They should do this: Make Young Link like a whole new character by allowing him to switch between Deku/Zora/Goron masks, as in Majora's Mask. He wouldn't have the classic abilities that Adult Link has, but the new forms would make up for this.

But how well would that work? Sheik's swap move is down+B, so would YL have to switch 3 times to get to the desired character? That seems too tough to pull off in the heat of a battle, especially if you desire a specific move set from one of the variations. If each variation has a move set, it would almost make him too unbalanced because he'd have so much variety - Power in the Goron, Speed in the Zora, low targeting in the Deku, and all the things we already love about YL on top of that. Playing the game would be like playing four swords:Smash bros. - four Links in every battle!
Perhaps just alter his character with his special moves being related to the masks, allowing an "instant transformation" and separating him more from Adult Link.
I would like to see each individual character with its own unique fighting style instead of the clones. It would mean a big change is some of the most popular characters, but it would make for a more interesting game.

The_Griffin May 17, 2006 11:53 PM

Here's an idea: Instead of having him cycle, he could only have one move, his recovery. The B, Down+B, and Smash+B would correspond with the three masks.

In his forms, he would have two moves, the one you used to switch him to a specific form, and his recovery. Each would have unique A attacks.

I like it. =D

PsychoJosh May 18, 2006 12:09 AM

How come we haven't started talking about stages yet? Let's talk stages, and don't forget that they need hazards among other things to make them unique.

I actually had a dream about this game; Sonic was in it, and he had two stages. One of them was a floating island with both the Death Egg in the background, and it was playing a remade version of the music from Launch Base Zone in Sonic 3. Of course, this isn't possible since the music in Smash Bros. is entirely orchestrated but maybe they'll surprise us there, too.

The stage didn't have hazards though. I assume the Death Egg just fires bombs that slam into the side of the island you're standing on, which causes an effect similar to when Kraid strikes the island in Brinstar Depths. They also sometimes misfire and actually hit the characters.

Better yet, the stage could be the Death Egg itself.

I don't, how about making his taunts into morphs. No point in wasting buttons. Better yet, each character can morph into any other character with a taunt. Anyway, I doubt they'll include a mask-carrying YL, if they would have done that at all it would have been for SSBM when the game was new. Young Link will probably be the WW/Minish Link, since he's the youngest and looks the most different from TP Adult Link.

I sure hope the new stages are batter than the ones they showed in the trailer. Too many of them from SSBM were variations on "platform with 1 or 2 other platforms floating overhead"

Nintendo 4 life May 18, 2006 12:39 AM

Final Fantasy Phoneteen May 18, 2006 01:00 AM

It's aleady been confirmed (or strongly hinted) that it will use the Gamecube controller.

I can't even read the rest of what the fuck you're saying, man.

You are an idiot, read the goddamn articles about the game and what we said earlier on in this thread (we've already spoken about this and have completely ruled out Cloud). Also, never post again. That would be wonderful.

super smash bros. melee was orchestrated as well, but there were a good number of tracks that weren't (samus's stages, a lot of the unlockables).

it would work by costume changes. currently, on the character select screen, pushing X or Y cycles colors, but i think it would rock if they made X change characters that are related to the main one and Y change colors for the models.

examples- after pushing X:

-mario would become dr mario
-young link would wear any of his three masks
-mega man (if he is in the game) could change into X, or battle network mega man
-samus -> zero suit samus
-sonic -> knuckles -> tails?
-any of the belmonts from castlevanias?

i'd think they could make these unlockable, and they could also give the different "characters" different abilities as well- this would be better than having copies of these characters.

also, if this idea would fall through, i still think making costume changes full and changing the models for the characters based on costume is a good idea rather than just changing the color.

chaofan May 18, 2006 09:33 AM

I'm hoping they evolve the series a bit further. The evasion techniques were virtually the only advancement in the series last time around...

that could work using the y button as in Y+ system would make that work
and he would still have some his old moves

kuttlas May 18, 2006 08:33 PM

Yes, there is no reason to have 2 jump buttons. Its a waste of a move.

J-Man May 18, 2006 09:08 PM

Also, two shield buttons is a waste. Efficiency should be a more-thought-out factor.

That could create a ridiculous amount of characters, and would too severely limit a character with good conversion potential like Young Link. How could I decide between Goron Link and Zora Link?
They also need room for all the characters we all want. I just ask that they don't OVERdo it, as it currently seems that it's very possible.
Snake, for me, is a bit over the top.

Nintendo 4 life May 19, 2006 12:44 AM

if you dont know on the official site the character list is starting to apear.

yes i strongly agree

BurningRanger May 19, 2006 02:52 AM

Let's just save everyone a lot of hassle and have someone ban him from the thread at this point.

PsychoJosh May 19, 2006 03:09 AM

How about the forums? He's going to post like this everywhere, I just know it.

Also, I just thought of something. If Konami is contributing characters, you know who should really be in the game? SPARKSTER. The potential for attacks this little possum dude has is just ridiculous.

RABicle May 19, 2006 04:17 AM

If theres too many characters why not CUT THEM.
Ice Climbers, Young Link, Pichu, Mewtwo, Roy, Dr Mario, Falco and Ness shouldn't even qualify as Nintendo allstars. But since nobodies like MetaKnight, Pit and Zero Suit Samus are in might as well put everyone in. Ashley from Another Code/Trace Memory? WHY NOT? SHE'S IN AS MANY GAMES AS NESS. That guy who sold you magic beans in OOT? WHO EVER CARES ABOUT NAMES? ICE CLIMBERS ARE THERE!

PsychoJosh May 19, 2006 05:55 AM

Hey, while you're going off on that tangent, why don't we put in put in Goombella, one of the cars from Stunt Race FX and Mother Brain (in the jar and everything!)?

Suggesting stupid characters is fun to a certain extent, as long as you aren't serious (you'd be surprised, some people actually are).

RABicle May 19, 2006 12:31 PM

FOR REAL I HAVE SEEN MESSAGE BOARDS WHERE PEOPLE SUGGEST THOSE NO NAME PARTNERS OF MARIO IN PAPER MARIO!

What I'm saying is they need to CUT characters and then MATCH the Nintendo characters with an equal number fo third party goons.

Dubble May 19, 2006 02:01 PM

Im rather surprised that no one seems to have thought of this (or if they have then maybe I skimmed the thread too quickly). But if Old Link is the Twilight princess version, then why not have Young Link be the Wind Waker version. Aesthetically it'd make perfect sense and they wouldn't have to be clones of each other play wise. Plus - if they each had thier own stages - the look and feel of them would be a very interesting visual contrast.

immp May 19, 2006 02:22 PM

I'd go for that if the styles werent so clashing. All the characters in melee are more or less uniform, mainly in how they're textured. Then again ...mr. game & watch =x

Instead of making young link different they could just change old link...since yes he is the tlp version. Make him change into a wolf! omgz genius.

BurningRanger May 19, 2006 03:10 PM

Well, we can't really comment on the play mechanics of a Twilight Princess Link, because not a single one of us has played Twilight Princess.

It's a good idea, but as said before, it is a bit clashing, especially WW link and the Link in the Trailer. Then again, Trailer Pikachu and Trailer Link are a big contrast as well, so I guess it's fair game. And I digress.....

Different playing styles of characters may not be obvious but any change in their stats can yield great differences in a player's style. Case in point: Marth and Roy are the two most common figures for this example. Both have basically the same exact attacks. However, one does more damage at the sword's tip while the other does more inside the sweep. (I dunno which is which as I rarely use either one, much less know their stats). This, IMO, will greatly change your playing style as you may come from being extremely skilled as Roy, but when you change to Marth, Your fighting style has to change to correspond with the new "sweet spot" on the sword for most effective attacks. Granted, it is minor, but nevertheless, can be critical in the heat of a battle.

I still retain the opinion that nobody should be deleted from any previous game.....lest you get complaints from a Pichu Player....lol....Seriously, with the change from 1.4GB to 4.7GB, I think we have plenty of space to keep the all characters from the last games. (Unless I'm mistaken here.....feel free to correct me....)
