What SE needs to do is offically state if PS3 has exclusive rights to FFXIII or not. It's probably the most talked about thing next to MGS4.

Well, why? It wouldn't surprise me if they've seriously considered yanking exclusivity and have it show up later on the 360 with extras (like XIII International, without the International part). That way they can still get the visuals and story they like, and tap into both userbases since the PS3 is floundering behind the other two.

And we all know SE is all about that money.

Inhert May 10, 2007 11:40 AM

they already said that FFXIII and FFvsXIII are ps3 exclusives. It's the 3 new project that they might go multi-platform (not the "might", because they still don't know)

Eh, these days anything goes. SE's already made it clear they'll be supporting all three consoles this gen. Nothing to get defensive about, they're just trying to maximize how much money they can make.

Inhert May 10, 2007 11:48 AM

I'M not saying that SE will not go on the 360, they already did a game for it. I just answered the question if FFXIII and FFvsXIII are exclusive or not ....

Brief trailer summaries from SE party.

Final Fantasy XIII

- Shiva is summoned, by the mysterious male
- Shiva creates a passage of Ice for Lightning
- Shiva then becomes a motorcycle and the mysterious male gets on it.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII
- The Prince returns after the fight for the crystal, to see a new
white haired male, only his back, and his mouth is seen.
- The trailer ends with the Prince, and the new mysterious male
running at each other with swords!

HD screens of both Versus and FF13 were released. Knocked up some crappy wallpapers.

TGS 2007: Final Fantasy Fabula Nova Crystalis Trailer Impressions
A quick glance at the three 13's.

by Charles Onyett

September 19, 2007 - At TGS 2007 in a closed-doors trailer screening Square-Enix ran two incredibly detailed trailers for Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII, as well as one for Agito, the mobile version. FFXIII is the PS3-only RPG, and the footage shown was mostly CG, and it filled in some more details about the game world and the characters you'll likely play as. In addition to the gun wielding heroine we've seen in previous screens and footage, this new trailer revealed a brunette with a bow, some kind of cybernetic female that seemed to be partially comprised of water, and a guy with a cap that rides a motorcycle. As with most Square-produced CG sequences, there were a lot of close-ups on the characters as they smirked knowingly before launching into an attack.

Though the video started with the train sequence we've seen a few times now, it eventually revealed a stunning canyon vista where hulking dinosaur-like creatures lumbered in sparkling waters under what appeared to be a planet in the sky dripping ice. The little snippets of gameplay shown featured some fast-paced combat, showing what appeared to be a character turn order sequence in the top left of the screen. Few story details could be gleaned from the trailer, except that it will again involve crystals. But such a notion is already built into the title. No release date was given.

The Versus trailer had less of an epic presentation, but was still impressive. It featured the grey-haired main character descending a staircase outside a stately looking building in a dismal metropolis. He was getting shelled by armored guards at the bottom of the steps but deflecting their bullets with some kind of magical shield. Cut between the action sequence where he decisively sliced them all up with his sword were scenes with a white robed sage overseeing some kind of magical device, and a sword-wielding female character dressed in a skirt. Also shown was a male character in a vest armed with a short gun. He and the grey-haired character appeared to be comrades, as they took a car trip together out of the city into a desert wasteland featured near the trailer's end. No gameplay was shown during the demo, but it did flash a line of text, "this is a fantasy based on reality," whatever that means. Again, no release date.

For Agito, a CG trailer showed a student at some kind of fantastical school activating a crystal-powered device, which subsequently exploded. The trailer was brief, but it appears to incorporate a large host of students as playable characters.
The "cybernetic woman" the article is refering to is the "2 Shivas" by the way.

The TGS trailer also confirms that the game is PS3 exclusive and even in this week's Famitsu Nomura confirms that both FFXIII and Versus are PS3 exclusive because it's more efficient for the team to focus on one console rather than others even if it'll disappoint some.

Jujubee Sep 27, 2007 06:16 PM

Has anyone been able to rip that beautiful song from the Vs XIII trailer yet? I'd really like to have that song without all the background noise.

Jujubee Oct 17, 2007 05:29 PM

*bump*

According to Game Informer magazine, theres two new trailers for Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII. The screenshots in the article were new (to me at least) so I was wondering if anyone has more info on this? Theres no new updates on either game, not since May.

Minoko Nov 23, 2007 10:50 PM

They have been really quiet about the new trailers. I found another trailer in youtube (YouTube - Final Fantasy Versus XIII TGS 2007 Trailer).
Its less than 10 seconds. Just the spikey-haired-butt-kicker fighting and then teleporting back to the entrance. I am a bit surprised no one was able to "film" a copy during the SQUENIX party. Guess security was tight. These also is one of FFXIII just Lightning fighting a bunch of robot soldiers.

dtpena Nov 28, 2007 09:41 PM

Nomura confirmed Last week this is a PS3 exclusive, I'll update soon with the source, but they're programming with HDD and BRD capacity in mind, so it won't be port-able

Final Fantasy XIII/13 ~ FF-XIII.net

This site has two BRAND NEW trailers up for veiwing. And no, its not just 5 seconds of new footage.

Inhert Dec 15, 2007 12:21 PM

wow I have to say that the trailer for versus XIII was far more interesting than the FFXIII one. (even if the vsXIII was just a longer version of the last one)

one thing I noticed in FFXIII trailer is the animation didn't seem very smooth sometimes, but we are still very early in development so I suppose it will change. There seem to have a lot of CG or it's me that failed to notice which part was in real time or not XD.

I have a feeling that FFXIII will not have a lot of main hero. From the trailer it seem like Lightning was mainly a solo mercenary or something, until that other guy arrive on the Shiva bike XD

I really want to know more about gameplay for both title though.

Am I the only one who found the FFvsXIII trailer to be more "violent" than we are use to be a in Final Fantasy title? (with the neck breaking and sword piercing) Not that it bother me, it just seemed odd a little.

and I just can't wait till they release a full version of that song in the FFvsXIII trailer >.<

Zeta26 Dec 15, 2007 04:08 PM

Well, Nomura did say that this production was gonna be more darker. Than his Kingdom Hearts works. Which centered on a lighter theme. And that he reflected on today's war. Which Versus XIII came about.

SouthJag Dec 15, 2007 04:58 PM

I tried to view the trailer and it crashed Firefox. :/ I'll see if Youtube has a link up, or maybe gametrailers.

Metal Sphere Dec 15, 2007 05:09 PM

Damn, you're right about versus XIII looking much more interesting than FFXIII proper, Inhert. Hopefully it improves considerably in all areas, because that was underwhelming.

It was queer as fuck. A ridiculosuly brooding, apathetic-looking guy taking out armoured bad dudes while performing unnecessary acrobatics with opera music in the background, wow just wow.

Bwa-ha-ha, the trailer actually ends with him sitting in his lonely, depressing chair, deep in thought as to how better to convey his inner darkness -- red contact lenses, check; hair dyed gray, check; black combat boots, check; hmm, what to do next? Oh, it seems that it's time for a trip in my black futuromobile to Hot Topic to get some lip piercings!

1. Right-Click -> Save As.
2. Download Movie, View.
3. ????
4. Profit!

My thoughts on the trailers: I've always kind of wanted a Modern-ish RPG, and Versus XIII seems like it might deliver on that aspect. FFXIII's trailer finally gives us a good look at the Shiva summon, and overall on battle speed & progression.

I may have to get a PS3 at some point, this game looks interesting. However, final judgment will of course be based on a Demo or at least Gameplay footage. Some of the architecture of FFXIII reminded me of FFXII's Ivalice and VersusXIII reminded me of FFVIII a bit. Specifically Deling City. I want to see in-game footage now, but I bet it will be a while before that happens.

SouthJag Dec 15, 2007 05:40 PM

Eh, I tried that but I couldn't get the download to start. Whatever, GameTrailers ftw.

Still more excited about FFXIII over Versus XIII. Versus XIII makes me wanna rhythmically cut myself to Linkin Park when I watch the trailer, but FFXIII has me really excited. Definitely a great trailer to check out. On GameTrailers.

valiant Dec 15, 2007 05:55 PM

Verses XIII was merely an extended version of the first trailer so it wasn't as interesting. Though XIII looks promising, that hyped me up a little bit. Still, not convincing enough to make me rush out to get a PS3 yet XD

Haha, oh lord. :tpg:

Looking at the FFXIII trailer again, I'm wondering if they have the same folks doing the backdrops as they did in FFX.

yeah that's what I thought when I saw the first trailer last year ^^
