They deviated from the novels? How?

Kilroy Sep 18, 2007 10:08 AM

Will do. However, I'm still under a NDA, so I can't discuss the plot in any way. I just wanted to hear how the plot deviates from the books, seeing as the books hasn't described what happens with Chief after Halo 2. Perhaps Sexninja talks about Ghosts of Onyx?

Paco Sep 18, 2007 11:28 AM

I know no one has started posting secrets from the ending or anything but just to be on the preventative side I'm with Crunchy here: If anyone wants to spoil the game for themselves, that's cool but if you do it here without spoiler tags, rest assured that you will have signed yourself a thread ban.

Grundlefield Earth Sep 18, 2007 12:32 PM

Man I would just give a forum ban. Why even lie.

I still got the Legendary edition preordered, but don't know if I want to spend that much money. I preordered it when it was like 90 bucks. =0

I'd be OK with a forum ban if I could do it myself but, alas, we are stuck with mere thread bans.

Sexninja Sep 19, 2007 02:51 AM

No i am not spoiling, i just provided the link, click if you like.
I might as well wait for discussing one bit i read, contradicting the story above.
Story apart there are some things in game way too generic.

Aardark Sep 19, 2007 05:32 AM

So not quite as good as Nintendogs, eh?

I guess it's because a Grunt still isn't as cute as a Dachshund... But at least you can knock the methan tank of them:edgarrock:

Making some fancy stats aggregators possible. Hurray.

So appearantly some ASSCLOWN leaked the game - Microsoft already issued a statement that they wont ban people who play it early.

Anybody tried the leaked version?

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Sep 20, 2007 02:14 PM

Zeal has, and Tube was downloading it last I heard.

They probably won't ban people right off the hop because there's a lot of legitimate cases of the street date being broken, and that's really not the fault of the buyer in question.

I'd imagine they'd still ban people for the act of stealing and modding, though. They don't want people doing that, regardless of what game it is.

Also, impressions are great, from what I've read on the tubes. But keep it spoiler free, assholes.

evilboris Sep 21, 2007 06:00 AM

Yah, looks like Microsoft retracted their statement and WILL ban accounts.

Disconnecting from the net doesnt solve that either cause they can check your "what-games-you-played" list.

El Ray Fernando Sep 21, 2007 07:06 AM

I was going to order the game from Argos in the UK which leaked the game in several stores yesterday for folks to come pick it up, but I ordered it from Virgin Megastores because it was £5 cheaper plus free delivery :( .

But from what I've read doing a search on google of the few that have it the response has been positive.

EDIT: Also LoL at dropping tanks on people.

OmagnusPrime Sep 21, 2007 07:09 AM

New ViDoc has been released, focusing on the save films and Forge, and my word it looks sweet fucking as. I can't wait to play this game and fuck about with stuff (I have a feeling dropping tanks on Tails could turn out to be the most satisfying experience on Earth).

Linky - Halo 3 ViDoc: Cinema Paradiso - Xbox

Kairi Li Sep 21, 2007 08:28 AM

Ok. Was never really into FPS games, but that video above defintly sold me. Forge + save films = heaven.

Hell this can also help people in making Machinima, imagine the possiblities now...

The level of customization in the battlegrounds is intense and detailed.

When Halo 3 is out, I like to request that people upload or link to videos of people doing awesome things on forge. Ranging from unique kills to just random shit, or some insane stunt involving the warthog and man cannons.

Now to get a Gold account...

Tagonist Sep 21, 2007 02:23 PM

Okay, so I just ordered an X360.
Should I get me Halo 3 now, or first play through the first two...?

Megalith Sep 21, 2007 02:27 PM

Play the first one, burn the second one, and get the matches ready for the third.

Definitely play the first one, it's still a phenomenal videogame.

I enjoyed 2 for most part, but it's nowhere near as enjoyable and well designed as 1, a tad too many levels I don't want to replay, ever.

evilboris Sep 21, 2007 05:44 PM

The first is pretty damn awesome and has tons of replay value. Single player mode is excellent and epic, even with all the backtracking. I mean it features one of the most repetitive levels ever made in gaming (The Library) but its still excellent and fun - and very memorable. It's a cross between very oldschool fps game with nextgen control system, and the AI is very, very good. Also, hard mode is not hard because you take more damage, but because the AI is so brilliant.

The second is mostly aimed at hardcore people, single player mode is nowhere near as fun and most extras only come out in legendary mode (which is plain ridiculous - halo 1 was fair in that mode, halo 2 kills you in 2 shots). Multiplayer is much better though, but I'm guessing that nobody will play it in multi now that 3 is out.

edit: I must say though, that I'm on the border of grabbing a x360 as well, I'm not waiting 6 years till they port halo 3 to pc (played halo 1-2 on that).

Just like how everyone stopped playing UT99 when 2k4 came out, eh? It won't die, by any stetch. You'll lose players but it's pretty safe to assume there will be people on H2 until they shut the servers down.

No, but they stopped playing UT2k3.

I think it would be fairer to say people won't stop playing Halo 1 (multiplayer and campaign) with 3 out~

But yeah, people will still play H2, just like people keep playing older versions of Counter-Strike (ooh, did I just go there).

Gametrailers.com - Halo 3 - Review HD

HALO 2.5 confirmed. Fucking laughable.

Tube Sep 23, 2007 06:14 PM

Almost everything that ruined Halo 2 has been fixed in Halo 3. I couldn't believe it either, but the game is practically flawless. Campaign is actually playable this time around, with incredible replay value, and they somehow led off the terrible Halo 2 storyline and turned it around into something amazing.

Any Halo fan who was disappointed with 2 will be playing 3 for quite some time, so long as they aren't blind/deaf/mentally instable. The new features Halo 3 brings to the table will set the standard for the FPS genre. The interfacing between bungie.net and your copy of Halo 3 are ridiculously awesome. That's one thing Halo 2 got right, but now it is several times better, recording even stats of your campaign games down to how many Wraiths you killed in a given session. Forge provides hilarious multiplayer experiences, and is even great for just messing around with solo. And with saved films you can relive it all. 2 megabytes will save your entire 45 minute campaign level/multiplayer match and give you complete camera and time control. Pause, take a screenshot, upload it to bungie.net, save as wallpaper, owned.

Multiplayer is extremely well-balanced and so far nearly lag-free, even in 4-player co-op. Netcode has clearly been significantly improved since Halo 2. Who knows how this will change when all 9999 million people sign in on the 25th, but so far I'm very impressed. The whole game is just completely solid.

I will even list every complaint I have with it just to show how nitpicky it gets:
-Melee animations are awful (Halo 2 style).
-One glitch that sometimes makes the skull on "The Storm" disappear.
-Campaign lasts only about 12 hours on normal. Yet it is obviously is infinitely more enjoyable than Halo 2's 13 hour campaign.
-Not as much new music as I was hoping for, although it all is still fantastic.
-Warthog physics were not brought back to Halo 1 style because noobs can't control it.

Other than those few small issues, the game is perfect. Just finishing the last level of the game will make you appreciate that Bungie somehow listened to fans' complaints and took action accordingly. Gay boss fights are gone, sword no longer incredibly cheap, environments are once again expansive and amazing just to look at, etc etc etc. PS3 has already shut down the majority of its manufacturing plants. Pack it up, AssZone 2. The fight is finished.

10/10.
