I'm assuming there is going to be a second region I visit after beating the Sinnoh elite four like in Gold/Silver? The Sinnoh dex is incredibly imbalanced (only 2 fire, ice and electric families, but an excessive amount of water and bug types) and I really don't feel like the game has even started yet.

Also my FC is Julian - 0387 5419 7121 and I'm on pearl if anyone cares.

Yay, I finally made a decent one. :D

I didn't really do too much with my game today, I had a couple of guests over for my party, and all we did was a huge Beauty Contest, since we only had three people, there was one computer.

We got whipped by the computer. T_T

I did come in second though.

I still need to find a 5th Pokemon and readjust my team to compensate for it's apparent weakness <_<

Final Fantasy Phoneteen May 13, 2007 12:33 AM

You need a Psychic-type. I personally like Chimecho (evolved from Chingling, of course), even if most don't.

EDIT: Or, you know, use the greatness that is Drifblim.

Lukage May 13, 2007 01:34 AM

Alright I just plopped down some cash for this game and I've yet to play since Gold/Silver.

Essentially what is new, how does one get his pokeymans from those games, and where can I get my mudkip? :p

I'm through the second badge, so any of the obvious (2 pokemon fights, item holding, a lack of a real variety of pokeymanz) is already explained to me. I skimmed through here but didn't quite catch all what's going on.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen May 13, 2007 06:19 AM

New:
Allied trainers for 2-on-2 battles.
Various typing combinations.
New hold/evolution items.
Poketch apps for convenience.
WiFi battling/trading. (!)
Mining minigame/sidequest.

Transfers are done in Pal Park, which requires that the Sinnoh dex be completed and the Elite 4 defeated. Obviously only the GBA games are compatible, so you'd need to have FireRed and LeafGreen to see your Gold/Silver pokemon.

Anyway, good trades tonight-- got an Azelf (with Rare Candy) and Cacturne for a Charmander and Skorupi. Oddly enough, it's the Cacturne that looks hacked.

Chaotic May 13, 2007 07:50 AM

How so?

I'd find it weird considering you could catch Cacnea in the game in the first place.

Oh, I have an Alakazam that I never use anymore, but I get no instant gratification from him anymore. <_<

Final Fantasy Phoneteen May 13, 2007 07:55 AM

Can you catch Cacturne, though? In the 50s?

EDIT: Oh right, forgot that the capture background doesn't mean it's not from a pre-evolved form. An awfully high level, at least.

Chaotic May 13, 2007 07:59 AM

You can get Cacnea on Rt. 228. They're uncommon though. On the flipside, Cacturne can be found on the same route more commonly than Cacnea can.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen May 13, 2007 08:00 AM

Huh. Never read that before.

Chaotic May 13, 2007 08:09 AM

Serebii: Cacnea Entry
Serebii: Cacturne Entry

Reading further on, they're Post-National Dex Pokemon. So in order to see their entry, you have to have the National Dex, if it explains the ??? as their number.

You listed what I said I already knew about....but whatever.

So before I can trade I have to beat the game? Lame.

And to get Pokemon from Gold/Silver I need to trade them to Fire/Leaf? :\ 'cause if you've actually read what I posted, I also said I don't have those two.

Gold and Silver are Game Boy Color games and you can trade anything from those onto R/S/Fr/Lg. 2nd gen pokemon are scattered throughout all four of those games. Check Serebii.net's pokedex to figure out which ones are in what versions.

That's not entirely true. Miles didn't even get to the second gym but I traded him a Eevee that won't listen to him *it's at level 16 or 18 I believe.* And as far as I know you can't get that on your own until "beating" the game.
As for using Pal Park to migrate your pokemon from other games you need to get the national dex first. Which in turn might involve beating the game first but I hear that's optional.

Chaotic May 13, 2007 05:25 PM

As Kairyu said, it is possible. I got a Charmander in my team long before I beat the Elite Four and had gotten the National Dex.

I guess it just depends.

Elixir May 13, 2007 05:34 PM

I beat the game at 48 hours in, mostly with my level 90 Palkia which I obtained via GTS, and EV trained. But even then it was surprising how tough the E4 was. I'm working on my post-game team now before taking on Battle Tower or whatever it's called. Currently at 146 on my dex.

I'm still planning on having a team of at least Blissey, Milotic, Gengar, Honchkrow, and two others I haven't figured out yet. Blissey is a definite though, since I've been breeding them constantly, and finally have a satisfactory one with high IV's. If anyone would like 80 Chanseys, let me know.

Meh, just felt like posting it. May throw out one or two to make way for better monsters.

So, what're some good trades you've gotten over the GTS? I've gotten a nicely trained Salamence for a level 1 Charmander, ofcourse it was japanese but I could care less now that I can breed my own.

My nephew also got a Palkia in trade for a Marowak.

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon May 13, 2007 09:42 PM

Well, using the Wi-Fi connection in this house somehow depends upon Merv reconfiguring the software to support online play once again. Of course, doing this from a Linux base is probably more trouble than it's worth, so I'm waiting for him to switch his setup over to Windows once again.

Maybe when that happens, I can go online, get a damned friend code, create a Trainer Card, do some GTS stuff and actually battle people.

Or I could just order my own USB wi-fi adapter. But I hate spending the money when I don't absolutely have to.

No I didn't. You said you knew about hold items and 2-on-2, I said there are new hold items (plates and such) and allied trainers in 2-on-2 (as opposed to just two of your own pokemon against one pokemon from two trainers). The last thing you said you knew was a lack of variety, but I didn't even address anything related to that.

No, Gold and Silver aren't transferable to any installments after it. You have to visit islands in FireRed/LeafGreen that have the Gold/Silver pokemon on them, capture them, then transfer them to Pal Park in Diamond/Pearl. Lastly, I never said you own them, I was explaining the only way it's possible to see Gold/Silver pokemon in Diamond/Pearl (not including the ones you can find in the wild).

I'm a little surprised at how much flak you're trying to give me for helping you.

Pikachu for...

Roserade, Turtwig, Piplup, Gible... And various others. <_<

Final Fantasy Phoneteen May 14, 2007 02:44 PM

I try to trade fairly because of how dumb GTS is with demands for Riolus in exchange for Starlys or something. I'm just one person, but a ripple can become a wave!

That said, I'd say the Turwig I got in exchange for my Kadabra was a pretty sweet deal.

Chaotic May 14, 2007 02:49 PM

But i'm actually surprised how willing people are just for a Pokemon.

About 65% of my trades on the GTS, were with Pikachu, i've had a ridiculous list of demands, and i've gotten all of them.

I ended up getting a Turtwig five minutes after I had set up the trade.

[edit] Here's to hoping for ridiculous trades. I just set up a Chansey w/ Lucky Egg. I want a Palkia in return for it. I wanna see if it follows through.

Freelance May 14, 2007 03:27 PM

The only thing I've traded was:

Shieldon for a Combee
Lucario for a ???
Spiritomb for ???

Yay me and my poor memory.

I haven't done much GTS trading as you can see. I get most of my trades through GFFers.

Oh yeah, I caught Mesprit yesterday. I was cycling back and forth through Jublilife City to hatch an egg and I accidently wandered onto some grass and got into a random battle. Imagine my surprise when I saw what appeared.

I haven't bothered checking out Stark Mountain yet.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen May 14, 2007 03:29 PM

Speaking of Spiritomb, have you bred it any? I'm actually starting to net some decent Pokemon, so I might have something worthwhile for you in exchange for one.

Freelance May 14, 2007 03:38 PM

Yah I bred one already for my little sister, but I can get another for you if you wish. However, be prepared for connection Errorz if you wish to trade with me haha. It works...sometimes. We can try trading tonight if you wish.

Stark Mountain is good training. That's all I could say about it. <_<

But catching Mesprit didn't take me too long at all. Just look at your Marking Map and keep going back and fourth between a town and a route until you see that icon land where you are. When you see it, BOOM, there it is. I probably threw about 30 Quick Balls at before giving up and throwing a Master Ball at it. I was getting pissed off at it. T_T

And i'm interested in a Spiritomb, if you can breed one for me also, I'd appreciate it. :D

I'll give you something definitely worth it, even if the Pokemon itself isn't. :D
