I'm really liking how Diddy plays. I just wish he didn't die from smashes so easily. Damn these light characters! But he's too fast.

I also like Luigi and Peach, because they basically play exactly the same as they did in SSBM, and were two of my old standbys.

Indeed. :tpg:

LMAO
I guess you should stay away from the dub anime too. Strange that they sound alike but are not voiced by the same person.

Just gone done with some matches with Kagosin. Spiking with Falco is still as fun as ever.

I tried all the combination and none of them work. Then I tried 4339-2178-3086 and it registered. So that's your code IdleChill... hopefully... :tpg:

Got Brawl yesterday, and I've been playing it non-stop. I've used Lucas most of the time (His up-smash is probably one of my favorite moves, along with PK Thunder[2] and the Rope Snake.), and I've cleared about 30% of the Subspace Emissary (Too busy playing VS. matches. xD).

Missing about five characters (I think they're Toon Link, Wolf, Ganondorf, R.O.B. and Mr. Game and Watch), and a few stages.

Christ... I'm 30% through SSE and I've only unlocked Falcon and Marth. I'm definitely missing something here :(

Dark Nation Mar 10, 2008 05:01 PM

I know you'll get A character if you beat Classic mode once (For me that was Luigi), but as for other non-SSE methods of getting characters, I don't know.

Oh and R.O.B., G&W, Ganondorf, Lucas and a few others have already been unlocked by me, in fact I'd say a lot of them.

Oh and I'll be seeing about online stuff later this week, FC and all that.

FatsDomino Mar 10, 2008 05:01 PM

Play SSE on normal with a friend. It's difficulty is the right amount and you should get through the game well enough. Took us about 8 hours or so to beat SSE and unlock all characters. Now we're going back through the stages that we missed stuff on easy to get 100% completion. Some stages just confuse the hell out of me on what we're missing because we've searched every nook and cranny we can find. I'm guessing you have to be a certain character on those stages or something. It's really weird.

Nah, he probably unlocked a bunch of characters from playing vs. matches. You can unlock everyone from SSE, but I think the vast majority of them came after 40% for me.

Is it just me, or is the computer better at brawl? It still has ridiculous suicides occasionally, but when I'm fighting a level 9, I definitely feel like I have a lot less room for fucking around. Right now Olimar and Marth seem to be the only characters I can use really competently, but I'm trying to get used to Wario for hilarities sake. Oh and am I the only one who prefers the Wiimote-Nunchuck option? You lose out on no real functionality (there's no smash button, but I never used that in melee anyway) and I find it a lot more comfortable having my hands able to hold the controller in two pieces.

I gave Wifi mode a shot earlier today and I found myself unable to find any opponents. I would sit in the lobby for the 45 seconds, it would go to map selection and I'd sit in a map by myself, awfully exciting. Has anyone had any luck playing online anonymously (ie not with friend codes)?

EDIT: Answered my own question with that last point. Apparently it's not that no one's playing online anonymously, it's that the servers are down because there are too many. That's reassuring.

I'm not 100% sure myself but I do also feel like some of the stages have some areas where a certain character will need to be used, usually someone who can get really high up, like a Kirby or so. Might be just my lack of jumping skills but that I how I felt in a few areas as I've been going through SSE.

Wall Feces Mar 10, 2008 05:09 PM

Level 9s put up a decent fight still, though it didn't seem any harder than Melee.

I think I'm going to restart SSE and do it on normal... It's taking me too long to go through it on hard. I'll just pick up the hard game from where I left off after I do it on normal.

FatsDomino Mar 10, 2008 05:11 PM

Nooooooooooooooooooooo. Don't restart. Just set it to normal the next time you start a level. SSE doesn't care what difficulty you do it on. It doesn't care at all.

It's definitely possible it's just my imagination as I haven't played all that many matches as completing SSE took up most of my time with the game so far. I've gotta say though, I'm loving this game a lot more than I did melee. I'm an N64 smash fan and this one seems a lot more like a progression from that type of gameplay than melee.

Oh and about SSE, I noticed that the characters which generally gave me the easiest time in SSE were the heavier characters. King Deedee/Wario simply laid waste to everyone in sight. They were also a blast to use; I would just drive back and forth on Wario's motorcycle and let my friend do all the work.

For those of you who've played online, how is it?

Thanks for giving me the idea to put a 6 at the end. It didn't even cross my mind. Anyway, my correct number is:

4339-2173-3086 my nick is Idle, naturally.

You may delete that other number and add this one if you like. LOL

Thanks, BigCN!

Sousuke Mar 10, 2008 06:11 PM

I'm about 45% through SSE, and I've so far unlocked C. Falcon, Marth, and Falco. I've unlocked Falcon, Ness, Luigi, and Lucario via main Brawl matches as well.

Hey, Chaotic-- About your post for unlocking Toon Link, Wolf, et al... Do you have to have beaten SSE before they appear? I found the door in The Forest [I think the one you're talking about, anyway] and there's just an item box and a fire bumper-thing. Haven't tried the others yet.

Pretty much.

At least 5 stages require either Pit or someone else who can get as high in the air as him.

For other things missing, you have to think outside the box. Some things are VERY last minute (meaning if you don't grab it then you miss it forever*, but if you take too long you will be killed by the stage) and you can't see them on the screen so explore the unknown >_>

Yes you do. When you find the proper door it will be a 1vs1 battle against that person (after their introduction) with whoever you are currently controlling, on their stage. After you are done the level you were playing ends and you unlock them if you win.

*Until you restart the stage and try again, anyway.

Can I also comment on how EPIC and WELL-DIRECTED all the cut-scenes are? I nearly creamed when Meta Knight and Marth went at it!

Omnislash124 Mar 10, 2008 06:48 PM

I'm somewhere between 40% and 50% through SSE and I've unlocked (from SSE) Marth, Captain Falcon, Snake, Falco, Lucario, and Game & Watch (I think that's it). I got Luigi and Ness from Brawls. There might be some that I'm forgetting, but from what I remember, I have these characters. I don't find SSE to be that hard, but then again, I'm playing on Normal. I still need a continue on a few sections (like the maze in the research facility) but it wasn't terribly difficult.

I remember one evil trick they did, where they started you off in the air with a trophy falling beside you, and made you think you could just get to the ground to get it, only to find it dropping into a pit. Maybe I was the only one who fell for that, but it pissed me off. I've only completed (got 100%) a few places on the SSE map so far. Some I know I missed (like I flew over them or something), some others, I had no idea what I missed. Maybe if I got a buddy to co-op with me, it'd be easier spotting stuff. I'd have to wonder how the rocket barrels work for co-op though.

That was an awesome cutscene, and the one after it when Ike shows up, that was ridiculous. They also seem to have a good amount of humor put in too (with certain characters), namely Diddy Kong and Fox/Falco. I kind of wish they talked or something during the cutscenes though, but I suppose you can't have everything.

StarmanDX Mar 10, 2008 06:48 PM

1676-3386-8913. None of my usual aliases could fit in five spaces, so I went with Godot.

Just finished SSE and Events 1-41 today, so I'm pretty sick of solo unlocking stuff at the moment. Ready for some Brawlin'.

nazpyro Mar 10, 2008 06:52 PM

Finally, naz has a friend code: 2578-2821-7619. Everyone on the wiki page will be added soon. BRAWL later, kthx.

PS - Check out my upcoming CJ entry for my SMASH WAIT adventure.

Kimchi Mar 10, 2008 07:03 PM

Okay, something is wrong guys.

I unlocked every character expect Toon link now... obviously i finished SE, and finished Classic on Link.... wut the !@#$ am I doing wrong?

StarmanDX Mar 10, 2008 07:07 PM

Probably doesn't actually work.

Spoiler:
Just go to "The Forest" in SSE and go in the first door you see.

Mine was hardly an adventure since basically I went up at 9PM and hung out with the girls at GameStop and we went out to eat. Although it was fun being inside the store playing while some fat fucks drooled outside.

Then I just sat inside playing Pokemon with the girls until Midnight and hung out til close. NO ADVENTURE FOR ME.

But for those who are wondering about character unlocks, there are multiple methods for some of them, so basically try a little bit of everything to unlock them.

Animechanic Mar 10, 2008 07:18 PM

My main objective has been unlocking characters reasonably quickly using non-SSE methods, but not just spamming brawls either.

So I got Ness and Marth from brawling with some friends on launch night,
Luigi and Captain Falcon from classic mode,
and Falco and Lucario from doing challenges (100-man brawl and clear Target smash level 5).

Not bad considering I am only like, 8% in SSE (had to work on Sunday, bleh).

Also, I really hope they fix the troubles with Wifi play. Me and a friend tried a 1V1 and it would alternate between periods of unplayable lag and perfectly fine. Rather annoying.
