I picked up my Legendary Edition last night because I work at a game store, of course I had to work the launch shift. But yeah, so far I've only been playing the single-player and it's definately the best SP of all three Halos IMO. Only thing I have to say about the LEndary Edition is while the content is cool and the helmet looks pretty sweet on display, what's with the game packaging though? It's looks like it's a pirated copy or something. The only thing that has colour is the word Halo 3 and the case itself is a standard black DVD case. WFT?

Yeah, the disc cases are a bit wierd, and I would have liked two cases for the two discs, but I guess you can't get everything.

I picked up the regular edition last night and had an all night LAN party with about 12 people. Epic shit. I was a little jealous of one of them when he was showing off his Legendary helmet. From all the pictures I'd seen on fliers and from what I heard from GameStop clerks, I was under the impression the helmet was the size of a baseball and was essentially a paperweight. I had no idea it was more or less life-size and meant to house the whole trilogy. Still not really worth an extra $100 though, imo.
The controls take a little getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, you start to wonder how you got along with the old setup. Slayer was great fun, but I think we had the most fun with Infection. We turned off the radar and tweaked it so that the zombies were slow, but could jump really high, putting a rather large dent in the whole "Get to higher ground and camp" plan. Also, Save one Bullet mode makes it really intense. We started playing the campaign at around 5:00 am and so far it's pretty good. Spoiler:
Oh my god, the weapons. The needler is vastly improved and is actually useful. Halo 1's Assault Rifle! Flamethrower, Halo 1's Pistol, sans scope and not overpowered. Brute Pistol and Shotgun, Swords with ammo! I think I can safely say that this is THE best Halo, surpassing even the original in balance and fun. Halo 2 left a bad taste in my mouth, but 3 took everything that was wrong with it, fixed it and made it better. That'll do, Bungie. That'll do. |

I can't see how you can say it's a 9.9. Way too short by any FPS standard. |
Gonna go get Halo 3 Legendary Edition right now. Debating whether I'll get a 360 as well. They said they had them. I'll probably get a wireless adapter as well. Perhaps this weekend I'll play co-op with some of you dudes. I'm sure it'll be a great way to start my 360 experience if so. =))))

I played one multiplayer game and pretty much decided that it is terrible and not worth $60.
Time to go get dat refund. |

Oh yeah, thanks for the crazy weapon assists back there :tpg:. |

I think Bungie just got lazy, and decided to focus too much on the multiplayer, leaving people who bought the game for a great single player campaign(Like me) with a shorter than average FPS. Granted it might be extremely fun, I don't know yet, but it's way too short. I'm disappointed and I haven't even touch the game yet. Maybe I'm spoiled by 60 hour RPGs. |

Also, who buys a console FPS for the story, hell, Gears was much shorter than Halo has ever been (Gears' story can be beaten in insanely short time, 5-6 hours tops, iirc.), and that was well received. If you're really looking for 60 hours, go play and RPG, or Dynasty Warriors: Gundam, which took me 60+ hours to beat. The multiplayer is what keeps people playing an FPS for years, not the story. People aren't playing Unreal Tournament, Quake, and Doom years later because of the single player experience. The SP is more like a bonus in this case, the MP is what counts in the long run. Now, if this were Metroid, I'd be singing a different tune. A series without MP should have a story that you can dive into for hours and hours at a time. This isn't to say the story mode in Halo 3 isn't worth it. It's short, but the replay value is great if you have a huge friends list and different people to play with. I've played with two groups so far, and the experience has been different each time. Tons of fun. |
I want to play this single player game for more than 6 hours, dude. Yes, Gears of Wars was too short, but at least it was a unique game, it did something different than other shooters, so I can understand the accolades. Halo 3 is more of the same though, it's already been done in Halo 1 and Halo 2, and countless others similar to it. At the very least, one would think, with all the endless hype and quotes like "the most anticipated game ever made"(which I definitely don't agree with), it would be at least as long as the average FPS, but should be longer. Yet Halo 3 is shorter than the average FPS. And from what I've read, it seem that the campaign is not even as good as Halo 1 was. That's bullshit.
And fuck the Multiplayer, the whole Halo hype started from Halo 1 having a great single player campaign mode. Many play it for only for online multiplayer now, but a lot still play for the Single player. Single Player is not a "Bonus". That's a dumb statement. I'm not even into the Multiplayer of Halo. I recently played though Halo 2 campaign again, and I haven't played the online game since a month or 2 after I got the game when it launched. It got boring to me pretty quickly, unfortunately. Let's put it this way, if Halo 3 was multiplayer only, I wouldn't even put a thought into buying this game. |

he said about 12-13 hours total. Where in the fuck did you pull 60 hours from!? |

Stop crying. Leave the thread. Problem solved. If you spend 60 dollars just for the campaign alone, you'll be wasting your money. The real fun is playing campaign with friends you know and then hoping online to test your skills. That's the only way to do it. I'm kinda sad because I've been getting invites ALL DAY from a good 40 or so people on my list. Now that we're done campaign I can't wait to get together with all the guys I've met on live and on GFF and tear shit up in Big Team games. |
Spending 60 dollars for just the campaign alone is not a waste of money. I enjoyed it slightly more than Gears of War, even.
And fuck the hype, I didn't buy into any of it and I was impressed. Get a mind of your own. |
so basically me, mo0, skills, and tails just completed the campaign from start to finish on legendary in 7 hours. Yes, 7 hours as with 4 players it drastically reduces the difficulty of a campaign that was designed with only one or two players in mind.
If you play through the game by yourself like it was intended for; it will definitely clock in at 12-13 hours. We passed on doing alot of things like watching cutscenes, using tactics, and absorbing all th atmosphere and environment the game has to offer. Basically, 4 player co-op adds a second layer to the already great SP game and is basically revolutionary in how it is implemented. Halo 3 takes a SP campaign and basically provides you with two enjoyable yet entirely different ways to play it. |
On a side note
I'm actually impressed that Bungee studios took a lot from Halo : Fall of Reach and placed it into the game |
I've decided to make a few comments after quietly reading over this thread.
By now, all of you know that Halo 3 has been unanimously accepted as the true successor to the game that changed the world, Halo. Scoring almost flawless reviews across the board, and being acknowledged by diehard fans of the series and first-time FPS players alike, the game has already become a modern classic. As for myself, being able to report -- with an unbiased candor -- that the game has surpassed my own impossible expectations, I can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Being able to call it game of the decade is still a bit surreal, even for me. Moreover, if you wish to see my in-depth review, please visit the Halo forum of EvilAvatar.com, as I presently moderate it. That being said, here's the two key points I wanted to make: 1. This thread reeks of sheer animosity and spite, directed in disbelief as an act of unfounded desperation. Halo 3 actually living up to the hype seems to have pushed many of you over the edge. Without even willing to play the game before making ill, preconceived judgments, you've all revealed yourselves to be nothing other than a small, minority of irrelevant cry babies. Enjoy your Halo ass fucking. 2. Megalith is a hypocritical failure, and troll. After tirelessly bashing the Halo series, due to his own personal dislikes with its sequel, he is now incapable of giving a positive impression of the next game. This is mainly due to the fear of shooting himself in the foot, and exposing the fact that he is incapable of forming a conclusive opinion regarding anything. After tireless flip-flopping and an endless stream of incoherent insults, he is now incapable of discussing Halo in a way that can be viewed as reasonable or rational, even by the most feverish oh Halo haters. He will also not attempt to refute this point, as: A) It's true, and B) His argumentative abilities hold the mental capacity of a donut. But you all know this already. With that being said, I would like to point out that I've honestly had a blast playing Halo 3 with the regulars of #xblive, and truly appreciate the fact that some users of Gamingforce are willing to set their personal biases aside, giving the series the benefit of the doubt. It's fairly obvious that we have some new Halo fans in town. Also, Tube, your Halo 3 review was extremely accurate, well written, and unbiased. I appreciate your impressions. That is all I have to say. Zeal |
I'm doing 2 player co-op and we're about 5 hours in, and so far, I'm loving the shit out of this game. I do need to get better at slayer and multiplayer :P
on a lighter note: Not everyone's happy with Halo 3... LOL
MEGA64 is great. Also http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l2...11/62iqquf.gif |

I'd like to hop on LIVE for some Co-op or multiplayer, but being a complete newb to FPS and Halo, as well as LIVE itself, not sure if there would be people willing to invite me...
I played a bit of the campaign and got a feel for it. It IS fun, but I also sucked badly with getting killed alot. Fooled around with Forge alot, as well as the Save Films feature. Both of them are awesome. |

Another list of people can be found here - "Gamingforce Members Leaderboard" - A Custom GamerScore Leaderboard :: MyGamerCard.net Also, when the fuck did games less than 40 hours long suddenly become rubbish or not worth the money? BioShock wasn't that long and has no multiplayer component but I do not regret spending my money on it at all. I'm curious, to the people complaining about single player game lengths, do you only ever go and see a film at the cinema if it's at least 3 hours long? If anything falls short of that do you piss and moan about being ripped off then? Colour me curious. |
Not to forget that the people complaining about the length here are probably all avid fans, who've breezed through Halo 1 and 2 countless times and spent days in the multiplayer section of those games.
So, I'm not that surprised if "hardcore gamers" of that sort manage to romp through a single player campaign in no time on a very high difficulty. But I guess when I pick up Halo 3 (I've yet to find me copies of 1 and 2, never played them before...), I'll take a wee bit longer. And I GUESS I'll be buying it for the single player campaign. But I'm new to XBox, so I just might jump into multiplayer... Still, up to know I've bought pretty much every single game I own - bar some Nintendo party games - for the single player. |
I hate Virgin and I hate Royal Mail I should get my copy tomorrow providing the Postman hasn't nicked it.
EDIT: And as I typed that the Postman came expect pics later. |
A quick note, many of the themes from Halo 1 are rehashed in more choral-intensive versions (I've heard Brothers in Arms and some others) and some themes straight off Halo 2 are also present (Ghosts of Reach, Unforgotten, pretty much all the music in the title screen, Mombasa Suite, Delta Halo Suite, etc.) I know music obviously isn't the focus but it's a little disheartening to not have a fresh, new tune stuck in my head like the first two did, and i'm a little in halfway through the game.
