You know, the Pokemon game they released in the 60's! You know!

You mean 98 Right??

I just woke up and was checking to see if it actually updated. Imagine my surprise. I think what they are doing with this means that they will take out Mewtwo and Pichu, however, It is unknown whether they will take out jigglypuff or not. I would be pissed to Chao, It's always funny to see somebody take on Mewtwo, Marth, and Captain falcon with jigglypuff and win!

Ooohhh, Oohhhh, Speculations on their attacks
Ivysaur:
B= Tackle
->+B= Razor Leaf
^+B= Leaf Storm

Charizard:
B= Dragon Claw
->+B= Flamethrower
^+B= Seismic Toss

Squirtle:
B= Bubblebeam or Headbutt
->+B= Hydro Pump
^+B= Hydro Cannon

FatsDomino Aug 13, 2007 08:39 AM

I wouldn't doubt the removal of Pichu since he was just a weak clone but MewTwo was fairly unique in that he was a grabbag of various character moves and wonky physics. I liked him. Jigglypuff will obviously be making a return as she was apart of the original crew. I mean really, the argument for the removal of individual Pokemon in light of the Pokemon Trainer is pretty poor. Pikachu and Jigglypuff have always been popular and MewTwo was a pretty cool villian. They stand on their own pretty well. These three that the Pokemon Trainer use are balanced enough to be fair. It should be interesting since they'll all control a bit differently due to speed and weight class.

If only they had Comedy Option Pokemon Trainer (Brock). Team Snarlax, Slowpoke, and Psyduck would be fucking incredible. ='D

Kanzaki Aug 13, 2007 09:23 AM

This character is cool, but I think it's another way to add more Pokemon to the rooster =P. I wonder if the alternate colors would be the shinning ones, and for the trainer it would be another like the ruby or gold trainer.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Aug 13, 2007 10:54 AM

Oh wow, I thought this was just an Assist Trophy when I saw it. I can't even imagine what it'd be like to play as this guy.

Very surprising update. Easily a bigger surprise than Ike.

Well, they might be able to toss in Green (female from the same games as Red, the guy shown) along with Dawn and Lucas from Diamond and Pearl. They'd just have alternate models instead of colors if they did it this way.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Aug 13, 2007 07:31 PM

They actually haven't shown a single pokemon from the fourth generation. I wonder why.

Dopefish Aug 13, 2007 08:09 PM

Because they know they're just getting out of hand with the fourth generation. :p

I think it's silly that the Pokemon Trainer only has those three Pokemon to choose from. First, when was the last time you had those three Pokemon in your party at the same time? Unless you bothered to trade. Second, why only those three?

Zephos Aug 13, 2007 08:30 PM

It makes perfect sense. Having more than three Pokemon would defeat both the purpose of the character and the pokeball item. Less is more with these fighters.

Good point, but it's unlikely that they'll be left out of the game seeing as how the previous titles had pokemon present from the latest games.

Kanzaki Aug 13, 2007 09:05 PM

There are too many to chose from, for both the pokeballs and if an "alternate trainer" appears(and also to be added as a normal fighter ala Pikachu). Mewtwo may suck in melee but his attacks are cool and fun. (Except aerial down+a, because its slow and you never know when it hits :P)

Something that may be a dumb question, but how is the trainer going to move in the stages? Summoning more Pokemon , I mean in the DK stage, or what if there is a stage like Pokefloats or Big blue? The only way I think it may be is summoning a flying Pokemon. Would be fun to watch.

Not really, they've already shown that they can pick and choose what gets in and what doesn't with the previous pokemon. Same thing will probably happen here.

Heh, damn good question. Wouldn't be surprised if he can following along just fine by running and jumping.

Kanzaki Aug 13, 2007 10:17 PM

Well for the pokeball pokemon(duh) there are many attacks they can add, or many pokemon for an attack. It would be cool if it wasn't just Goldeen using "splash" but also Magikarp , not just Venusaur using earthquake , add also Rhydorn. Or different attacks for each, or two different attacks for one pokemon.

I mean, I know that is not probable, but that would be a great risk factor for players when they throw a pokeball, they won't know who will appear and what will it do. But then again, I'm just day-dreaming. :P

I still wanna know if Zelda is going to transform into Sheik, or not. Oh and also waiting for Lyn.

Cheezeman3000 Aug 14, 2007 12:22 AM

Zelda isn't going to transform because she's the twilight princess version.
I'm still worried that this trainer will make matchups vs. pikachu weird, but oh well, at least it'll add more variety.
I'm wondering why people haven't said anything about the Animal Crossing stage yet... doesn't that mean there'll be an Animal Crossing fighter?

Chaotic Aug 14, 2007 12:35 AM

It doesn't mean that she can't transform into Shiek though. She might have the look from Twilight Princess, but she does have that ability to completely change her appearance therefore still being able to transform into Sheik.

As far as that Pokemon trainer following his Pokemon on fast stages, I'm sure they'll make him stand in the background on top of those platforms that bring the characters in after they die. I mean, they keep up with the speed of the stage, I wouldn't see why it wouldn't be logical.

To the side! He’s pointing to the side!

OMFG He's pointing to the side! THE SIDE I TELL YOU!!

Seems like this guy's gonna be the bane of quite a few players, myself included.

Metal Sphere Aug 14, 2007 02:42 AM

I love this one. Definitely a nice bit of random chaos thrown in, especially if you're too busy to notice him show up or prepare yourself.

Dekoa Aug 14, 2007 07:48 AM

I wonder if he'll make any of the moving stages move faster if he points in that direction or if he will just point in one direction.

Kanzaki Aug 14, 2007 09:23 AM

Now imagine if there is someone to "turn of the lights" just like Togepi in Melee.
No lights + moving screen >=D

Yeah, and there was a Devil World trophy in the American version of Melee that can't be unlocked unless a cheating device is used, and even then, they changed the title of the game to "Demon World." (Yet there's a couple Devil's Forest tracks in F-Zero X. Go figure.)

I find it very pathetic of Nintendo of America to remove something so minor from the game just to avoid any potential backlash from the conservative dumbshits in this country. Not releasing a whole game under the title of "Devil World" is kind of understandable, but still pathetic. But they simply could have changed the title like Infernal Monkey said.

Yet there's still crosses, rosaries and holy water in the Castlevania games, not to mention a cross in Zelda II.

OMG! Crosses and the Devil! Banned in America!

This time though, since the there's no way to remove the Devil from Brawl without a huge backlash from fans, they'll have to include it in the game. Those screenshots also make me wonder if he'll also point up and down in Brawl.

Para Aug 14, 2007 04:02 PM

Ahahah devil world definitely obscure shit.

I remember playing that game so much on my GBA NES emulator and on my old famicom.

Its a shame that religion is such a testy issue in America.

Amayirot Akago Aug 15, 2007 02:24 AM

Today's update lies somewhere between the area of "meh" and "sweet".

I’d like to introduce a new collection element to the game—stickers.

Yes, the ones you slap on your notebook or skateboard or whatever. Stickers.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamem..._070815a-l.jpg
This...is a sticker.

Stickers are easier to get a hold of than trophies. Just play the game and you’ll start to earn them as rewards.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamem..._070815b-l.jpg
Stickers get filed away in your album.

There are big ones and small ones, all with different kinds of artwork. There’s a ton of variety.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamem..._070815c-l.jpg
Now stick one on! Sticky, sticky...

This is a fun extra mode where you can enjoy decorating things by putting stickers on them. You can even make single frame comics with them.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamem..._070815d-l.jpg
And rumor is, you can even save screenshots?!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamem..._070815e-l.jpg

Chaotic Aug 15, 2007 02:28 AM

It's nice, but I think they're just dragging on the fact that they want you to 100% this game. The stickers suddenly make that harder...

The Plane Is A Tiger Aug 15, 2007 02:37 AM

Oh god no, Professor Penis from Wii Big Brain Academy is back! ;_;
