Cynthia's Garchomp knows Earthquake, but had only 25% life left and Cynthia had already used a Full Restore on it after my Alakazam did some work. My Empoleon knows Brine and had about 80% life left. But the Garchomp's speed was higher, so it got first attack. Naturally, it struck with Earthquake. If my Empoleon fainted, it was game-set-match. If my Empoleon survived, it'd finish off the Garchomp with a powered-up Brine.

Empoleon clung to life with about 15HP left, and counterattacked for the victory. Closest finish I've ever had in the final battle.

My team:
Empoleon - Lvl. 64
Machamp - Lvl. 58
Alakazam - Lvl. 56
Luxray - Lvl. 63
Gengar - Lvl. 55
Staraptor - Lvl. 49

I then went and opened up the National Dex, accessed Pal Park and grabbed my first set of six from Emerald. I'm now finding out what's so darned important in Snowpoint City.

Once Merv gets the wi-fi properties working correctly - or I just go get a wi-fi USB adaptor - I'll post my Friend Code and battle people.

Question: Once you get the National Dex can you start catching more than the original 150 in the game? Or do you have to import EVERYTHING from the older games that isn't in the Sinnoh Pokedex?

Final Fantasy Phoneteen May 8, 2007 01:15 AM

The PokeRadar allows you to catch a bunch of pokemon not in the Sinnoh dex (Ralts, Torkoal). It's not a ton, so yeah, most from older generations need to be transferred or traded.

Sousuke May 8, 2007 02:18 AM

I've been doing a ton of breeding, so I have a bunch of eggs up for grabs. If anyone wants one [or more], let me know. I've got...

Spiritombs, Eevees, Larvitar, Phiones, Gibles, and can breed pretty much any of the starters. Just drop me a line and I'll see what I can do.

~100 pokemon are available to catch in some form in the game, although a majority of them you have to PokeRadar or Swarm to find - which is very time consuming and annoying. Some of these are exclusive to D/P. This does not include their evolved forms that are not catchable, so the list probably grows to ~120ish, but on one version it is around ~110

~28 more are version exclusive only. By that I do not mean D/P, I mean the game you have inserted into the GBA Slot. There are 5 GBA games that are compatible with D/P (Ru/Sa/E/LG/FR) that allow pokemon to appear in certain areas.

The remaining ~220 you have to import from Pal Park (or trade via Wi-Fi for em).

I just recently beat the elite four and it was pretty damn hard. Here are my stats after winning:

Golem Lv.53
Staraptor Lv.59
Torterra Lv.51
Machamp Lv. 52
Pachirisu Lv.53
Bibarel Lv.25 (LOL)

I only used Pachirisu for ONE fight, and it didn't even survive long enough for me to faint the other pokemon. The main reason I even won is because of Staraptor's strong ATK stat. I seriously didn't think that it'd be this good. Then again, I would not have won if I didn't use like 16 Revives. I also used about 25 Hyper Potions to survive every freakin' Lucario attack. I totally lucked out because he never got a critical hit on me. I really only had 4 Pokemon that could actually fight so I guess I should have leveled that Abra...

Though R/S is easier, I thought it was pretty funny because I used only one pokemon to defeat the Elite Four. All my others were super-underleveled.

Friend brought this to my attention before it was deleted.

I'd still like a Draipon(sp?) though. Can't be arsed to find one myself.

All you pretty much have to do is see it the Pokemon to see if anyone is offering it there... I traded a Pikachu and got a Gible. :|

Seriously, just wrangle up a bunch of Pikachu and put them up for trade. You will get ANYTHING you want.

Freelance May 8, 2007 04:30 PM

Well yeah, of course, but I thought we could
offer anything once you got the National Dex, which would have been a great feature for those who don't have the GBA games and therefore can't use Pal Park. That was why I was willing to transfer a nice Charmander over for an equally rare Draipon (they're always hard to catch in the Safari Zones).

GTS would have been infinitely better if we could ask for anything we needed.

Chaotic May 8, 2007 05:05 PM

We can, actually.

The search isn't restricted to D/P Pokemon. After the National Dex is obtained, it expands on what you can find in the GTS. I uploaded a couple of my starters from FireRed, and now I can search for them.

As I said, put up a Pikachu, you could save the Charmander or something more valuable. As long as the Pokemon you're looking for can breed, they're not hard to obtain, so people can throw it away at their heart's content.

I don't have any kanto starters to trade you but I do have that shiny stone if you want your Roselia to evolve =o. I have no idea what you can trade me in return so consider it a freebie!

...Actually! If you have diamond version would you mind trading the fossil that's exclusive in your version?

LS May 8, 2007 07:10 PM

What fossil would you want?

Kairyu May 8, 2007 07:22 PM

I think it's called a Skull Fossil. Not totally sure on that but I assume Cranidos can be resurrected from it. If you have it, cool! If not, I'll give ya a shiny stone anyway!

LS May 8, 2007 07:54 PM

Hmm, add me to your pad pal, i'll add you in a jiff, See you in 15 minutes.

Additional Spam:
Lol kairyu let me load up the item, =D

Haha, alright thanks for the trade LS! I'll put this Skull Fossil to good use :3.

Freelance May 9, 2007 10:20 AM

is there anyway to get more Reaper Cloths? Wild monsters hold items like King's Rock to make more Slowkings if needed, but what about poor Dusclops? I'm planning on adding one to my future team and as far as I know, there's only 1 Reaper Cloth in the entire game. What if I screw up my Dusky and need to make another one?

Final Fantasy Phoneteen May 9, 2007 10:44 AM

Trade a rare pokemon for it?

It might be something Pick Up can find, like Dawn Stones.

Freelance May 9, 2007 10:57 AM

Nobody would trade one if they want a Dusknoir.
It's not a pick-up item either, boo.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen May 9, 2007 11:35 AM

Trading requires bartering skills and far-sightedness.

Someone would trade it to you if they get something that is equally (or more) valuable than the stone in return and had no interest in raising a Dusknoir for their party, because that value would be enough to trade up with a desperate person, or trade down for more nice-but-lesser things. I was able to acquire all three starters with just a Kadabra to start.

Think of it like the draft in the NFL.

Freelance May 9, 2007 02:20 PM

Some people may want to keep the item to complete the Pokédex, even if they don't plan on using a Dusky.

I have lots of Shiny Stones, Dusk Stones and Dawn Stones from my item-hoarding Linoones, along with a Claw Fossil and Old Amber :3

I dunno. It kinda sucks that you can get as much Magmaboosters, King's Rocks, and Electrizer whatevers but there's only one Reaper Cloth. Same goes for Razor Claws, but don't quote me on that.

I seem to be complaining a tad too much over the last several posts :(

You can pick up Leftovers! Didn't know that.

I have no clue what I'm gonna have in my team still :( I only got my Dusky so far.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen May 9, 2007 02:35 PM

No, what I'm saying is that they might just use the GTS or trade with somebody to get the Dusknoir in their Pokedex, not caring about its stats, nature, moveset, etcetera.

Freelance May 9, 2007 03:07 PM

Not everyone has online service, or friends for that matter :D
Also, it's impossible to obtain Dusknoir through GTS. I've never seen an AI trainer using one, but don't quote me on that. I haven't battled every trainer.

Now that I actually need one now though. Mine's just a 'what if' scenario.

Chaotic May 9, 2007 04:55 PM

I took all of last night and some of today raising a Lucario I hatched the other day. It's level 42 right now, and I'm just trying to even out my team at the moment.

Can anyone recommend a good move set for Lucario? At the moment, I have:

- Reversal
- Swords Dance
- Aura Sphere
- Psychic

Additional Spam:
Oh, Wolf, do you want a Skorupi still? I managed to nab one when I was in the Safari Zone earlier.

UltimaIchijouji May 9, 2007 08:18 PM

If anyone has any of the starters from previous gens, I kind of need it them. I don't have much to trade back since I don't have any of the older games due to incidents.

It'd be greatly appreciated though.

Chaotic May 9, 2007 08:41 PM

Which ones are you specifically looking for? I might be able to wrangle you up some this weekend.
