Yes, I know that. What I was getting at is that they never explained the hospital appearance, nor the Desmond flashback appearance. I found it annoying. I suppose I still do.

My main annoyance, however, is the monster. It hasn't explained anything about it and it's been mysteriously missing for most (or all of, I don't know for sure) of the second season.

It makes a big appearance in the episode The 23rd Psalm, but that's about it, unfortunately.

The less the better. It was a bad idea and people are getting far too hung up over it. It was quaint, nothing more.

Libby's presence in the hospital was probably purposely left open-ended for a future Hurley-centric episode.

And what is there to explain for her appearance in Desmond's flashback? She was there and gave him a boat. It's just another one of those crazy Lost-type connections.

wakarukaya May 31, 2006 07:37 PM

In response to all the characters becoming unlikeable, I kind of agree. For most of the characters at least. I really don't think Sayid has really changed much. He can be as smug as he wants. It seems like he's the only one who knows what he's doing. Maybe Eko too. The current Jack and Locke sure don't.

As for Claire and Charlie, I don't really care for them at all. I stopped liking Charlie after he attacked Sun for revenge against John. Funny that I didn't care so much that Sawyer hatched the plan, since he seemed to do it for a more concrete purpose. Sawyer has always been pretty cool in his own way.

Not much to be said about Micheal...

Eleo May 31, 2006 08:14 PM

According to the most recent podcast we saw the monster in this season a few times but didn't know it. So I'm basically like, what? Supposedly they had "more stories to tell about the monster" but didn't get around to it. (Because this season was very to-the-point and had 0 filler episodes, right.)

I'm mostly confused because I'm having trouble thinking of what it could have appeared as or caused that was actually cool. If it turns out to be able to somehow turn into animals (horse, green Hurleybird), I will be disappointed, as I always regarded this as one of the dumber theories. I don't really like the idea of it becoming a manifestation of everyone's own fears, either, but that's not as bad of an idea. I hope it's not what induces dreams upon everyone, either - unless that simply turns out to be one of its abilities. None of those even would really explain why we sometimes see it uproot trees, roar, etc.

I dislike people saying the monster is meh. It was part of what made the show during the pilot (besides just good writing). Up until that point the show was just a serious Gilligan's island. The monster is what initially brought the show into the realm of sci-fi (sort-of-horror). It basically set up the fact that the island was fucking weird, and I definitely liked it as potential danger.

For a time the Others were considered dangerous but now that we know they're just dudes who may or may not capture you, that sense of danger is diminished. (They really directed the first few scenes involving the Others to make them seem like deranged, murderous, zombie-like drones. And let's not forget the mysterious whispers.)

So for me, the monster is essential. Even if they tell us what it is it will still be awesome, provided it actually is a threat and isn't super anti-climax the-monster-destroys-diseased-trees-to-keep-the-island-pretty~ (<--I don't really expect it to be bad to that extent.)

Well I guess this is sarcasm, but I empathised with her weaknesses in season 1 because of her pregnancy, and also, she was nowhere near as annoying or dumb.
Count me in among those who wish all three (Claire, Charlie and Aaron) just died or disappeared.

The music that was played in episode 24 when Michael was hugging his son isn't on the soundtrack is it? Or is it just me that can't find the violin song...?

There have been interviews addressing this:

Spoiler:
Her role in the whole storyline will come about next year as well, a la Boone.

Although if you dislike him for personal reasons I can see why.

Musharraf Jun 2, 2006 01:43 AM

Well yeah, I understand what you mean; but I dunno, he acted pretty strange from the very beginning, and his intention on building a church was just the top of all that. And yeah, I guess I don't like him for personal reasons, too.

Lost and Comic-Con go hand-in-hand, apparently.

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/tvnews.php?id=15614

Lost's Comic-Con panel revealed some intriguing pieces of information concerning the third season and beyond.

It's quite a list:
- Season three will have a vastly different feeling, but at the same time reembrace the roots of the series.

- Season three will focus more on adventure.

- The first six episodes in the fall will be like a mini-series and focuses on the captivity story of Jack, Kate and Sawyer.

- We'll learn more about The Others and Alex's story.

- An event will happen mid-season that will blow people away!

- J.J. Abrams will co-write the first episode which is titled "The Tale of Two Cities." He'll also direct the seventh episode, which is the first episode of the second half of the third season (early next year).

- They are going to reveal what happened to Locke, Desmond and Echo.

- They are adding new regular characters, which they are casting for now.

- You'll see more scenes from the outside world (taking place at the same time they are on the island).

- Desmond and Penny's relationship forms a new seed for a new element in the series.

- Libby will be back to fill in the gaps.

- Within the first few episodes Kate "gets with someone".

- They are going to explain the medical miracles.

- They debunked the rumor that the monster is a cloud nanobot.

- The hyroglypics on the countdown clock are signs of the underworld.

- They have 4 to 5 seasons planned out, and they knew the beginning and ending from the start. Going beyond 5 seasons would be stretching it, they said.

- If they introduce a question on the show, they already know the answer.

- They do look at fans' reactions and that does affect how they do things on the show.

- They showed a promo for the 13 "Lost" diaries that will be on Verizon, which featured Hugo finding a camera and interviewing people on the island.

- A "Lost" game from Ubisoft is coming next year which features a new story.

- On the season two DVD, you can expect one feature which has all of Sawyer's famous lines!

And then a couple of days ago TV Guide posted an interview they had with Carlton Cuse. Some of what he said seems to have gotten rehashed in the Comic-Con panel, but it's worth a read nonetheless.

Well I'm hoping Season 3 will be better than Season 2. They already promised the monster will be back, which is win.

I am a little weary of scenes taking place off the island, but maybe if they do it smartly, like in lieu of flashbacks, it'll work out well.

It's interesting they bring up "underworld." With the monster being hinted at being called "Cerberus" and trying to drag Locke down a hole (which presumably led to somwhere besides death), and "save yourself from Hell" being written on the blast door map, I'm starting to think there's some kind of "hell" on this island, and am very interested in knowing what it is and why it's called that.

Helloween Jul 22, 2006 06:21 PM

I missed those references to "hell" and "Cerberus" you speak of. Where are they?

Eleo Jul 22, 2006 06:45 PM

On the blast door map.

Has anyone been following The Lost Experience? I initially lost interest in it after the season ended, but I started to catch up on what occurred about a month ago.

There are definitely some interesting clues/answers/questions that have been created through this thing (I personally love the references/possible explanation of the Black Rock). Sadly, I gave up on it once again around the time when...

Spoiler:
Rachel Blake revealed herself as Persephone.

I just can't stand the actress they have doing the character. I might bite the bullet and just watch all of the blog videos before they are deleted.

Eleo Jul 23, 2006 10:30 PM

I haven't been following it. I lost track. Is there some comprehensive website that lists/links to all of the interesting stuff I can find?

I like how this DJ Dan character just seems to be a propagator of foilers, like Mapinguari/nanobots/dharmashark (did you know that wasn't even supposed to be in the episode and was removed from repeats?).

rockthepartay Jul 24, 2006 12:26 AM

This is the site that I've been using. It's pretty reliable, and they give you all the steps so you can unlock videos, pictures, etc.

Yeah, I remember hearing that the Dharma symbol on the shark was a production error or something around those lines. My question is this: how the fuck does a mistake like that happen? Didn't ANYONE watch the final cut of the episode before it aired? They might as well have kept it in, because everybody fucking knows about it now and will be questioning where it went if it is not on the DVD.

It's little mistakes that really bother me. I mean, if they really want us to analyze this show to death and take the phrase "Everything happens for a reason," you better fucking make sure that there are ZERO production/prop mistakes.

I think that's a tad bit harsh. Personally, I'm amazed at how intricate the details on the show are (not to mention the lack of real plot holes), so one or two mistakes aren't that apocalyptic. The people working on the show are human, after all.

rockthepartay Jul 24, 2006 01:33 AM

Yeah, maybe I should explain myself further.

I don't really care about the common things that occur during editing/filming. Things such as scars not being in exact spots, scenes being re-used, or a horse trainer's hand accidentally appearing doesn't really bother me. I find them to be hilarious.

What bothers me are mistakes that, although small, affect the plot. One example of this is that there was supposed to be a Widmore sign in the background of one of Charlie's flashbacks. However, it came out illegible, even though it was supposed to be. It's not like it was a last minute addition. They hinted at it in the official podcast before the episode aired! Yet, barely anyone could make out what it said and if people were not forewarned about it, that little clue would have been overlooked.

Other mistakes such as the inconsistency of the photograph taken of Hurley in his flashback and incorrect information on Jin's resume are the ones that I can think of off the top of my head.

Don't get me wrong. I don't care as much as I'm letting on. It just annoys me to no fucking end how I have to explain to my family/friends how something that they found is just a prop mistake. Of course, they don't believe me.

Eleo Jul 24, 2006 01:49 AM

That kind of stuff bothers me too. It's pretty frustrating when we're supposed to pick up on little things but they mess up with little things. For example there was a lot of discussion over the fact that the Desmond/Penny photo showed Penny in white originally, then showed her in black even though it was supposed to be the same photo. Some people took this as part of the black/white duality dealy, but of course that photo was edited in the repeat to make her shirt white again. Sigh.

The funny thing is, horse trainer's hand getting caught in the shot will get analyzed by crazy fans anyway. Like, hey, guys, Kate has peripheral vision :/ Although that's another mistake I don't know how they let slip by. It by no means took a trained eye to see that hand in the right side of the frame.

I don't know what the big deal about the dharmashark was, anyway. I mean, I can't imagine it would contradict future plots; maybe DHARMA was fucking around branded a shark at some point for some reason, lol. They've obviously been screwing around with polar bears.

MagicalVacation Jul 25, 2006 06:11 AM

Soo.... Did anyone hear about the fact that season three will be split up into two parts? And the second part won't be aired until february of next year?

That kinda sucks :-D

Put Balls Jul 25, 2006 06:18 AM

Isn't that how Season 2 was aired too? With a huge gap around New Year.

MagicalVacation Jul 25, 2006 06:37 AM

Oh, I don't know, I live in Belgium and we got a new episode every monday... But now i've switched to ABC programming because Belgian tv tends to lag behind after a while.
