Here are many side quest to be done, IF you want to 100% game completion... As it said before about the summons, but also gambit moves, equipments and others...

So I think I might clock this game over 100+ hrs easily with out even getting close to 100% >_< (Still have many summons missing :()

Oh! Also my friend had finished the game already, and for those who are wondering about the impact of the ending he said (sic. trans from Japanese) "FFXII is an Epic game, the ending just blowed me away! Luckily I save near the end, coz I want to see it again!" I can't wait until the ending too :D

Might contain hint for the ending:
EDIT: Later on he tell me something extra "The ending is somewhat expected if you follow the story closely, the twist is somehow expected too, however the story telling style, and the ending presentation was unexpected and it was just utterly beautiful... I WANT MORE! LIKE FFXII-2 ^___^

Craze Mar 23, 2006 06:17 AM

Hmm, guess your friends just played through the game without completing the side quests then?

Spoiler:
Any mentions of character relationships for the ending?

Sorry it wasn't any help Hunter, if I come across better scans I'll let you know.

CuteChocobo Mar 23, 2006 07:04 AM

Heh, I was talking to him on phone just then so I asked him the question you asked! He said that he completed almost ~90% of the game, only the troublesome side quests and a few other optional skills are missed! His clock hits 138 Hrs since the first day release @ 10am until yesterday.

Hmm, don't understand your spoiler's question >_<
My Personal interpretation of your question with answer:
For relationship, you mean what happends to each individual characters at the end? Coz I can't really tell ya with out BIG spoilers ;)

Spatula Mar 23, 2006 09:24 AM

Interesting. So this time the time clock goes over 99'99"? So far I don't think my other FFs have gone that far, but then again I really don't care about sidequests.

Wow, 138 hours without completing sidequests is considered pretty long! Although from what I've seen so far it doesn't look like a very long game...

About the spoiler..

[spoile]Sorry for being so unclear. Yeah, I meant what happened to each character at the end. I understand romance and love relationships aren't the main concern in FFXII, but I'm just curious since I've heard few things :D [/spoiler]

Sup Simo.

Also, what order are the ratings in for Famitsu? Ie. Gameplay, music, controls, visuals etc. I'm curious because this will obviously help me understand reviews better with the Famitsu system of rating.

They don't break down the game like that but rather post their final impressions with each of them reflecting what stood out best. Like I said earlier though, Famitsu's reviews are pretty much worthless because of their review system and how how biased they are to some franchises that they'll rate others harshly. The magazine is so respected and popular however because of their news and exclusives that their reviews are primarily a "go to" source in Japan.

Sorry about that but maskrider never came back to me with the request. Also is it possible for you to refrain from putting location names in your sig for where you are in the game?

It'd probably be best for a seperate spoiler thread since some seem to be having trouble grasping how to use the spoiler code.....

Oh and according to GPara.com FFXII sold over 1.76 million copies in 3 days. Not a bad number at all especially considering how expensive it is in Japan.

Yeah....unless it's FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus.

What reviews did DoC get? Again probably biased but oh well.

7/7/7/7.
7 being pretty much the equivalent to a 4 over here so usually when a game gets a 7 in Famitsu it usually means the game is shite even by their system.

No surprise their review for DoC didn't make press until 2 weeks after the game's release.

Just to reask my question again, so the FFXII goes past 99 hours? Or I guess the players are just manually keeping track of the hours past the 99'99" mark?

Tequila Mar 23, 2006 01:51 PM

No, it goes beyond 99'99''... Judging by the displayed numbers, 999'99'' is the maximum, since every missing digit in the play time is displayed with a "0", so since there are three of them at the very start, it's more than likely that it doesn't cap at 99 hours. Oh, by the way, FFX didn't cap it there as well.

Thank god. I've generally been avoiding the last 2 or so pages of posts. I'm not sure how much has been given away, but with terms like "final boss" and so forth, I didn't want to take any chances.

I also think it's pathetic for anyone who looks up screens or info of the final boss. That's like getting a new book and flipping right to the end. Unless the final boss is one of those last minute creatures like FFIX's Necro, you're ruining the story by jumping ahead like that.

That said, I do have a few questions regarding the story, as long as I get some spoiler-free answers of course.

1. Usually in every RPG, there's always one or two characters who unfortunately have to take a backseat when the story picks up, removing any focus or development in their story. Examples include DQVIII's Angelo, FFIX's Freya, Xenogears' Rico, etc. Does the same apply to any of FFXII's characters, or is this a rare case where every character gets a proper amount of development and closure? Considering the small main cast, it shouldn't be too hard to do. But I have a feeling someone like Fran will get forgotten when the story progresses. :(

2. Speaking of the characters, who's the fan-favorite so far? I've been wondering myself which character I'll end up liking the most. Basch has a deliciously dark story about him, closely resembling FFT's Delita (not evil, but isn't afraid to take evil measures for the greater good). Ashe received a lot of praise in another forum when she was unveiled, in the hopes that she could be "the next Celes." This would be nice, since there hasn't been a lead FF heroine who has emotional depth AND is strong enough to take care of herself since Tifa. I really dig Penelo's design though, since it's cute. Plus I like how she and Vaan are already a couple before the game starts (hasn't been done since FFIV's Cecil and Rosa).

3. Finally, I wonder how far this FF pushes the envelope. FFT was pretty dark compared to other FF's, including a pretty graphic amount of violence (like the monster who sacrificed himself for the final boss by shoving his own claws into his stomach, releasing a huge gyser of bloodspray), along with other dark themes like betrayal, devil worship, and I think even implications of rape somewhere. How far does FFXII go? I'm hoping Square hasn't interfered with the story because they want to keep things relatively clean (there hasn't been a major death since Aerith, and that took a lot of persuading for them to approve).

I keep thinking about the shots that have Pennelo tied up while a group of orcs hover above her. Of course I doubt anything would actually happen, but I do wonder if they would at least imply if the orcs would do something to her. That's assuming if they would even want to do something like that to someone who's not from their species.

As for characters in FF XII you have only main characters pushed to the first plan. You use tour team as an help in getting somewhere. Fran is not so pushed back as you think. It all depends on the way you look it.

Reks. I know we see him in game not much but he was one of my favorite so far. Besides I'm quite big in game girls lover so Fran would look awesome in playboy bunny costume =P

No no it's simple MMORPG style game with monster apers after certain amount of time and after death they just vanish. No horror stuff actions =).

Umm, I think someone requested the English Song Lyrics right?

Well suprisingly enough my Jap friend noted down the lyrics from Jap version. So I thought might as well for me to do the english version :D

Here I am retyping everything down ^ ^

-----------------------------------
Kiss Me Goodbye - Angela Aki

You say my love is all you need
To see you through
But I know these words are not quite true
Here is a path you're looking for
An open door
Leading the world you long to explore
Go, If you must move on alone
I'm gonna make it on my own

Kiss me Good-bye, Love's Memory
Follow you heart and find your destiny
Don't shed a tear, for loves' mortality
For you put your dream in my reality

As times goes by I know you'll see this of me
I loved enough to let you go free
Go, I will give you wings to fly
Cast all your fears into the sky

Kiss me good-bye, love is mystery
All of my life, I'll hold you close to me
Don't shed a tear, for love's mortality
For you put the dream in my reality

Kiss me good-bye, love's memory
You put the dream in my reality
--------------------------------------

There you have it, exactly as the ending song goes
*cries* such a moving and well composed song in this epic story~~

Double Post:
SORRY FOR DOUBLE POST, but both post seems long~
Lemme have an attempt at answering your question too ^ ^ But forgive me if I don't answer to your expectation and ya, no spoilers here :D

OMG FFIX boss is Necro, aww you ruined it for me >_< *sigh*
But yeah I tried to avoid those spoilers, but my Jap friends love to show off and send me emails even FAX me the pics of their findings... soo unavoidable~!

Well there is no such RPG game that gives EVERY character an equal importance(development) in the story. Well I haven't play such RPG yet! However in FFXII most characters are developed nicely, background story and relationships are told through out the game. There are a few suprising relationships that just pops out from no where, but we, as a player, will just have to accept the fact >_< As for Fran, she can be said as a minor-importance character, but her history and involvement in the story is not ignored since she plays 2 major parts in the development in this story. Just other characters somehow seems to empowered her interms of plot. Battle-wise... hehe shes da best~

My personal fav would be Basch so far, because of his background, VA, character desigh and all other factors. I think i know why Ashe is most ppls fav in the game, but telling you why may spoil it for ya.

Umm, this one is hard to answer, coz i can't really tell your measurement of 'dark'. However, if you are looking for unexpected twists, bribery, betrayl and other typical bad guys theme... well they are what FFXII pretty much revolve around with. But don't jolt your expection too high thou coz this is still Final Fantasy serie so the typical melodramatic scenes still occur.

Well lets just say that Penelo and Vaan are popular with the low class society, and they are like Robin Hood. I will leave the rest for you to imagine ;) I think my implication are stright forward enough *hehe*

Inhert Mar 23, 2006 10:25 PM

wait wait... what? ok I know that I really didn't search and look at the story or anything really about story of FFXII, but Penelo and Vaan are a couple!!? lol I thought they were brother and sister XD well I think it's cool, we don't see that really often(that a character is already in couple with another main charater at the start of the game)

Kensaki Mar 23, 2006 10:47 PM

The big question is will Vaan dump her for Ashe?(Don't ansver that) If so I'll be very dissepointed. Give us one FF without the two focal characters in the story have to end up as a couple...

Then again this is a Japanese game so meh.

CuteChocobo Mar 23, 2006 11:07 PM

I am still quite unsure about the use of 'couple' coz in Japanese term they used in the game Vaan referred Penelo as "Childhood friend" but where Penelo said once that their relationship is like "Siblings".

So I guess they are relationship are strong, but probably not to the level of being a 'couple' yet. ^ ^

@Kensaki
Your question answered with a bit of ending spoiler - Read at your own risk -:
This is NOT your normal FF. Even though there are times in the game it hints that Vaan have a strong feeling for Ashe, but that is because Vaan sees Ashe as a strong determined person. At the end both Penelo and Vaan are still together where Ashe went back to claim the country as rightful Queen.

Kensaki Mar 23, 2006 11:20 PM

I told you not to ansver that...

Now I had to watch to satisfy my curiousiy.:P Oh well it was kinda obvious.
