Well they could use the translation from the PAL version to translate the Japanese version for NA release? >_>

That's just wishful thinking though. :(

oh-hoh, turnabout is fairplay, no?

I've never tried myself but I heard Nintendo's handhelds have always been that way. Why not console games? It would be nice to be able to play games that companies don't feel worth releasing here without modding a system or importing another version of a system you already have.

I thought the reason it happened was because Europe didn't get PSPs until late. And importing a PSP was a cheaper method and was killing SCEE's business because of this. PSP and the DS are both region free, yes.

Why not console games? It's pretty much the same reason as all other region encoded reasons. Licensing, classification labels, publishers. Although that won't matter at all if you have a PS3 since their (non-existent) games are region free.

I like how VC games aren't region free though. I mean what the fuck?

Ah well, we don't KNOW that par-cé, seeing as the option to try such a thing hasn't presented itself.

Are these limited-time offers in NA also then? (I don't have my wireless connection set up to get this Wii-thingies currently.)

FatsDomino Oct 4, 2007 06:56 PM

Downloading Sin & Punishment right now. I'm running out of space and I haven't even filled up all the channel slots. This is such bullshit. Nintendo really needs to release a fucking harddrive or allow us to play our downloads off of SD cards. It takes fucking forever to download this stuff in the first place for me. I don't want to have to re-download so I'm going to have to put some of my VC downloads on a 2 GB SD card.

Additional Spam:
And holy fuck does it take forever to transfer these to SD Card. This is unacceptable. Why is it magically 1000 times slower than normal copy and paste use from a computer? This is just retarded. I wonder how slow it is transferring them from the SD card to the Wii.

YOU CAN SHOOT IN FOUR DIRECTIONS.

Er, anyway yeah. It's probably because the Wii is in the "800 mhz celeron" zone and your computer is way above that.

Virtual Console feels irrelevant now that I have a 4000 roms-in-1 DVD for the Wii. Because well, paying for roms is stupid. And paying for roms of games you already own is just ridiculous unless they're incredible games which you feel deserve your TOEJAM AND EARL 1 respect.

Why buy Streets of Rage 2 on the Wii, when you can buy it on Xbox Live which has multiplayer? I'll still most likely buy VC games still but only if they bring new material in, since Aus/NZ never received TurboGrafx stuff, or Neo Geo stuff. Or stuff like EARTHBOUND. I think all of the PAL VC games are in 50Hz. -_-

FatsDomino Oct 4, 2007 09:17 PM

I'm basically only doing it for favorites and new stuff as well.

God damn Sin & Punishment can be infuriating at times. Going left and right and jumping while locking on is piss hard. I got killed by the beast on top of the building like 3 times before I figured out if something gets near you and you press the fire button you instead shank whatever is in front of you. Here I am rapid firing the entire time and I only randomly discover that. After the awesome flying floor versus the navy sequence I'm stuck at the bomb dropping from the sky to destroy the giant. I don't get it. I lock on almost immediately, blow the fuck out of it, then when it gets near me I slice the shit out of it, AND it's STILL not destroyed thus making the giant punch it and blow up. After five tries I've declared it impossible and given up. You just don't have enough fire power to beat the bloody thing before it falls. I feel I've probably reached the greatest part of the game and I'm giving up until I get some sound advice that doesn't leave my hands flailing like a giraffe attempting to walk with roller skates.

Conan-the-3rd Oct 5, 2007 02:10 AM

For the knock back sword thing: That is what the tutorial mode is for, it's all explained rather nicely in there.

Secondly, uh, (and this is coming from someone who's going though it in Easy mode to start with so I duno if Treasure's legendry difficulty issues are just biting you one in the ass) For 3-3 (isn't it? It's the last of lv 3 in any case, the final sword fight in lv 2 was epic though) AFIK your doing it right, shot the crap out of it (I recomend using manual mode and keepign up with it with the aim stick as genearly speeking you want to do as much damage as possible) and then keep with it and slice it wonce it gets in range.

MrMonkeyMan Oct 5, 2007 11:12 AM

DON'T USE THE LOCK-ON SHOT. It is much weaker than the standard shot. And, you know, beat the crap out of that missile with your sword when you're right up close. When you hear that beep sound it means you're close enough to something that you can hit with your sword.

FatsDomino Oct 5, 2007 11:38 AM

Okay, this sounds like very good advice. Serves me right for not going through the tutorial. I'll try this the next time I start playing again. Thanks. =)

MrMonkeyMan Oct 5, 2007 01:07 PM

Wait until you unlock turbo mode and frameskip before you complain the game is too hard.

Slash Oct 5, 2007 01:14 PM

Must buy S&P now...

God I'm going to be so fucking broke ><

FatsDomino Oct 5, 2007 01:16 PM

Well, it seems he also got owned by that falling piece of crap too so I dunno. >=I

MrMonkeyMan Oct 5, 2007 01:19 PM

That was me :(

It was only my 2nd attempt. I can beat it on easy with turbo and frameskip, but normal is hard and hard is ridiculous.

List of Virtual Console games (Europe) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Can someone explain what the "PAL conversion issues" are?

Infernal Monkey Oct 6, 2007 02:27 AM

Hmm, judging by the Mega Drive list being one huge 'yes', I think they mean the borders + slow music and stuff. The typical PAL crap. Lots of Nintendo and all of the TG-16 games on the VC have been altered to run in full screen with sped up music (to match the NTSC versions), despite them still being PAL. Sega are lazy, so all their VC games have the massive borders and stuff found on the original PAL Mega Drive.

The short of it is that it's relitvely easy for Ninty to just go "NSTC ROMS, NAO" and just nip a problem they've had with PAL conversion in the bud but they decided they knew what was best, hence we're stuck with a nerfed up Sonic 1 and verious other issues.
Nintendo know thier audiance, and it's unfortunate there's a small few technonianthals that con't understand the importance of NSTC/60hz complyance and just want to play Fifa 97 all day.
Casual Gamers are the cancer that is killing good techincal practices.

Sin and Punsihment, cuz that doesn't HAVE a nefed PAL cart, runs full 60hz.
Nether does any of Rare's work cuz they were optimized for 50hz and all the PC Engine games were converted at runtime so they run at full speed to.

Elixir Oct 6, 2007 03:07 AM

Yeah I might actually buy Sin and Punishment because it isn't a fucked up available download. Er, I mean it's actually a download worth purchasing, since I don't have a N64-to-USB adapter and I heard it doesn't run properly on PCs, and I don't have any other way of playing it and may as well make some use of my classic (unloved) controller. Unfortunately for some other games I'd be interested in, ie Landstalker, however, are fucked up. Which is a shame because it's a really awesome game.

Oh well, back to my 4000-in-1 DVD which has Landstalker in 60Hz.

According to IGN, the Neo Geo will make its debut this monday on the US VC. Fatal fury, Art of Fighting and World Heroes will be available for 900 points each.

What Neo Geo games would you guys want to see available in the future?
The King of Fighters series would be my choice. Good thing they're releasing a compilation soon.

chato Oct 8, 2007 11:29 AM

This week belongs to SNK

Art of Fighting
Fatal Fury : King of Fighters
World Heroes

Some call it hideous, others call it classic. I sure as hell won't order any of them. Art of fighting was fun but not enough. Fatal Fury is another garbage ass game with only 3 characters. Don't even bother with World Heroes.

Summonmaster Oct 8, 2007 11:58 AM

The art in Art of Fighting sort of was, and still is sort of unsettling, eg. King's lose screen. I'd prefer Fatal Fury 2 over Fatal Fury, as well as World Heroes 2 for the hilarious stage hazards and Mudman and Ryoko if anything.

I might have bought these at 700 points each, but the extra 200 for older versions of SNK games where the sequels are funnier, and will probably be released is raising doubts.

FatsDomino Oct 8, 2007 12:02 PM

As cool as this is WHERE ARE MY AWESOME SNES GAMES, NINTENDO? Seriously, at least one awesome SNES game should be released every week. You are dealing with fucking roms and an instruction manual here. It isn't hard.

Also, lack of good storage and rumble and memory in N64 games is still pissing me off.

Lukage Oct 8, 2007 02:54 PM

See, Nintendo didn't expect us to actually buy these games, so they don't care about our concerns for our SIXTEEN KILOBYTE HARD DRIVE not being enough. Also, if they're going to give us Neo-Geo, why not start with something epic?

Conan-the-3rd Oct 12, 2007 02:49 AM

I thought the wii ran on Flash Memory.
