Well, episode 25 featured the infamous and 'fan-controversial' scene from the manga. I checked it out even though I don't normally watch the anime (though I really should). I already knew the anime was very good, with damn-near OVA quality animation and more or less a faithful retelling of the original story, but I found myself once again impressed with the series' handling after watching 25.
We're presented with a short few scenes featuring Light and L, adding some more depth into the latter's character in particular. While these scenes never happened in the manga and could be considered 'filler,' they add a lot of emotion to the inevitable climax of what some people regard as the 'end of Death Note.' Maybe it's because I was unknowingly spoiled of this event long before I even bothered to read the manga, but I was far more affected by this 'chapter/episode' in animated form than I was when I read it. That aside, the scene with L cleaning Light's foot (which was added for the anime) can draw religious parallels and in a way portrays L as a somewhat 'weak' in the sense that Spoiler:
But what many, including myself, will take from this scene is the fan-service. There's already an overabundance of that yaoi crap everywhere involving these two, so this scene almost seems shoved in that for that reason alone. Nevertheless, the 'big moment' is handled pretty well. I seriously hope they keep 'swimming lessons' in the anime. That's bound to be even more epic than "JUST AS PLANNED." |
Ah..thanks for that little religious reminder. I went making fun at it with a few friends for a while. So for the fangirls, congrats.
So now that we get 25 good episodes of the 1st arc. How can the 2nd season be only 11 or rather 10 episodes (episode 26 might be a filler)? Simple. Like Ohba didn't give two pieces of shit about the rest of the story, Madhouse won't either u.u. |

The show was only original scheduled for 37 episodes. They're going to add as many more as it takes to complete the manga. =/
As for the source of that, I forget, but I remember reading that weeks ago. Completing the manga won't be a problem; keeping up the interest might be. |

Ahh, I've only been DLing Animanda's subs, but they haven't gotten around to releasing anything past 23. Which of the remaining subbers are good? >_> I want to waaaaatch.

Yeah thanks, Rydia. I never come here because I'm afraid I'd get spoiled in regards to the manga (I've only just started reading it).
Anyway, I saw eps 24-26 last night, and... Spoiler:
P.S. Any chance of that DS game coming out here? |
Just watched episode 26 couple nights ago; was surprised a whole 'nother arc is starting @_@.

At least now I can see why Summonmaster likes this other guy, but I dunno. The new arc doesn't seem to be as interesting as the first arc. I've heard people say that there's a point in the story that ruins it all. I wonder if this part is it >_>

Yeah, I saw that earlier, and it sucks 'cause just the other day I DLed kuro-hana's subs to catch up. Booo... >_>
The live-action movie's ending is nothing like the anime ending. *whew* |

Funny change of subtitles. The only part I didn't like was the text bubbles. Everything else sounded very similar to Yagami Light. This video may be hard to understand if you actually speak Japanese very well. |

If the show go's downhill from here I'll just delete all the other episodes and keep up to 25. Hell, its a compelling show with just those 25 and no further. |
I haven't read it, but I predicted this "event" would eventually happen. The show is ultimately about Kira, and it promotes an idea that at the core, if we allow our morals to truly surface with no repurcussions, we are ultimately evil beings. I think at a deeper level the story is trying to say that we are all Kiras, or that we could all become Kiras.

I can already expect half of the people might dislike the second arc no matter what happens since it seems most people are already having bad expectations of it.
Although, it is interesting how they plan to complete the entire second arc in 10 episodes. In the manga, the first arc was only a few chapters longer than the second. In other word, they were about the same length. This arc starts at episode 26 (near the end), which would make it less than half as long as the first arc. Because of this, I'm expecting good things from it. Whether it will be as good as the first arc, I do not know. Because it's only 10 episodes, I doubt it, but because it's 10 episodes, I don't think it will be a dissapointment. Regarding episode 25: Spoiler:

I pretty much makes alot of sense though. I don't think it'd be hard cramming 3-4 chapters in one episode.

EDIT: For those who care to know : Near - Noriko HIDAKA. She did a nice job as kikyo from Inuyasha. Im not all familiar with the others. (TAKE THAT PAKU ROMI FANS!) Mello - Nozomu SASAKI . Anyone who is familiar with the voice of Tetsuo Shima and K9999 should've noticed it from the beginning ^^. I say it's a perfect fit. With the start of the 2nd arc, the music changed up alot (with a few familiar and wise choice of tracks). Sounds so damn good that I might even enjoy this more than the manga version. Animation improved more.Looks to me that they're going all out. You can also see how much Sayu has matured O.o. |
OMFG.
From what I've seen of episode 27 (only halfway through) the second arc looks to be just as or even more amazing than the first. Spoiler:

After watching episode 29, I don't exactly know what is going on with the plot since everything they seem to be doing seems a bit random.
I just hope that the future episodes will be able to finish off everything in time before the end of the series (37 episodes if I'm not mistaken). |
They are cramming things in this arc. The first arc usually had 2-3 chapters per episode. Episode 29 had 9, and the ones before that at usually at least 4. They skipped a lot of things in episode 29, mainly the new shinigami was suppose to have more action along with a person in Mello's gang doing the eye deal.
At this rate, I can understand if they make it to 37 episodes, I just hope they can keep things simple and allow great tension for the end of the series. |

Yeah, I hear you there. Actually, I didn't feel that this arc was being rushed until episode 29. Having all that content in one episode was crazy. I never cared when certain things were filtered out before (such as deep thinking, boring conversations, etc.), but some really important stuff was left out, most importantly being Spoiler:

I just saw episode 30, and they made some changes to it compared to the manga.
