The usual route.

Also is level 95 more than enough to finish the final boss and survive 10 rounds at the SG with increasing difficulty each round?

Forsety Oct 26, 2006 09:25 PM

The game depends more on your skill setups and equipment than raw levels. Never noticed that the stat boosts by leveling up are piss poor? Better to release Einherjar and get the boost items from them. Also scour the gate for the best possible gear. (there are some very irritating crystal puzzles, though)

So yes, you're fine. You would have been fine 30 levels ago. Or 40 even. <<

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Oct 27, 2006 10:21 AM

Ah, those platforming parts could be worse. I played the import without realizing the mid-air jump can always be performed if you're holding down the jump button. So, I was doing those puzzles with only, like, a 10% chance of making the leap onto ledges or whatever and still did it.

Spatula Oct 27, 2006 10:42 AM

I'm going through the Ravine again and now I'm remember why I hate this place. It seems pretty straightforward at first, however I'm still wanting to get that "reduce dmg to 1/4" sealstone. I've got about 81% of the map done, but I'm just cyrstalizing the goons rather than fighting them for now, due to the sealstone.

Single Elbow Oct 27, 2006 06:05 PM

What intrigued me though is how did Xellos got his Arngrim a massive power boost, like 50K each attack? Does it involve certain steps or..? I'm VERY curious how to get that high attack power since mine can only go up to about 6,000 twice (first strike and aerial slash) and a couple 1,000s in betweens and afterwards in Arny's Final Blast with ALL of the einherjar released and their prizes towards Arngrim (like the stones left when the souls were released).

Is it the einherjar or something? I really do want to know. Did I miss something by not releasing my recruited souls in chapter 5? Anything?

:(

Spatula Oct 27, 2006 07:16 PM

I was supposed to release the Einherjar in chapter 5 for the optimal effect? Oh shit.

Forsety Oct 27, 2006 11:51 PM

Er no, Optimal effect would be perfect releases in the Seraphic Gate. It makes the game easier to release them earlier, but if you want the absolute most stat boosts, wait until the SG and make sure they all have the best possible gears equipped.

Single Elbow Oct 27, 2006 11:59 PM

Spatty, releasing them in Chapter 5 nets minimal items. I was thinking of like Warrior Wits or something. Sorry.

So what you're trying to say is.. level them all up to 99 and aren't SG weapons/gears appear only once? Or is it like every warrior is supposed to be equipped with the final sword with Conqueror's Armor? (btw, the sword drop by Tiamat) as an example?

Give me examples of "best possible gears", does this also include accessories? I still have most of my einherjar ready to be released, but not yet.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Oct 28, 2006 10:40 AM

Accessories and level (aside from the basic release level) have no effect on an Einherjar's release items. Just equipment.

Released every einherjar with "best" gear. That means a SHITLOAD of +str items. Every single one gave a +20 str/dex one and the 3 heavy fighters gave 99 x +5 str each, and the archers and light fighters around 15-30 each so yeah his strength went to like 3500 or something insane like that. I think he had something like 13.000 ATK with trinkets.

Spatula Oct 28, 2006 03:17 PM

I'm one item away from the Conquerers Armor. I just need something called DEEP DOOM. Where's it at?

Also, I cleared out 100% of the Ravine. How do you fight the boss that "flashing" in the most left top row of the rooms?

Xellos Oct 29, 2006 11:45 AM

The skeletons in the final dungeon drop those. Forgot which part drops it, so just use whatever you use to break stuff. You can always use Rufus with dismantle and blue gale bow.

The flashing boss has the sealstone that negates encouters (awesome sealstone! be sure to get it) if you played VP1 it's kinda like dimension slip, but here you can still touch the enemies and stand on top of them and fight them if you slash your sword, but it won't trigger a battle simply by touching.

To fight that monster, you have to find that sealstone in ravine cavern that negates sealstone effect. I think that's what it was called. It's hidden somewhere you'll have to find it, and then place it on a dais that's near that monster.

Spatula Oct 29, 2006 05:00 PM

Okay, let's just say I got my ass handed to me by the 2nd final boss.

Spoiler:
Harry Potter's, no wa, Mr Valeth's Indifferential Judgement along with Rebellious Repent are what basically wasted my party. Most of my guys are around the 52-55 level range, and all have toughness, so they're at about 8,000-16,000 HP. Still, I need better weapons and armor.

Should I venture into the Sepheric Gate just for the hell of it, and to power up my guys, plus get pretty interesting items? I think I'll get my ass handed to me even though I'm pretty okay for most of the dungeons in this game, save for the 2nd final boss.

EDIT:

Diane Hamilton, I shall lick her boots. Holy Shit. :tpg:

Isn't the Elusive Law Sealstone usually by the T-Rex which boasts MASSIVE defense?

Also should I get Tyrfing for all heavy swordsmen for good damage?

Xellos Oct 29, 2006 09:18 PM

He's easily killable without doing SG. Takes the challenge out of it if you do SG before. I was at level 65 when I beat him.

Spoiler:
Only Valkyrie will do actual damage to him. The others do like 1/8th damage or something stupid like that.

Equip first aid if he does too much damage. there's a trinket that has the same effect, and they stack. Combine that with the 200% healing sealstone and you'll pretty much always get the damage taken back in health. first aid gives half the damage back in health, but since you have a sealstone that doubles healing you get the full thing back, with the trinket the chance is doubled so your set. Use the 120% all resist sealstone as well, and if he does so much damage use survival and you WILL be unstoppable.

Some use a tactic where they don't use the other 3 characters and only let her do the damage, since the others won't be doing much damage anyway, and use them mainly as healers, but I didn't see that many problems with him to bother with this.

I don't recall what it looked like, but it wasn't that amazing.

If you want to release them then yes, that's the sword you want. that will get you 99 +str items. It lowers your RDM and AVD but who cares right? 2200 attack power.

Spatula Oct 29, 2006 10:38 PM

I was killed by the last boss, and I started without getting to this post. God damn, I don't think I'll be beating this game before FFXII.

First aid, how often does this come around? I had it before but it didn't seem to work too well, not like in VP1 where it was almost after every round. Where is the 200% healing stone? I serious need that, considering Valkyrie
Spoiler:
Can't cast any magic, hence my heal magic which was keeping me alive in the first phase, is now replaced by using healing items =/

Is it just me, or did Tri Ace REALLY pull out the stops on this boss, even Bloodbane was do-able after me trying the second time.

EDIT:

GOD DAMN HOW COULD I BE SO CARELESS? I forgot that the area seal stone still had the +150 ATK sealstone, no wonder his attacks are so lethal! Plus I forgot to put the Chasm Wrath (RDM and RST down 50%) onto the dias!! STUPID STUPID SPATULA!!!

DOUBLE EDIT:

WINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN I WOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNN

Ahem. Now, thanks Xellos for recommending me to do that with 1st aid and 200% sealstone, that made things MUCH easier ^___^. Furthermore, I put a chasm wrath sealstone and a machocist seal stone, so my guys did pretty decent damage. Plus, I like how the boss got a taste of his own medicine with the Machocist sealstone, and he'd take back some of the damage he dealt himself.

The ending was meh, but expected. I'm very happy I played this game ^__^.

Forsety Oct 30, 2006 12:59 AM

He's really not hard at all. His attack range is so bad you can seriously just wrap around him to refill your AP. I wasn't joking when I said that's what I did. toughness+survival on "Alicia" and wrap circles around him while wailing on him. Left everyone else on the other side of the map as back up in case he somehow nailed me with his instant death spell. Going at him as a group got me massacred very fast.

Indeed, twice I tried to take him head on. Before I thought this guy was impossible, and dared not step into sepheric gate. But it's with the help of the sealstones (for christ sakes I totally forgot to restore the +150 ATK which basically no wonder made him so powerful), and the first aid was a BIG help. Rarely did I have to pause to raise my HP up again, only for those odd moments.

Now to work on that ho, Diane Hamilton, that's standing in my way to SC!

I have to say I was pretty petrified at first when I saw his attack radius of the Indifferent Judgement, it's radius was basically like a DEATH STAR!, but after lowering his RDM and RST by 1/2 with the sealstone (which helped out a lot as well), I didn't mind getting hit once in a while, since some of the attacks got deflected right back at him thanks to the Machochist sealstone.

So um regarding the ending:

THIS IS THE ENDING, DON'T READ IT IF YOU HAVEN'T BEATEN IT:

What happens with Alicia, despite this being a stupid question? Did she just get transferred to Valhalla (which wouldn't make sense, since Rufus can just visit her anytime should this have occurred)? I'm guessing she just flopped over and pulled of a very Cowboy Bebopish -Spike.

What's up with Odin? Did he get set free since the Gungnir was returned to Asgard?

How about the 3 Valkyries? I'm guessing those got sent back to Asgard.

And how about our friend Lezard? I guess he went forward in time to back where he belongs, and continues his research, and making homoculi in the shape of Lenneth, to um, fap off to or something.

Meh, I'm not too much interested in the whole time machine thing. Or time travel for that matter. I liked VP1 where it concentrated mostly on events at hand. Does the Lenneth know what happened back in the events of VP2? I should watch that sequence again where Lenneth visits Dipan. She says she recognizes Hrist's voice. I honestly thought it wasn't a time machine in VP1, but rather just some funky warp thing that made her hallucinate that she was back in the good old days of Dipan, similiar to that of FFX and the gang checking out the old Zanarkand.

Reviving out of due haste.

So yeah, SG. Two questions. How in the world could you get Tyrfing?! I swear, it's a total pain in the ass! And how do you deal with the whole damn dungeon? Like said, the puzzles here are extremely annoying.

SouthJag Nov 5, 2006 02:58 AM

I just started the game a couple nights ago, and you know what?

Fuck Final Fantasy XII. I wasn't even planning on getting it anyway, but now I see there's no reason to even bother with it anymore. VP2 is made of absolute win.

I'm still in Chapter 3, having just made it in to Kalstad. Only annoyance I have is with what seems to be an unusual spike in difficulty. Had a hard time beating down some of the enemies -- felt like I was constantly under-equipped or ill-prepared, which would be a first for any of my RPG experiences. Other than that, freakin' awesome game.

There's two ways to get them. one is to be lucky and you have a low chance of getting it at the end of battle, but I hate this, because this fucker doesn't respawn until you exit the dungeon and re-enter it.

Here's what I did. I equiped the best weapons I had at the time. and gave everyone 3 of those +5% attack power and a power bandle. Now I'm not sure if what I did next actually helped, but it seemed like it. I gave everyone the skills Dragon Killer and Unscale Might. Dragon Killer obviously works since it's a dragon, but i'm pretty sure unscale might works as well, since it says does more damage on enemies with scales, and i'm pretty sure dragons classify.

Now when I fought them this time, I did so much damage that I nearly killed him in 1 attack run. Had to do twice in the end, but ended battle with full bonus bar, and thus a 100% chance of getting that sword. If your lucky you get two at the end, but worst case scenario you do it 4 or 5 times, no biggie.

Just made sure to equip the sealstones every time you go in. half RDM matters, as does no-guard and maybe the other half RDM one.

Oh, and equip EVERY attack sealstone you have. 120% one, 120% all stats, 150% attack half RDM and 150% attack no heal.

You will succeed.

Southjag:

Make sure to equip the right skills and weapons, and importantly accesoiries. Throughout most of the game I wore 4x beetle shell, which raises your RDM by like err... a lot. I used Fist or Iron (120% attack) fortify physique (RDM 150%) the entire game, along with the trusted 120% ATK and RDM sealstones.

Eventually I switched the bettle shells for stuff like Narwals Tooth which each gives 5% attack, and if fully linked you'll be doing like twice as much damage if not more.

I honest didn't have much trouble with the entire game, save for 2 boss battles. I don't think it's the leveling that matters, it's keeping your shit up to date. Make sure you expiriment a bit and take a look at the armor shops. You can create some good stuff there pretty early on.

If your using Arngrim and Dylan try to get them some Elemental Edge and later the Grand String swords. They are relatively easy to get. Same with armors there's some really overpowered stuff you can make in chapter 3. I strongly suggest you put a lot of time in getting the materials for them.

Spatula Nov 5, 2006 11:42 AM

SouthJag, learn as many skills as possible for Angrim and Alicia, as well as any other Einjerhar you encounter. I personally think the best place to level up is in the Halo room in the Palace of Venerated Dragon.

Yes, I think I like the battle system for VP2 much more than FFXII, because it's FLASHY and it's the type of game you'd want to play in front of your friends for them to go OOOHHHHH WOOOW LOOK AT ALL THOSE FLASHY MOVES!

Thanks. The question now is where to get them. I've been hearing "Oh! That's in floor 4 where you fight that boss!". Yeah, I've been messing around the 4th floor and the ones I have not gotten to yet are those damn puzzles in certain rooms. Is Tyrfing one of those rooms with puzzles?

Also lawl at Arectaris Returned. What strategy applies to him to kill him quickly (to get the Soothsayer's Bow)? Getting to fight him is a puzzle that I found relatively easy to solve but requires precision to get him.

And oh, where to get Wind Gloves and... Ether Crowns! Yeah, I heard these things are RARE as fuck. Just wondering where to get these items.

Again, thanks.

Xellos Nov 6, 2006 10:05 AM

Tyrfing is on the 5th floor, it's a HUGE dragon you can't miss him. when you enter the place go all the way east. he's in the eastmost room.

Arectaris Returned is easy to get too, can't really explain how I did it, but it involves changing places with 3 different mobs to get him to a place where you don't fall down. And it's the Sylvan Bow.

I think you had to place that floating enemy's soul near him, above the flatform he's under. then go all the way to the bottom left and exchange places with the first enemy, then with Arectaris, and jump up. use that soul you placed there to get back up to the bottom left, you should be able to reach him then. It might have been a bit different, I can't remember exactly.

My opinion of that bow differs. It doesn't have a Soul Crush, and the attack power is based on your level. 20 x level, so at level 99 Rufus, or any archer will do 1980 damage per hit, which is good, but it's always 1980, nothing will increase it, which is why I kept the Soothsayer Bow, which I in the end did like roughly a 1000 damage with, but you get a soul crush with it which balances out the lower damage. One thing is for sure though, Sylvan Bow + Rufus + Triple Edge/Double Edge + Killing Thorn is scary as hell. Not every hit will do 1980, but a good 10 maybe 20 hits does.

Wind Gloves you make in Crell Monferague, Ether Crowns drop from Walther and Gyne. Annoying as hell to get. They are on 5th floor in the room where if you open a chest 2 guys ambush you.
