I guess thats how the japanese pronounces it ? Rei-uhn. Sorry.. not really big on the j-language =/.

probably the zoids in the america version got localization, most of the translation here follow the original Japanese (like Rockman Exe Manga in our country, it's clearly using name from japanese, like Rockman, Netto, Meiru, etc)

I dont really know about it though...

I'm not too sure, but according to an article in Anime News Network,

Other titles currently scheduled to be released on Toonami Jetstream include such hits as Cartoon Network's original Toonami production IGPX and VIZ Media's Megaman NT Warrior series and the all-new Zoids Genesis.

So it looks like we'll be able to check it out within the next month or so.

Interesting. Even the Japanese pronouce it as "Raven". As in.."Reiven"

damn. One word: mistranslation.
:(
I would like to know how his name is written in katakana, perhaps the translator overlook some ten2 in the character.

Viz is doing the dub, eh? I'll hold judgement untill I see it for myself but my hopes aren't that high compared to thier current track record as far as when they do it aimed at kids (Naruto, Megaman NT, yugi oh etc.).

I love Zoids Chaotic Century and Guardian Force!

I too woke up early one morning to discover it after watching New Century Zero in the afternoons.

I also have a couple of Zoids models. They're a lot of fun to build and watch them walk around.

I think I've found the katakana you're looking for. I'm not much of a translator myself so have at it.

Raven - レイヴン

It's clearly Re-i-bu-n
I'm pretty sure the translator mistook ヴ ("bu", "vu") as ウ ("u", without tenten)
aggh. :(

Is this mistake prevalent in the entire manga series? I can't believe that a professional translator made a mistake like that.

eriol33 Jul 15, 2006 11:27 PM

Luckily only first volume has been published. I have contacted the company though, I hope they will do something about this.

The most stupid mistranslation I ever met here is when a translator mistook Byakko (びゃっこ) as Byatsuko (びゃつこ) in Samurai Deeper Kyo manga.

The translator mistook っ (which is put to make double sound in consonant) as つ (tsu)

but I could understand, sometime raw manga's furigana is just too small, which make it harder to translate.

EDIT: this meant the translator doesnt read Zoids series I guess. :D

Still though, if the translator isn't 100% sure that the characters are correct he should contact the company or the author himself to make sure.

Does he mispronounce Raven's name throughout the entire manga?

eriol33 Jul 17, 2006 10:21 PM

Yes, it's misprounanced in the whole 1st volume. I hope the publisher didnt mind to correct this at 2nd volume though, I have contacted the publisher.

Other silly mistranslation I found is in the local Ranma 1/2. In the first volume, the "P-Chan" was translated into "P-Honey". :D

But luckily, they seem to realize the mistake and changed it into "P-Chan" in the next volumes. ^^;

That is hilarious. :lolsign:

When will they be releasing Volume 2 of the manga? It would make sense that the company should contact you saying they've made the necessary corrections.
