I checked it again, and apparently it's called a "Service Contract".
Details are here. But then I dug around on xbox.com and found that MS will service any RRODs for up to 3 years from purchase. Strange. I guess it's for the times when you want to send your console in for a small hiccup like a lost save file? |
No, it is for actual problems other than RRoD. Like maybe 16 months from now your optical drive passes away. That would be fixed under the extended warranty.
|
Well, you can always induce an RROD at that point, or simply state that it's intermittant on the report.

There's a rumoured list of Xbox Live tweaks from an expected spring update that have appeared online. Most are fairly small changes, but there's some interesting ones in there. Here's the full list:
Spoiler:
The things that caught my eye are: - Group voice chat - Donate MS points to another Live account - Support for voice chat to Messenger contacts - Ability to delete 0 point games from gamercard (about fucking time if it happens) - Voice and picture messages accessible from Xbox.com (for Gold members) |
"11. Support for titles to store installation data on Storage Device for faster loading."
Finally going to allow optional HDD installs? If that's what that means, that's probably the best thing in the list. |
Provided it's handled properly, yes, I agree. I like the idea of exchanging MS Points between accounts. It'd be time to fuck up the Japanese economy if that's the case.
|
The MS point exchange thing has me curious. Something tells me you'd be limited to gifting people in your region, because I pay more for my MS points than you fuckers in the States, so it'd be easy for me to get you guys to gift me points via Paypal and all that jazz, which would royally screw up their rip-off Europe plans. Something tells me that if it happens it'll be bollocksed up.
|
Like many disappointing things, Heroes for instance, the speculation in our heads is probably going to be better than anything actually dished out from the source.
|
I like the sound of being able to set online status before I'm signed in. Much as I love playing with people online, some days you just want to play single player and it'd be easier to appear offline than to seem rude refusing game invites.
|
Group voice chat finally. Even though it is only up to four participants, that is still something that was a long time coming.
|
24. Option to disable invites from titles not on gamercard (excludes demos).
Now I won't get invites to play Halo 3/CoD4. Otherwise the things you listed sound like the very few things that Nintendo got right with their online service. Having the option to gift MS Points (why not XBLA titles?) is one of the few things that's missing from XBL. Plus it's about time they gave us group chat. |

That's the reason is why I am not farther along in the missions on GTAIV. Everytime I get on its all "So-and-So would like to Play!". I like Multiplayer as much as the next guy, but I wanna get to Time's Square one of these days! :gonk: Quote:

You can always turn down invitations to games. People would understand. Just saying.
|
I don't know, some people we know like to spam invites even when they know the person they are inviting don't even have the game in question.
|
I'm still skeptical. "Feature lists" for these updates always come out early, and they're always somewhat flakey looking or from sources that aren't always that trustworthy. I'd love a lot of what's on that list, but I remember reading rumour lists containing group chat as a feature the last time we got a major upgrade. I ain't doubting it, but I ain't believing it outright either. Seems too good to be true, and all that. Especially with some stuff like the installations being on there.
But the gifting points (I can finally buy a bit of content on a marketplace that's not American without tieing the credit card to another gamercard!), group chat, and clearing out of old crap on the gamercard will be nice. |
Good to be skeptical because Microsoft outright denied this list:

Well, that's a slight variation on the often used canned response they give to such things, that they have given it to both true and false rumours before, so it's hardly decisive.
I think the biggest knock against the list is how there are some wildly goofy things on it. |

Hahahahaha. Shit. No Spring update. AT ALL.
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: MS to Delist XBLA Titles : Next Generation - Interactive Entertainment Today, Video Game and Industry News - Home of Edge Online Mclawl sandwich. Turned out it was correct to be skeptical! Once again, "news" blogs make shit up! Horray~ That's not the only strange thing, though! BEHOLD. Quote:
I'm all for a fix to that extremely broken DRM. That's need a fix since day one. But removing titles from the service, even shitty ones, is ridiculous. Part of the point of digital distrobution is that there IS no shelf space one needs to consider. There is no concerns about lost revenue elsewhere if old product is left available. It lets people find whatever they want with ease, and not having to hear "sold out" or unavailable. This does nothing but hose over some devs. What's truely mind boggling is the bit about metacritic. Are we allowing a corrupt media to collectively decide what games we are even ALLOWED TO PLAY anymore? Just discount it and stick it in a special bargain bin catagory or something. There's literally NO REASON I can think of to remove the stuff other than realizing that browsing titles sucks on the Xbox. Some games I own that fall under the "metacritic has determined it sucks" catagory is Mad Tracks, Time Pilot, and Triggerheart Exelica. If these need to be deleted to make space, am I gonna be able to redownload them later? Hell, most of the arcade classics are eligible for delisting thanks to this. While I might personally not like them, a few people do. It's just silly to remove it at all. What argument do they have for doing this? GOOD GAMES NOT SELLING BECAUSE OF BAD GAMES? Then apply QA from here on out. But this is silly. |
Man, they are really hurting for hard drive space on their servers. Those 30 or so XBLA titles taking up those five total gigs of hard drive space simply have to go. I think I could donate them a couple 32 gig SCSI drives if they are hurting that bad.
|
I thought maybe instead of delisting titles they could cut the prices (or even give them away) at least that way there's a choice, removing them is just silly in my opinion. I kinda knew there wouldn't be any updates, that list was too good to be true. :(

As for the delisting titles thing, are they fucking stupid? There is no logical reason that I can think of for them to need to remove titles that are performing poorly. There are plenty of people who've not taken their system online yet that might LOVE some of the games that are on the service. The fact that the games are online means that the game will never be impossible to find/sold out. It's right there, a button press away. If they're worried about being able to find the good games, why not just put the crappy ones into a "Value" section? That's pretty much a euphemism for "Shit" at this point, you can just move all the crappy games into the Arcade Value section, knock them down a couple hundred MSP to justify them being a VALUE, then leave them there to rot. |
