But the axe has a 700+ ATP advantage to make up for the reduced accuracy... the double saber has strong PA's and that's it. I posted this on PSOWorld before, but here's a look at the A rank weapons available in the shop that we'll get on next patch:

Figunner-oriented weaponry
Youmei A rank Dual Daggers give 166 ATP, 236 ATA, 348 PP.
GRM A rank Double Saber gives 274 ATP, 92 ATA, 357 PP. (the low ATA is not a typo)
GRM A rank Dual Sabers give 276 ATP, 219 ATA, 306 PP.
Youmei A rank Dagger gives 318 ATP, 245 ATA, 297 PP.
GRM A rank Saber gives 487 ATP, 228 ATA, 255 PP.

Fortefighter-oriented weaponry
Tenora Works A rank Fists give 310 ATP, 287 ATA, 275 PP.
Youmei A rank Claws give 316 ATP, 202 ATA, 326 PP.
Youmei A rank Claw gives 487 ATP, 211 ATA, 275 PP.
GRM A rank Sword gives 598 ATP, 169 ATA, 317 PP.
Tenora Works A rank Spear gives 553 ATP, 253 ATA, 340 PP.
Tenora Works A rank Axe gives 1018 ATP, 84 ATA, 334 PP. (that ATP is also not a typo)

Note that you can't go and buy a Youmei Axe, or a GRM spear for A rank. It seems to be one brand per weapon class from this point on, as was the case when I was on the import, and importers have stated that the situation hasn't changed since then. Double sabers swing slower, are about the same strength, and considerably less accurate than twin sabers... I'm personally skipping out on them until I see something worthwhile from the weapon class, because the shop stuff sucks.

So you're saying that the double saber not only doesn't have a photon art, but it stats suck?

Then why bother releasing a weapon that has no use at all at this point? It has no attibutes and only weakness.

Winter Storm Dec 2, 2006 04:06 AM

Well lets think about this for a second...90% of the people who want to go figunner are doing so just for the ability to use the doublesaber. Having seen that thing in action, releasing it with the same power = no one else get's xp, forces wasting PP on MISSED techs cause mobs flying all over the world. Yea it makes sense to me.

Screw double saber then. I'm waiting for that charge punch PA for knuckles! (like always)

Don't jump ship too fast. For the record, the Forte type classes all get a 20% discount to their photon point usage. Also, all classes except Protranser get a 25% faster photon point regen rate, another exception to Guntecher which gets a 40% faster regen rate on their guns instead.

There's lots of little perks for each class and race to make you really consider things. Protransers get a +50% critical hit rate, Fortegunners and Guntechers get a +30% critical hit rate. Then there's certain job/race combinations that give you bonus stats.

Edit: Regarding the double saber photon art, the first one we get online is the one that Lou uses, if I am remembering right. All looks, no substance if you ask me. The high photon point cost of double sabers along with lackluster stats is a complete turn-off.

Edit 2: Guntecher, not wartecher. Whoops.

Para Dec 2, 2006 12:50 PM

Wait wait wait.

Double Saber will get a PA on dec8 but it wont be tornado dance. It will be spiral dance which is the PA Lou uses. Double Saber is actually a very tricky weapon to use.

Winter Storm Dec 2, 2006 01:05 PM

WOW I have 2 40+ characters and I don't know shit and I read psupedia like nuts >_>. I forgot all about the PP regen and usage bonuses. Thing is though I wont have race bonuses cause I'm human and not going Figunner, Guntecher, Wartecher or Protranser.

That still doesn't explain the stats of the actual weapon though. It has no attributes, just weakness, since other weapons have far better damage and accuracy. There's no reason for anyone to get this weapon at all, why bother releasing it? Its kinda a waste of data space at ths point. Not that it takes up much space, but its the principle of the thing.

What about grinded double sabers? Does it start having higher accuracy and making it a worthy weapon to have or is the double saber just plain garbage no matter what you do?

Winter Storm Dec 2, 2006 06:23 PM

Got me there.

I guess it'll be good for as a farm weapon :/.

Hotobu Dec 3, 2006 12:17 AM

It could be to account for the double saber circle jerk that was PSO. There were so many varieties of them and EVERYONE and their mother had one. I really can't blame the players as it was a great melee weapon, but there was very little variety.

Double Saber, Twin Brand, Stag Cutlery, Demolition Comet, Twin Lavis, Monkey King Bar, Black King Bar. Did I miss any?

As for me Fortegunner is looking better and better. Right now I've got 3 twin handguns and I don't have to babysit their PP that much, but depending on the party and the difficulty of the mission sometimes I find myself taking more time between shots, but with a lower PP usage and a faster regen rate I can really go nuts. Not to mention the insane accuracy boost everything should be status affected within 3 shots.

By the way is it just me or does NOBODY use traps? I'm sure it has a bit to do with money being a problem in this game, but I don't even see really high level rangers using them.

Kairi Li Dec 3, 2006 01:26 AM

People use items that they can find for free most of the time. And so far after 100 hours of gameplay I only possess one trap.

I don't think that trap focused class will be popular at this rate.

SailorDaravon Dec 3, 2006 01:36 AM

Traps are largely a crapshoot. Even the G traps will usually only hit one enemy (in most levels). Traps seem to hit multiple enemies in Linear Line missions, but everywhere else you're lucky to get more than one hit. I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed with Protransers honestly. Their stats are horrrrrible (although they get fairly decent by lvl 10, but still not near other classes), and they have some of everything, but they were lacking my preferred weapon of each type. Lame.

Para Dec 3, 2006 02:56 AM

One of the things that people criticize Double Saber about is its crappy attack animation which I agree. Double Sabers are slower than their PSO counterparts. They can easily leave you open wide to an attack in a midst of an attack combo.

Hotobu Dec 3, 2006 03:11 AM

Well Protransers also get boosted radius and effect on traps for whatever that's worth.

I also have to agree that Protransers will probably turn out to be a bit of a letdown. I understand that Sega was going for the whole "Jack-of-all-trades master of nothing", but I believe they're a bit too bland in a game that wont reward them for being so.

Now if they got half-priced traps, triple range, triple damge, level 10 techs and one or two S ranks, I'd be on board.

Oh, is anyone on now? I could go for a light 30 min to 1 hour workout.

Partisan of Lightening, and the twin weapon that drops in Whitil(Sec.ID) Ruins, Starts with an "M" ~ Meteor Cudgel? I used them all and the most useful was the Double Cannon(Twin lavis). Yes everyone and there mama had one and abused that fact the weapon category was unrivaled and unmatched and overpowered. You don't need no other weapon. Just double saber your butt through the areas.

I would like to bring the point up that the standard PSU fugly doublesaber that Lou uses is not the last of it. The True Crea Double is supposed to be superior and it looks exactly like the Twin Brand.

I am a bit confused by the "roles" of Wartecher and Protranser. Ok so which can be considered the "RDM" of PSU? I even thought about ditching my human char and going back to the my newman and throw out the idea of being a fortefighter and just settle for Wartecher(cause newmans get state bonus in it). But..errr 20PA, 10PA bullests, 20lvl techs. And Protranser is, ok forgive me, the class is fucked up. 8 thousand mission points away from feeling useful to a party. (Like RDM isn't jackall until 41 in FFXI~ sorry for throwing such a poor example in).

I have never seen a trap being used.

You're also missing Vivienne and Double Scythe.

Parn Dec 3, 2006 12:54 PM

Drop a Burn Trap G on Gol Dova, and watch the burn damage.

You'll change your mind about traps really quickly after that.

My bad lol. I didn't play that far into BB to know about those weapons.

Kalekkan Dec 3, 2006 01:48 PM

I had heavily considered Wartecher as a main in PSU for sometime. I believe their biggest uses will be in small groups or solo. So in a group that you don't have a healer and it's small, a Wartecher is a great addition. The Wartecher isn't so great at techs so for a majority of their time they'll be doing melee, and throw in heals when needed or when presented against a mob that is very weak against techs.

For solo, they should be awesome. With Dual Dagger PA they can do decent damage and regen their PP pretty fast. Then of course they can heal and remove status effects. So this would make them a bit less costly when it comes to solo compared to a Fortetecher who would have to expend larger amounts of PP to deal damage despite their PP cost bonus.

Double Cannon was most useful? Mind explaining that? The attack was much weaker than BKB if I recall correctly. The special attack wasn't as great as it was in PSO v1's Lavis Cannon. So what makes it better than BKB, or even MKB for that matter? Personally, I was a jack of all trades in EP 1/2. Most weapon classes were able to be overpowered through the use of that online mission to make your weapon attributes higher. All you really needed was a weapon with a high hit % bonus.

SailorDaravon Dec 4, 2006 12:13 AM

With the update coming Thursday night/Friday morning, I think I'm going to take a break until then. Right now I've got about 560k, plus I have some stuff I can sell, I'm hoping to wind up with about 600k Friday morning, which will be enough to get all the new stuff that I REALLY need/want. I've also got nearly all my bullet PAs to 20 that I want. Only ones I don't have to to 20 are Shock on my rifle (at 17), Fire on my rifle (at 1), Fire on my shotgun (at 7?), and Earth on my mechgun (at 15). I maaay also go Earth additionally on my twin handguns, but that's lower priority.

I don't want to burn myself out on the game, and I've been wanting to play something else to break it up, I'll probably finish Rocket Slime. Plus my hand is literally starting to hurt from playing as a Ranger, I really need to look into getting a rapid-fire controller, even if it sucks. I'll hop on briefly each night (and possibly in the morning) for minor shop management, and that's it. So no one look for me during the week, see you all Friday~

Para Dec 4, 2006 10:20 AM

I plan to spend most of my time feeding my new GH 440 until it actually evolves into a GH 440... im at like cast 100 something lol.

Hotobu Dec 4, 2006 11:39 AM

I just had a thought. (You)* We should try to go into business with each other. Para's raising a 100 armor PM, I'll EVENTUALLY get to 100 Ranged, and I'm sure some other folks are going for 100 Striking and Technic. We could just have each other synth stuff and sell it at our shops.

*I say you because I'm sure someone will get to 100 ranged before me as I'm going o n vacation for a full month.

SailorDaravon Dec 4, 2006 12:06 PM

I've had a 100 ranged PM for about 3 weeks now.
