I don't think you're incorrect. It's just that the Japanese have their own way of pronouncing words.
I never played the English version, but in the Japanese version it was pronounced "Loo Cret-si-a"
But also, Cerberus which in English you would pronounce as "sir' ber us" would be pronounced in Japanese as "Kar be Ross"
And "Chaos" = "Kaows"

The series began with Cloud, and it should end with Cloud. Also as an RPG.

well didn't they announce that they wanted to extend the lenght of the FFVII compilation for another 10 years? which mean Crisis Core will maybe not be the last FFVII compilation game.

I'm just not sure if it was officially announce or just speculation... for me the best way they could close the series is by making a remake + a sequel or just a sequel would be enough for me XD i'm just not sure if after AC and Drige of Cerberus, if there's enough to make a full rpg to finally finish the compilation...

I'm having a feeling that the FF7 series won't end with these games. They're going to keep milking us for money as they are already.
The way I see it, FF7AC was suppose to be a just a short (Advent Pieces.. was it?) The makers saw the possibilities of the franchise, so they "filled in the gaps" in the story. They'll just keep making more games with "so-so" storylines that doesn't help close the FF7 series, and keep fans wanting more until they do.

Square should produce quality over quantity. They should work on their storytelling and game features before releasing it. If they can make the games badass, then fans will be willing to wait.

Soldier Aug 19, 2006 03:49 AM

Square has mentioned before that there is a definite "end" to the series, so I don't think it'll just continue on needlessly.

I find it awesome that you get to see the inside of the Shera. It's a cool ship, and one NPC's dialogue hints that maybe
Spoiler:
it might have come from FFX's timeline. The guy refers to it as "ancient technology" that was uncovered, and it was already established that FFX takes place centuries before FFVII. Imagine the kind of mindfuck if it turned out the Shera was made out of one of the ships in FFX or FFX-2

I'm glad they confirmed (or re-established) that Cait Sith is a robot, and that there are plenty of spares of him. I wonder where he gets his AI from, since he's moving and acting independantly from Reeve.

And regarding "Cait Sith no. 6"

Spoiler:
Just a guess here, but....

no. 1: Died when he offered to stay behind and finish the puzzle in Temple in the Ancients.

no. 2: replaces no. 1 after the puzzle death.

no. 3: joins the group during the final battle. I think he even made a mention of this, but something was likely lost in the translation.

no. 4: the Cait in Advent Children.

no. 5: the one in the beginning of DoC. Dies when Necro makes him vanish.

no. 6: the newest one.

It's a bit annoying how the NPCs alternate between saying "Shinra" and "Sheenra". Also, I wish they could have found a bigger role for Johnny Yong Bosh. I like how he uses his Renten voice for that one dorky guard.

Definte end there is, but for how long? Inhert said above that they will keep it up for 10 years. Can you say decline in original work and quality?

Giving this one a rent, since you folks are beating it blindingly fast.

Well this is directed by Takayoshi Nakazato who directed FFX and FFX-2 so that link could very well be true.

WolfDemon Aug 19, 2006 01:03 PM

Hate to break the topic, but does anyone know where I might be able to get a replacement Cerberus gun for the Play Arts Vincent figure? I broke the damn thing trying to put it in his hand and I'm certainly not spending another $20 on another figure to replace it.

Vash Aug 19, 2006 01:58 PM

Does anyone have any more leads on how to rip the unreleased tracks? In the request forum I posted the Extra Missions and their positions that have the green music capsules, if any one needed that info.

Freddy Krueger Aug 19, 2006 04:00 PM

On the subject of Extra missions they are a lot more fun and challenging then I thought they would be.

Jonathan Ingram Aug 19, 2006 06:06 PM

Did anyone else feel that the double-jump was a completely unnecessary addition? With all of the invisible walls within the game, the lack of a platforming section, and serving no strategic value whatsoever (good luck dodging with it), did we really need it?

Yeah, the double jump is pretty useless. At least it doesn't hinder gameplay. (unless you're trying to use it to get on things that you should be able to jump onto but can't because he couldn't jump that high in the original build)

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Aug 19, 2006 11:45 PM

Or platforms that you were supposed to be able to get onto with one jump, but couldn't for whatever retarded reason. Like the one in Kalm when the snipers show up on the roofs. In the Japanese version, I just gave up in frustration.

Inhert Aug 20, 2006 01:27 AM

well it help a lot in the first fight against Azul to avoid his "wave" attack XD

and the fact that you can fire while jumping help more to avoid and attack enemies more easily, but beside that yeah it's useless...

WolfDemon Aug 22, 2006 12:01 AM

Just beat the game tonight and I have to agree that aside from the story and music, it's not all that great. Vincent does all the fancy moves in cutscenes and turns into a normal platforming character during gameplay, and a lot of the invisible barriers were just stupid for a game in this day and age. And those damn cardkeys... Don't even get me started on that.

Did anyone else find the other weapons to be utterly useless? The two rifles you get are rendered moot when you have the Sniper Scope. I found myself using Cerberus for the majority of the game. One thing I was confused about was
Spoiler:
Weiss appeared to return to the Lifestream when he joined with Nero, yet you fight him again in the last battle. Wtf.

Also, fuck you SE for giving Red XIII all of six seconds of screen time in the ending and not a single line.

randomwab Aug 22, 2006 06:59 AM

Well...

Spoiler:
The only thing I can see that would mean we could see Weiss as the end is either if Weiss himself was pissed at mankind and wanted to kill everything, or because Weiss is the "human" version of Omega, as Vincent was of Chaos, so he could be seen as the brain or whatever I guess

And anyone else HATE the voice for G, really, that accent, he didn't even say the lines to well ;_;

Cobalt Katze Aug 22, 2006 09:01 PM

Started playing earlier this evening. I haven't minded the gameplay all too much, as the music and cutscenes are keeping me pumped enough to keep playing :) Certainly helps having a nice setup to really relish the production value that was put into it.

Soldier Aug 23, 2006 05:58 PM

I swear, Square is becoming a natural in rendering slick war scenes. The FMV involving a full scale war (airships! missles! hoverpads! yuffie!) should've been saved for AC.

The awesomeness doesn't end there. The path to Midgar is a perfect recreation of FFVII's geography. Everything from the train graveyard leading up to the Shinra building makes things eerily nostalgic (even weirder since Vincent never treaded in any of these locations).

It makes me sad how they got every single thing right except for the actual gameplay. This game needed a context sensitve button bad (KH2).

Also, they better make Playarts figures for Shelke and Nero. Seriously.

randomwab Aug 23, 2006 06:35 PM

I want a remade Vincent figure, the Advent Children figure just doesn't cut it. The figure should have a material cloak, not a plastic one, infact, I might but the Vincent figure and just make a cloak.

You're right though SOLDIER, getting to the Shinra building was like a wave of nostalgia. Dirge is great for that. Good times.

Edit: Ohh yeah, if you collected the G files, one of them hints toward Crisis Core's story (well, part of it)

Vash Aug 23, 2006 07:33 PM

You mean has something to do with this Genesis guy?

randomwab Aug 23, 2006 07:50 PM

Well...

Spoiler:
It said something about a Soldier 1st Class having an assignment to follow/find out more about him, i'm guessing that'll either be Sephiroth or Zack or maybe Zack's mentor? and will be covered in Crisis Core.

jb1234 Aug 23, 2006 08:01 PM

I beat DoC in two sessions (equaling about 9 hours). It kept me interested but it's hardly what I would call an awe-inspiring experience. The story never really jelled (much like AC, actually...).

The CG and music were the best part (easily). Playing through the game made me appreciate Hamauzu's work even more. It's a shame that most of his best pieces were barely played in the game.

Soldier Aug 23, 2006 08:30 PM

The music is great stuff, no doubt, and leaves me quite excited for what FFXIII might bring. But I do wish they used some of the existing FFVII songs. Yuffie's new theme is cute, but it can't replace the original.

I found one G file (I'm in deepground at the moment), but I don't know how tough the other two will be to find. I don't know where they're going with this, but I'm more than intrigued to find out.

Spoiler:
So we got a whole alphabet of super soldiers, with Sephiroth as "S" and this guy as "G"? That's going to suck hard for Cloud and the others if they have to fight A-Z

I can't believe they got the Shinra Mansion down perfectly. I was going by memory while moving around, and all the rooms were exactly where they were supposed to be. Vincen't coffin on one place, the spiral staircase on the next. It almost kills any reason to remake FFVII now.

jb1234 Aug 23, 2006 09:44 PM

Oddly, I didn't feel much nostalgia in DoC. I suppose they got the accuracies right (for the most part) but it didn't FEEL like the FFVII world to me... aside from the creepy (and largely ruined) first floor of the Shinra Building.

There were a lot of missed opportunities. A lot of the areas seemed interchangable (and had bland textures).
