My Wii didn't like my router connection last night, so I haven't actually gotten around to adding anyone yet. I'll get to the wiki tomorrow night and add everyone, but for now my code is 4639-8671-0953. I'm always up for a good match, though I haven't gotten to play as much as I'd like yet. Damn 9 hour car trip the day after Smash's release.

Summonmaster Mar 11, 2008 12:08 AM

All right I've added everybody in the wiki and those who have posted but haven't been included in the wiki at this point! Fortunately we don't have 64 GFFers yet :) I'll wait a while to see which ones clear as mutual registrations then PM everyone who is still "awaiting".

OH MAN LOL. Icy.. was that Identity Crisis? Like my taunts?

Especially making it rain on the Pikimin stage and "on like DK"? I was trying to figure out how to make the taunts work... I'm still not sure. =/

Dark Nation Mar 11, 2008 12:58 AM

Well just had a couple bouts with Tritoch, it was really fun.

So yeah, I'll be on this tomorrow night probably =D

SimDaddyGT Mar 11, 2008 01:12 AM

The lag didn't seem as bad tonight as last night, but then again, it took for-FUCKING-ever to get into an "Anyone" match, and I ended up clobbering someone's Pit repeatedly in 1v1 sessions. He tried to input 2 AI in our 3rd match, but I still won by 1 less death.

I'm starting to think I might be slightly, and that's a big slightly, better with Wolf than I am with Fox. I'm still making comparisons, but eh, I'm sure I'll find my #1 of the 2 in the upcoming days.

Anyone else have shitloads of trouble with Event #14 1P? I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing, as I spent 10 minutes per match just mauling Pikachu and the PT Trio.

Miles Mar 11, 2008 01:15 AM

Setting my Wii to DMZ has made my Brawl experience online much better. I did like a straight hour of basic brawl matches against multiple groups of 3 random people and actually won maybe half of them. That's funny too since I'm not really that good at the game. There were a few times where the game would lag and I'd suddenly fall of the edge or something. But that only happens when we get someone in our game that's laggy as fuck.

I hate it when people use the same characters every match though. I try to switch characters every different fight and yet there are some people who will ALWAYS use Pikachu or MetaKnight and spam the same bullshit over and over again for cheap kills. Pika lightning fall down and fuck everything over and over again. Whoo! Though after the first few times you learn to work around their cheapness and own them since they lack a real strategy or variety of attacks.

Never corner a Squirtle on a bridge. Never.

I was a bit worried after all the complaints of lag, but I guess that's died down already. We didn't seem to have any lag at all until our final match, so that bodes well for the game's future.

I'll definitely have to do that. And remember to shut down µTorrent when I decide to go on WFC. :tpg:

As an aside, I'm really surprised by Olimar. I hadn't played him at all until I had to in SSE, and he's actually pretty strong. I may start to use him more.

One more thing... What's with the Wiimote + Nunchuk hate? I'm actually liking this config better than the GCN controller... It gives a little more freedom with your movement, and with a couple small tweaks in the control settings, you can pretty much mimic the GCN control scheme with it.

The_Griffin Mar 11, 2008 01:49 AM

Yeah, I'm surprised by Olimar too. I tried him for a bit and thought he SUCKED... but when I was testing out Wolf I set him against a level 7 Olimar CPU and took like over 50% damage in 3-4 seconds. :gonk:

Slash Mar 11, 2008 01:50 AM

During the gamestop tournament i discovered myself jerking the wiimote up trying to jump lol

Sousuke Mar 11, 2008 01:53 AM

I actually went through a quick scan of the game's manual, and discovered a couple things about the Nunchuk config. I didn't know that A+B would allow you to do a grab or toss your item. I'd been stretching my thumb out reaching for the <- or -> on the D-pad. Though I still changed the setup so that down on the D-pad is for grabbing.

That, and I had no idea that a Wiimote-shake is supposed to perform a Smash Attack. News to me.

Yep. That was me. It looks like you did make it rain! Epic.

I like how you owned me when I was Ganondorf in Mushroomy Kingdom. Oh wait. :(

Luckily, I also have some :nazfail: recorded for future posterity. Particularly the Pit + Hammer combo.

Chaotic Mar 11, 2008 01:58 AM

Jeez, I need to start recording some stuff when I get online. ;_;

But I like Olimar a lot. Someone I wouldn't get too serious as a character with, but someone I'd use for good back up when I've used everyone else.

Today's Update: Flat Zone 2 and the Music for the stage.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Mar 11, 2008 02:28 AM

Olimar is really, really interesting to me, but I can't use him at all. Doesn't stop me from using him in the number three or four spot in Subspace Emissary, though. Once the community settles into the game, I'll have to do some research on him.

A few things:

- Thanks to whoever added my Friend Code to the Wiki, but I have no idea who's added me at this point.

- I just finished up Subspace Emissary today, as well as unlocking all of the characters. Working on stages now.

- Wario surprised the hell out of me. He's pretty fast considering the kind of character he is, and he's got a lot of multi-hit moves (Corkscrew is awesome). Still don't really understand how Wario Waft works, though.

- Aside from Wario, I enjoy using Luigi, Ike and Pokemon Trainer.

You're supposed to avoid them while having all six Pikmin out so they eventually sprout flowers on their head.

Nah, it wasn't too hard. At least not as bad as say Event 23. It took me a good 10 tries to get it right D:.
Like Lacerta said, just pull out six pikmin and protect them until they sprout flowers (someone told me that takes about a minute to do.)

I'm starting to wonder if I just have NWC troubles in general. My DS has never had many (read: any) really flawless sessions with multiplayer games there, my Wii has issues with WiiConnect24 from time to time even just when sending messages (they often get lost and don't send), and Brawl just flat out lags like an ever loving bitch for me. Unplayable. Completely and utterly unplayable. A friend match with ONE PERSON doesn't even work properly.

Might as well take my friend code off the wiki, I won't be playing online if this keeps up. A crying shame too. It was the feature I was most looking forward to.

Oh god, I hated that one. ;_;

I remember actually getting into the pod, only to be KOed by Falcon JUST before it closed.

I managed to complete all the events though. On Normal, at least. A couple I've done on Hard, but I'll get to that later.

I'm still hoping this is a Nintendo issue. My DS works flawlessly, and I've played matches of Mario Strikers with no problems, but I've been unable to connect to any matches on Brawl. Mostly I just sit around waiting in an empty practice room. Once or twice I've seen someone join, it counts down, then it says their status is "brawling", and 30 seconds or so later it tells me the connection with other players was lost. I haven't been able to join a friends match because I haven't seen anyone on my list online, other than trying to join a match with Identity Crisis and failing once.

Buizel Mar 11, 2008 09:50 AM

Hmm, seems like some people are having a difficult time connecting to me or when they do, it lags. I just hope this problem is cause by the overload on Nintendo Wi-Fi but nevertheless I'll check my router setting and doing that DMZ thing... if I know what it is... >_>

As always you can join in around the afternoon and evening EST.

Lacerta Mar 11, 2008 10:01 AM

20 Challenges or so left on the Challenge wall.

All stuff I do not want to do or have not been able to do (50 hours of brawling, 5000 KOs, beat 100-man brawl with everyone.. etc etc).

When I did all the Events, they were pretty simple on Easy, still easy on Normal, and then when I got to Hard I wanted to pull my hair out on a few.

Mainly #13 - Dragoon Strike, #17 Super Waterfull Climb (mostly due to timing issues with the Up+B though for me), #27 - Three-Beast Carnage, and #41 - The FINAL Final Battle.

Taco knows how much #41 pissed me off.

Spoiler:
Freaking Giant Mario. Sonic and Snake are fine since they are normal sized, but GIANT MARIO UGH.

Monkey King Mar 11, 2008 10:30 AM

You non-job having peoples. All I've managed to do is clear SSE with my brother over the past two days, minus Wolf because I keep losing my good characters on the way to his door. I've discovered that Charizard is a monster on teeny tiny stages like Onett, but in a wide open level he's just a liability, especially when the computer won't stop juggling me.

It's nice to hear that they put some effort into making even the oddball characters playable. I wouldn't have guessed Olimar could be that punishing for the short time I played him. I wish I could figure out how you use the heavyweight fighters, though. I tried Dedede, but I just keep getting kicked in the nuts trying to do anything other than A attacks.

Josiah Mar 11, 2008 12:28 PM

I just figured the lag was due mostly in part to me being on crappy DSL. :annoyed:

I haven't been concentrating so much on online brawls though. Now that I've got all the characters unlocked it's on to getting the stages and music unlocked, the latter mostly because I'm looking to update the CSV of all the tags of the music rip I have and then post it.

Don't know if others on GFF or maybe ffshrine are busy with that, but I figure it wouldn't hurt to get cracking on it myself.

Animechanic Mar 11, 2008 12:29 PM

I managed to have some nice bouts with Dr. Uzuki last night. Had a lag spike during the 2nd match, but the rest were all fine. I'm wondering if it was because of the late hour that it went so smoothly. Either that or it just depends on individual wireless connections. Is anyone using the USB dongle for their wireless connection? If so, how has your lag been? My friend I tried to play with before was using that and our games were pretty awful.

Edit: Hmmm... I'm in Seattle and Uzuki is in Portland, while my laggy friend is in Tucson, AZ. Maybe geographical location is critical. Will have to experiment more.
