Also I still have & use my launch day PS1 and 2 so my experiances have been pretty good. (unfortunatly not everyone is as lucky as me sometimes) And I don't know about you guys but I paid $500 - 550 on launch day for my PS2, so 550 - 650 CAD for a PS3 really isn't that surprising.

:O (to all of it)

I suck at dealing with tech support. I'm not very assertive. Although, if I put down that much money, I'm sure I could be for long enough.

True, but dont forget about the swordplay. That would make that portion a bitch to play.

Kilroy, at what distance were you playing from the TV?

If you need some amount of space between you and the screen for some games to feel good, I think it's essential information for choosing the right size of TV.

DarthSavior Sep 19, 2006 04:33 AM

Sorry guys. I helped Gamestop make their Wii presale program a step closer to being successful. ;_; Traded 3 games and 6 DVDs. Also reserved Twilight Princess and Trauma Center.

Hmm, I dunno 1.5 meters? Incidently about the same distance between my chair and my tv in my room. But surely distance shouldn't play a role when playing console games? That blows in any case...

Yeah, kinda sucks if so - but maybe it's just personal preference.
In IGN Weekly Episode 23 he says he's more comfortable from farther away.

Where the hell do you live? I could have sworn this thing only took place in Hawaii and Guam.

BlueMikey Sep 19, 2006 09:37 AM

Heh, he's in Hawaii. :P So I guess at least part of something is accurate.

Thanks for that info Solis - I hadn't realized this was happening. I recently bought a DC mainly to play Rayman 2, so I have been very interested in the possibility of a good future Rayman platformer.

Slayer X Sep 19, 2006 09:35 PM

Sprouticus: That would be true, but from the looks of it the game gives you a bit of prep time to switch from FPS to sword game types, so I'm sure that it would be more then long enough to make the simple conversion, between the two.

Not sure if this was asked or not. But when the Nintendo Wi-Fi connector came out for the DS. It was also said it would work for the Wii. Anyone heard anything on this? I don't have a wireless connector but I have the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB transmitter. Hopefully it still works with the Wii as planned.

Slayer X Sep 21, 2006 11:43 AM

I remember Tech TV said once that it acted as a Wi-Fi connector period. And that if you wanted to you coul;d connect your laptop to it. Which would not surprise me because I can get a D-link USB -> Wi-Fi connector for around the same price as the Nintendo one, so why should it be any different?

Cobalt Katze Sep 21, 2006 11:57 AM

Okay so... I'm all in favor of the whole gameplay over graphics strategy.

But I have to say... Far Cry Vengeance for the Wii looks just plain shoddy. The UI is messy, the textures look blurry, and the polys look bare minimum for a system more powerful than the Xbox.

I mean let's just compare things here. Granted the screenshot may not be taken in the best flattering resolution, but still... if you release the first screenshots of a game that's due for release in a few months, they better look top notch.

Wii Version

Xbox Version

Not that I was going to pick it up anyways, but I really hope there's a lot more work to be done on this title.

Slayer X Sep 21, 2006 12:06 PM

What do you expect?? The Wii is barely more powerful then the GCN, which was barely more powerfull the the X-box1. So of course it's not going to look much better then the X-box one.

Krelian Sep 21, 2006 12:23 PM

The UI is indeed horrible, but then again, so was Red Steel's at first. As for graphics...

I'll agree, it's not exactly great, but it looks nice in scenes such as that.

Then, by your definition, shouldn't the Wii be more powerful than the Xbox?

I know there's a limit to what Wii can do graphically, but I hope it's far better than that shot. That's not just ugly, that's N64 ugly. :(

That's an X-Box screenshot of Instincts, not 360, so it should look as good if not better.

Aside from being blurry due to what looks like bad resizing, I don't even think the screenshots look shoddy so much as they look like a quick low-poly test build. If the final game looks like that, it'd be pretty ridiculous.

I'm hoping that's what that is :D As I said, just comparing what's out there.

I think even if it is a quick low-poly test build, it might have been a bad move to release those as the first impression shots.

Edit: Here's a screenshot from the recently leaked Ubisoft dealy that shows a better idea of what the actual game looks like, rather than the shoddy IGN shots:

The image name has "Concept HUD" in it though, so it might be a photoshop overlay.

I definitely agree that releasing these screenshots is a terrible move, and if I turn out to be wrong and those are shots of the final build, then it's completely embarrassing.

Looks better but it's a bit too dark to see if the textures are any good. Definitely better though...

Malmer Sep 21, 2006 03:02 PM

But look! They've updated the handles! They now consists of 3350 polygons each, spiced up with multitexture, bumpmapping shaders and whatnot! At the cost of the rest of the game, but you'll never be impressed by another in-game handle again!

In other news I'll be buying the white one at launch, and maybe sell it later in favor of the black one.
I've just bought a 2gb SD card and found the TV I want anyway so...

I'm your bitch :(

Yeah that's what I suggested to do since I believe Perrin Kaplin said that you could move your account over to a new Wii if you wanted for virtual console games.

Am I the only person who thinks we really don't need yet another FarCry game? The first one wasn't even that great.

You're not alone. I never took a liking to the original Far Cry. Maybe the ungodly AI was just a little to extreme for me.

What do you expect? GameCube was more powerful than PS2, and performed as well as Xbox with many titles (Metroid Prime 2, Resident Evil 4, etc). You think Wii is SUPPOSED to look WORSE than Xbox 1?
