Nope, that's about right. That's a damn good jump, if you ask me..

shadowlink56 May 19, 2006 06:14 PM

I heard a really great idea a while back that allowed many more characters into the game: Boss fights. Mario fighting Ridley or Mother Brain, Pikachu fighting Smithy, Ness fighting Ganon, and Link fighting Giygas, etc.
Better than those weird hands. While they were a decent challenge, they didn't feel very Nintendo-esque to me.
Of course, this would simply lead to people screaming they want to play as the bosses, just like they want to play as the sandbag.

I believe the Wii discs will be DL... so it's more like 9.4GB (Realistically about 8.8GB).

Furby May 19, 2006 09:26 PM

I thought the DL were 8.5 realistically???

I heard that they going with BlueRay...

BurningRanger May 19, 2006 11:07 PM

Sony = Blu-ray
MS = HD-DVD (eventually)
Wii = DVD9

Cool video of the trailer being shown to press and their reaction at youtube.
Tried to burry the excitement because it won't be out in a gazillion years, but this gets me fuzzy all over again.

EDIT: Also a (limited) character index is up: http://www.smashbros.com/en/characters/index.html

Darn, still no confirmation on whether suitless Samus replaces regular.

Everyone says that would be stupid, but it's not like they haven't done silly things before and there's already a lot of characters :(

FatsDomino May 20, 2006 11:42 AM

What I hope they do is character variants. Someone mentioned it earlier. Something like press X to change to a different style of the same character and press Y to change their color in the character selection menu. So pressing X will switch between regular Samus and Zero Suit Samus. Mario and Dr. Mario and FLUDD Mario and hell maybe Paper Mario or Baby Mario. Luigi and Vacuum Luigi and maybe Baby Luigi. Young Link and Wind Waker Link. Ganondorf and Sword Ganondorf and Ganon. Bowser and Gigabowser. All that by just press the X button and you can change their colors with Y. It's a pretty good system. Dunno if they'll use it but it seems like the most logical way to do it if you were to have multiple versions of a character to select and not clutter things up.

J-Man May 20, 2006 01:28 PM

The way you put it, Acer, each character would have one form that is clearly dominant over the other (Why the hell would you be Bowser when you could play as Giga Bowser, or Ganondorf or "Sword Ganondorf when you could use Ganon)?. Unless the seriously toned down and evened out all the different character suits, this could be kinda flawed.

FatsDomino May 20, 2006 01:32 PM

Well obviously they would have to be balanced. Some forms would be faster and weaker while others would be slower and stronger. I trust the team should they use any alternate forms to keep the balance. You should know this too.

OK here's confirmation:

They will not replace regular Samus with Zero Suit Samus. That would be stupid. Source: Me.

Inhert May 20, 2006 02:43 PM

and why? if you did really check the video, it seem that she fight with a "laser sword" in her zero suit...did Samus had a sword? no, so 2 different fighting style, I don't see why they can't put both of them....

Ryunam May 20, 2006 02:51 PM

Yeah, I think they'll end up putting both forms of the bounty hunter.
Though a teaser movie represents too little material to judge upon diverging battle-styles.

For all we know, Zero Suit Samus could unleash psychokinetic beams à la Mewtwo, just to compensate the lack of her trademark gun.

Lol, that would be amazing.....but yeah, they'd be better off keeping these guys separate instead of the "alternate costumes" as earlier pointed out, the balance would be completely thrown off if you could use a better version of a character over the original. Then again, they could implement it a la Street Fighter Aniversary Edition (or whatever it's called) where you can choose previous forms of these characters from Super Smash Bros. and SSBM. The reason why there was that people would have fun choosing a stock SSB character and wailing on the souped up SSBB or SSBM edition of the character. Plus, for all those people who complained that the Melee version of the character sucked in comparison to the original character (I'm mainly looking at Kirby here), they can choose the original if they wish. I dunno if it'll work, but it's a thought.

BTW, the move to DVD9 is great news, more room for more goodies.....sweet....

Apperently she wields a sword

Oh... Okay.

Edit: Point taken. I don't want to hear it.

Yeah really. In each new Metroid, the bonus images of Samus have more and more clothes. She's actually getting more tasteful each time.

But your hatred of Startropics renders your opinion null. Too bad.

kuttlas May 21, 2006 05:56 AM

Nevermind then, I never saw that ending. I don't have as much respect for the developers now that I know that.

God, can't you take a joke? Would I have used Mike Jones as an example of a good SSB character if I hated him so much?

Deguello May 21, 2006 06:19 AM

Oh come on, she didn't spend the whole game like that. She didn't destroy Mother Brain looking like that. This isn't DOA.

I don't understand why Nintendo always gets stuck with this shit. Nintendo is the KING of non-sexualized female roles. Or uhh... Queen. whatever.

Go pick on Square Enix and their meek and timid waifs.

Oh... Okay.

Speaking of Samus, does anyone else here find it irritating the new direction Samus has taken as of late? ...

Just to avoid any confusion, that quote was not by Ryunam.

Also, I think you're pretty alone in thinking that these games are not allowed to evolve or expand.

Sirmackerel May 21, 2006 08:14 AM

Pit's new design looks awesome. I know which new character I'n trying first.

'CAUSE IT WASN'T THE 1987, SCIENCE FICTION SURVIVAL HORROR. NO SIRREE. Who cares about that when you can play as a chick? REVOLUTION.

Letse here.
Zelda/Sheik
Captain Falcon
Fox Mcloud
Falco Lombardi
and Peach
All had zero attacks going into Smash Brothers. Furthmore you could argue that.
Dr Mario
Luigi
Donkey Kong
Ice Climbers
Bowser
Yoshi
Marth
and Roy
Had near complete movelists written. Wow what had Donkey Kong done previously? Smacked the ground? Ok thats ONE move. Bowser? I guess he breathed fire. Marth had a sword.
This leaves us with
Mario
The Pokemon
the Links
Ness
Mr. Game & Watch
Samus
Kirby
and Gannondorf
Who oringally had attacks. Nevermind that Gannondorfs was just Capt. Falcon's and didn't reflect him from the games at all. Ignore that Ness had to STEAL moves from other characters.

Your argument that a whole new movelist has to be made is poor. A better argument against Zero Suit Samus is that she is pissweak and should be an alternate costume.
