I never had that much trouble with it either. Perhaps for fighting games it doesn't work well for, but if you're using analog for fighting games then you can't be too serious of a fighter to begin with. Just like Pietak though, my only deal with it is that there isn't too. And fingures crossed that Kojima's AI controlled camera thing works out for Metal Gear.

Well, looks like I've been proven wrong: DevHook 0.50 with 2.82 firmware emulation out now!

(Those who can use it know where to get it, no links required)

Any reports?

Kilroy Dec 1, 2006 08:24 AM

You mean that guys with firmware 2.82 gets to play funny stuff or am I just wrong all the way?

Elixir Dec 1, 2006 09:41 AM

Wow this is bullshit. Apparently the 3.00 firmware allows you to download PS1 games for your PSP, but you need a PS3 in order to do it.

Way to cash in, Sony. Way to cash in.

Inhert Dec 1, 2006 09:55 AM

like I said for now you need a ps3 because the playstation store is only avaible for the ps3, but apparently they are working on a way so that the psp will be able to acces it... so will have to wait for an update...

but anyway ps1 game are avaible only in Japan now...I hope they will add them to the NA playstation store soon...

They could simply host the files on yourpsp.com for people to download. Then, regardless of whether your PSP has direct internet access or not, you could download and transfer them through USB.

It makes sense, otherwise many people are going to be put off by this. The PSP's lacking games as it is - it's not like people want to purchase a new console, which lacks games in itself, just so they can update their old handheld.

I get the feeling that their PS1 range will all be mainstream titles, and we'll never see titles like Vib Ribbon or Lomax the Lemming.

The other way around... those of us who are lucky enough to have v1.50 can boot games that require v2.82 firmware. I don't see any reason to ever upgrade my PSP, if this continues.

gotta love the sony evolution of expenditures, huh?

Slayer X Dec 1, 2006 10:26 AM

Megalixer: They're working on having everything available on the PSP directly, they're just not done yet. And whether it is able to do it over the PS3 or not is of no matter because they still would not have the ability for the PSP to do it directly anyway, and you'd still be waiting. Plus what you call lack of games I call time to finish the ones I have.

Games I'm working on;
Killzone Liberation
Ultimate Ghosts N Goblins
Field Commander Metal Gear Acid 2
GTA VCS

And then Metal Gear Portal OPs comes out DEC/5th which is going to be amazing.

omg I almost got an heart attack today >.< I drop my psp 2 floor high! it was almost like in a movie where everything goes in slow motion and you do those face that you sure look stupid XD

but fortunately for me I carry always my psp in the default soft little pocket, so most of the shock was absorb by that...and IT STILL WORK PERFECTLY!!! (omg I was so happy)

the only thing that happen is the little button that keep the battery cover fell of, but I just put it back easily without problem. I was more worried about the screen, but there no scratch on it ^^ there's just the "umd door" that was a little deformed from the shock, but it really minimal and all game work fine XD

so that was my little (big) scare or the day XD

TheXeno Dec 2, 2006 12:50 AM

I just got one for my b-day... Anyway i've been trying to log in to the official psp site and it doesn't accept my Email and password O.o

edit - I found this site http://www.pspdemocenter.com God I can't wait for Portabl Ops

I just got this thing and I would appreciate any other sites/tips for a nooblet. I also updated to the latest firmware, no homebrew for me...

Also can anyone recommend a screen cover and something to get rid of these finger/prints

Updating to the latest firmware is the last thing you should do. It isn't just for homebrew, either.

Seeing as how you can download and play entire PSP games on 2.71 or lower, screwing yourself over with newer firmware is a pretty bad move. Now you're forced to purchase games and that's pretty much all your options are. =/

that happened to me too, what I did was I bought this hard plastic shell from Wal mart for my psp, it's protected it from some pretty damn hard bumps

Inhert Dec 2, 2006 09:48 AM

the logitech one? because yeah I heard about it and I thought about purchasing it a lot of time but I thought it wasn't that necessary... now I think I'll give it a shot XD

elixir: you know that in this forum, there's some people that still prefer to buy games XD but I can see why a lot of people use devhook, but for me I never use emulation or other homebrew, some keeping my psp at 1.5 was a little useless....

I've found this to be a great screen protector for the PSP. It's not one of those adhesive sheets, instead it is a hard plastic cover that fits over the screen, and is retained in place by a rubber shell that covers the rest of the PSP while leaving the essential parts, such as the controls, the power socket, and the UMD drive uncovered. It doesn't seem to really have a downside.

chato Dec 2, 2006 12:09 PM

I may want to do that dev hook with my other psp sometime soon. There's some 2d fighting game called Spectral (force or something) vs Generation (of chaos). Those are those two strategy rpg games that were for psp or something. Saw some vids and Im interested in it.

As for the screen covers. That looks cool and all but I still have the one stuck to my screen for almost a year or two and no prints or hairlines on it..yet.

griffin84 Dec 4, 2006 03:24 AM

best games

let's get back to discussing what games are the best on psp and which aren't- campaign for your fave, tell us why you hate some other game, save everyone else the trouble of buying it or get a good debate going! me personally, the best game i've played lately is death jr. 2- i'm expecting to get some flack for this because it's not your typical shoot 'em up game, but it's so creative and tons of fun, who's with me????? :edgarrock: at least check it out before you dismiss it

Pietak Dec 4, 2006 04:45 PM

Alright, I'm too lazy to go through the process of dumping 2.81. Can someone post the files necessary to place into the /dh/2.81 folder, or am I going to have to do it myself?

Fuck, I'm lazy.

Rock Dec 4, 2006 04:51 PM

Haven't tried myself, but from my understanding, you have to do it yourself, because of some hardware signature that's being applied to the files.

Pietak Dec 4, 2006 05:38 PM

Ah, you're probably right. Eh, I'll just do it late tonight.

Double Post:
Holy shit...

Just a few short days after the landmark release of Devhook 0.50, Booster has once again updated Devhook to v0.51. And the amazing new addition in the latest version is nothing less than 3.01 emulation! While people couldn't have been happier, it was, in a way, expected after the original fireworks by none other than the Noobz crew.

While this should result in a lot of tinkering by everyone, for now, you probably will be able to check out PS1 games on your PSP if you're one of the lucky ones to have a PS3. Luckily, we do have a PS3 here at QJ and will be documenting all of our experiences. Watch out for them in the near future!

Anyways, I can bet that you'll all be dying to try this out. Well, what better than to link to our forums with a tutorial. And while it says that it's for Devhook 0.50, I've already confirmed that the same steps will work, even for the latest devhook. Finally, here's the latest release of Devhook and its respective SDK.

Chato do you happen to remember what made your screen cover?

The other day I picked Lumines 1 and Kill Zone. I"m also thinking of ordering this http://www.gamestech.com/PSP_Info/PS..._Pouch/hpp.htm case or maby this http://www.gamestech.com/PSP_Info/PS..._Pouch/hhp.htm for portable cases. If anyone has a portable case to recommend please do.

Hopefully Best Buy will have Portable Ops in tomorrow.

edit -- Has anyone tried the US Guilty Gear game that came out for the psp?

Spectral Souls
Generation of Chaos

These are two games that you should stay VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY far away from unless you hate yourself.

They are horrible. Utter trash. Long load times (between each action), laggy gameplay, and GoC has the most confusing interface I've ever seen in any game, ever.

I can't warn you enough not to get these games. They are not fun. I REPEAT, NOT FUN.

Elixir Dec 5, 2006 04:10 PM

Spectral vs. Generation is a game in itself, but I didn't like it. It's nice to see 2D fighters still being made, and with such high quality like Gulty Gear, but since it was on the PSP it didn't feel right.

I haven't played the other two RPGs though. Apparently they're bad too. In other news though, Disgaea for PSP was just released in japan. I'd like to know if this will come out in english and what's new from the previous game.

Of course I won't bother with it though, fuck that. I've already clocked well over 100 hours into my original copy of Disgaea, and the last thing I want to do is start from scratch on a portable of all things.

Rock Dec 6, 2006 06:54 PM

Guys, I need some sort of update on all the latest in PSP hacking.

I've always been a follower of DevHook, but with all the custom firmwares out now, I thought I should think about a change. So what are the advantages of custom firmwares? How do they compare to a 1.5 firmware PSP with the latest DevHook?

And finally, what do you guys prefer for all your PSP homebrew/ISO loader needs?

Don't worry. The reviews and screenshots are more than enough to not make me buy them ;p.

Originally Spectral vs Generation came out for ps2. There's a torrent for the ps2 version but no seeds =/. As long as the psp version have analog compatability that's good enough.

I just got into this devhook thing. It's all complicated shit. There's one for 3.01 and Sony has released another (minor) update.

@TheXeno - The graphics were toned down a bit. Not as much to get you turned off. The gameplay is still there. It's fun , more combo bs. Also , you dont need to unlock anything since there is no storyline like the original GGXX game for ps2. GG Judgement is fun though. Too bad There is nothing much to unlock. I though ABA or Order Sol would be in it.
