Box art in all its.. glory..-ish..crap!

Also EuroGamer has some words. Possibly about the game.

Quote:

All the levels are laid out in exactly the same way as they were in the original, pleasingly, but Tiki himself has some smart new abilities, such as a double jump. He can also do a dash move, and even fly a bit if you hammer the jump button hard enough.

Tiki's also got a few more tricks up his sleeve when it comes to weapons. Once again, he comes equipped with a bow and arrow - but now you can use the shoulder buttons to aim. So, for example, if you need to jump down to a lower platform, you can line up a shot first and take out the enemy waiting below; bosses are a lot easier to take care of, too. In addition, you can charge up shots for a more powerful attack that will see off several enemies at once.

Most of the time, the bottom screen will simply display a basic map of the level you're on, but occasionally it'll switch to show the action taking place up top, with one small difference to the level design. And it's your job to spot this difference; it could be that there's a platform missing on the bottom screen, for example. Whilst still coping with all the usual enemies and the like, you'll need to glance between the two screens until you've found the difference, then touch its location on the bottom screen.
That sounds very useless and annoying!

The touch-screen also comes into play with a range of mini-games. You might find yourself doing a bit of fishing, or trying to keep Tiki balanced as he walks across a tightrope, or flicking him up to the top screen at just the right time so he lands in a moving basket. If you've got a friend with a copy of the game, you can play against each other, competing to see who can complete whatever task you've been set first. That's all there is as far as multiplayer options go, so don't go expecting a co-op mode.

At least there's no possible way this can turn out worse than Space Invaders Revolution. Reality won't allow it.

Oh hello dead thread, for the thousands of people looking forward to this ( :cmb: ), seems like they've gone and broken this too. Which is a complete shock considering how perfect the previous Revolution games have bee-oh

IGN UK's review!

Quote:

The traditional element of the game is challenging and fun, although Dreams' attempts to include touchscreen updates results in the fun factor falling on its face. For the majority of play the bottom screen displays a haphazard radar that loosely marks the locations of exits and keys. However, now and again, an 'event' occurs that requires you to tap or stroke the stylus across the screen to help Tiki out.

These events have been poorly implemented in the game and don't gel with the rest of the game at all. What's more, they take you out of the action at crucial points, like when you're timing a difficult jump. That goes double for the spot the difference sections, in which you must pick out slight changes between the top and bottom screens while you're negotiating tough platforming sections. Ridiculous.
YOU STUPID GARBAGE BIN DEVELOPERS. STOP FORCING URINE INTO THE TOUCH SCREEN, DON'T WANT TO TOUCH IT.

You quite literally have to dodge enemies on the top screen while spotting the difference between what's going on there, and what's going on the touchscreen. It's hard.

Oh and THEY REMOVED ALL WARP AREAS. On the first stage I noticed there's a warp area which is missing, and the ledges have been rearranged so you can't reach it. But you can reach it, it just isn't there.

Yeah I was playing it for a bit and I was confused :(

It was all LOOK AT THE TWO SCREENS AND TOUCH THE DIFFERENCE!!!

:20 enemies on screen:
:Can't see shit:
:random mash screen:

I think the difference was a random blue dot lurking in the middle or something. Who knows I was too busy fighting off things on floating pelicans:tpg:

Infernal Monkey Feb 3, 2007 04:15 AM

This is terrible. :( Leave that damn spot the difference junk to.. something! Else! Damn you farming these classics off to no-name developers, Taito! IT WAS EARTH ALL ALONG. This combined with news of the Rainbow Islands PSP update sucking even harder than the DS and you get one awesome day of news!

FatsDomino Feb 3, 2007 06:43 AM

Taito's next franchise to ruin is Snow Bros. Oh god I hope so. OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD.

Infernal Monkey Feb 3, 2007 07:17 AM

They'd probably turn it into a first person shooter and every two minutes the super fun action would stop so you could complete a dot to dot puzzle that wouldn't actually match up. =o

FatsDomino Feb 3, 2007 07:21 AM

If they add bullet time then I will buy 3 copies. =D

Okay yeah, I got this today. It's not Rainbow Islands Revolution style bad (also known as Superman 64 and Microcosm style bad) and it's not as brain dead and ugly as Bubble Bobble Revolution. Sitting somewhere in between! Opening doors with the touch screen made me roll my eyes out of their sockets though. I hope I get them back!

No hints of what the next title to be 'Revolutionized' is in the manual this time! Maybe they're giving up. Elevator Action Revolution plz, think of all the doors that could be opened then!

FatsDomino Feb 13, 2007 01:43 AM

Oh fuck yeah! Use the stylus to make your elevator go up and down! REVOLUTIONARY!

Infernal Monkey Feb 13, 2007 01:46 AM

There could even be the emergency call button, touch it with the stylus and use the microphone to talk to the maintenance guy! =D

"Can't help ya there buddy"
GAME OVER

EDIT: Finished the game last night. Had a lot of fun in the process. =) There was a trippy moment where I died and it actually sent me to heaven! Some of the touch screen mini games were pretty alright, the spot the difference thing that pops up every now and then was not one of them. The different remixed theme music for each level is rad. I still have some kiwi's to save though!
