being good on a regular controller. I still say that the only thing that was good at FPS games was the computer's keyboard and mouse. We'll see if Wii can change that and become another viable control scheme of FPS games.

*crosses fingers*

Slayer X Oct 4, 2006 08:35 PM

Hopefully they can pull it off. So far Metroid has been the best with it's expert setting controls, too bad it's no longer a launch title. Even at that though, it still has some work that needs to be done.

I'm just glad that somebody FINALLY implimented Mouse & Keyboard capabilities in games and that I'll now be able to play PS3 shooters via K&M... thank the lord. At least until Nintendo or someone else can come up with a better way to play FPSs.

Looks like we're gonna have many more Wiis than expected!

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6159406.html

Quote:

Citing industry "checks," UBS analysts Alex Gauna and Steven Chin claim that Nintendo already made 2 million Wiis by the end of September. They go on to predict that, "at least 7 million and potentially as high as 9 million more units are in the build plan for Q4 06. This production ramp handily exceeds a publicly announced target for 6 million units to ship by year's end."

Besides being music to Nintendo fans' ears, the report should also hearten shareholders of the Broadcom Corporation, which makes the wireless integrated circuits in the next-gen console. Broadcom supplies "one Wi-Fi and two Bluetooth ICs [Integrated Circuits] into each packaged Wii, with the potential to enjoy additional Bluetooth sales from additional controllers." According to UBS estimates, that means the Irvine, California-based company will be selling between 7 to 9 million Wi-Fi ICs and 14 to 18 million Bluetooth ICs this year alone.
That's really something else. 2 million already made with potentially 9 million more? 11 million total Wiis by year's end? CHRIST THAT'S AWESOME!

chaofan Oct 6, 2006 07:36 PM

Ooo looks like we won't be missing out on Wiis should we not pre-order them!

And it looks like Nintendo is getting presence Down Under, where it's been so horrendously shunned by the media during the Cube era. A news spot, a few articles and now part of the Top 10 Aussie Xmas gifts!

Now to get enough money for the Wii.........

Saga Oct 7, 2006 06:33 AM

Top 10 Xmas gifts? Where?

Supposedly the new screens of Call of Duty 3 at IGN are Wii specific. I really don't think they look much better than the last batch IGN put out. They have said Wii specific before and put out GC or PS2 shots so I won't be surprised if they really aren't Wii screens. But if they are, boo to the devs of COD3. It looks like the graphics are sloppy and rushed.

Woo, finally employed. Looks like i may even be able to get ahold of a Wii by Christmas. The latest i'll go without one though, is March '07.

And w00t to the 11 million Wii announcement. Sony's shipping what, half a million at launch?

The Launch titles for me are looking a little scarce. At this point it looks like the only titles i'm hounding after are Excitetrcuk, Zelda TP, Metriod 3 and Red Steel.

Basically, i'm holding out until all the big Nintendo names make their appearence on Wii. Zelda, Metroid, and Mario, and other third party titles that are musts for me i.e. Resident Evil.

Omnislash124 Oct 7, 2006 03:21 PM

Life is good as long as there is Zelda. Alternatively, you could replace that with Excite Truck.

Main reason I'll be getting one is shared among Zelda: TP and Smash Bros. Brawl whenever that comes out (March 07 supposedly)

Quite a pathetic way of avoiding FPS PC games. Yes, just what we need. More brainless first person shooters on next generation consoles, and a keyboard and mouse cluttering up everything.

Unless you have an aztec PC, buying FPS games for PC is a much cheaper and sensible solution.

Exactly. Plus, the fact that they have to conform to the keyboard and mouse standard only shows the flaws in their own controller. I'm glad Nintendo is actually doing something new and fresh, and who knows, it really COULD end up being better than a PC mouse.
Also, the Wii has been spotted in another top-10 list...

Myer Australia is offering $600 worth of vouchers if you pre-order a Wii through them, I'm going to find out more about this later in the week and I'll post up what I find out when I do.

Toys'R'Us have the free game when you put down a $50 deposit.

Either is nice, but if you can use the vouchers anywhere I think I'll be going to Myers and load up on games and controllers.

Slayer X Oct 8, 2006 02:06 AM

Yeah, that Toys R' Us deal is pretty good.

Cheezeman: The playstation controller has been the best controller for three generations, so I don't know how you can say that it's flawed. Everyone knows that K&M is the best ways to play FPS games at the moment. I never dismissed the Wii controller, but to say that it's going to be better then K&M before it's even out is jumping the gun a bit.

Elixir: There's lots of great FPS games on the consoles that you can't even get on the PC. Also you say getting the PC versions of thoes games would be cheaper? Not when you have to buy a whole new PC just to run the damn things for $1,600, and then that will only last you about three years before you'd have to upgrade.

UT2K7 Requirements
Recommended System
CPU: 3-4Ghz
RAM: 1024MB
Graphics: NVIDIA 6800GT/Ultra or 7800GT/GTX SLI

UT2007 Technical features and requirements
* Dual-core CPU: Multi-threading is supported and should provide much better performance
* 64-bit version to be available with better textures
* Renderers: SM3.0, 2.0, possible DX8 renderer
* HDR supported
* Physics: Novodex Physics Engine
* AGEIA PhysX PPU supported.

Elixir Oct 8, 2006 02:21 AM

Please give me a list of the "great" FPS games which you can't get on PC, but are on current generation consoles.

The majority of FPS PC games can be run on common PCs these days. Not everyone wants or needs to play Oblivion/UT2K7.

Three generations? Jumping the gun a bit, no? Also, he did say "it really could be better," not "it really will be better."

And there is this thing called opinion. While I found the PS1 controller was a lot more comfortable than the N64's, I find the PS2 controller pretty uncomfortable compared to the Gamecube's. I tend to use the analog stick a lot more than the D-pad, and the PS2's is not in a good position. Button placement can go either way, it depends on the game.

Like...? Honestly, I can't think of any since Perfect Dark. None that compare well to PC FPS's, anyways.

$1600? Pffft, maybe if you're buying some piece of crap pre-built Dell system. Thanks to rebates, I've never spent more than $200 on an upgrade and I've always been able to run new games quite handily. Not at the absolute highest graphics settings, mind you, but well enough.

It's likely it'll be the same worthless voucher book they gave away with 360 pre-orders. Great offers like 10% off a toaster, or 5% off any new release book which cost more at Myer than any other store anyway.

Oh yeah Wii for most pointless accessories ever. :]
