Hot = I wanna fuck you
Pretty = girlfriend/wife material

Here's how I see it:

Appearance: Hot <------------------> Pretty <-----------------> Cute
Connotation: Desire <------------> Middle Ground <----------> Comfort
Attraction: Physical <------------> Partner <-------------> Emotional

Obviously I aim for the middle. I'm way more willing to go with a cute but less physically desirable girl as long as she has substance and character. I find that the girl I end up falling for is the girl that doesn't intially grab my attention physically. Yet, as I get to know her, she gets physical attractive to me just out of how we interact with each other.

I absolutely can't stand girls who focus totally on the physical but lack substance. I don't care how hot a girl is, if she's a substanceless, vain, self entitling bitch, the dick goes on limb. For some reason I seem to attract girls like this though.

I am more on the pretty side. Pretty is a good looking girl that alot of guys have good chances of being with. Hot is for pin up girls, something you look at to admire and google at.

Pretty seems more natural, to me. If I were serious about meeting someone of the opposite gender, I wouldn't want someone resembling a pin-up doll. I just bothers me in a way I can't really describe. Pretty has a more "human" element.

And why are you guys connecting a girls personality to her appearance? That's bullshit and you can't possibly be saying that seriously.

Hot vs Pretty is all about image. A hot and a pretty woman can be equally as attractive as one another but 'style' and 'vibe' are the defining features. I really doubt you can make a full and accurate assessment of a woman's personality as you see her walking down the street so I think this dimension does not really factor into the equation.

Although a lot of guys have been equating Pretty with Cute I really think they are two different things. While 'Pretty' and 'Hot' are defined by style and vibe, cute is a different look altogether. Almost 'juvenile' but not quite. Personally, I'd say that Hot < Pretty < Cute for me but I don't know that all guys feel this way.

I generally split girls into three categories: hot, cute, and beautiful.

In the discussion here, I could just lump cute and beautiful together into pretty. So yes, there is a difference between the two for me. I'd agree with some of the previous sentiments of hot being the body and pretty being the face. Hot is also never within my grasp, although I myself am not interested anyway.

As far as seeing someone on the street, you're right. But it's entirely possible for someone's personality to be so hideous that I stop seeing them as at all attractive. See: Ann Coulter.

doesn't anyone look for what's on the inside anymore. hot for me is beging good looking on the outside and kind with a touch of sass on the inside. pretty means being dolled up to hide what you look like.

I'm a little bit confused. It seems like you're all saying that a person can't be both pretty and hot. I think that if a woman is pretty, she can be cute on days when she feels like being cute, and she can be hot when she wants to look hot.

My sentiments exactly Alice. Although I also think that it's not even as separate as that; some people are both catagories merged into one, perhaps I could dare to say their looks reach perfection.

And to agree with everything that has already been said, I think hot is to do with pysical attraction, and pretty is a more emotional attraction.

I dont know we all want to be good men of wisdom and keep that saying "it's not about the looks' it's her personality", but we all know that a small percentage actualy practaces what we preach. I know not to many guys out there would actualy give an ugly girl a chance. Hot girls are usualy self centered, not always but they are. The simply everyday "cute" girls can be a veriaty of things and most everyday not so special guys will have better chances with them. Thats just me. I could be spilling loads of ignorant crap but then sucks to be me I guess.

I kinda break it down like this in hierarchy of attractiveness. Of course all of this is completely subjective.

Beautiful girls - Beautiful girls are at the top of the list. These are the type of girls that roll out of bed in the morning with no make up and still look stunningly gorgeous. These are a rare find.

Hot girls - Hot girls are similar to pretty girls as far as attractiveness of physical features, but they have a tendency to go out of their way to always look amazing. These girls are rarely seen without makeup or the latest fashions. Many have had breast augmentation. A good number of "plain" girls attempt to become Hot girls through cosmetic surgery and a shitload of makeup.

Pretty girls - Pretty girls are the "girl next door" type. They have attractive features, but aren't total knockouts. Pretty girls usually have a more level head and aren't as concerned with their appearance. They're already pretty, so why go to all the trouble to make themselves up all the time?

Cute girls - Cute girls are usually more petit in stature. They have very pretty facial features, but their body porportions are more condensed. They range in height from about 4'10" - 5'2" or 3". Cute girls are very similar to pretty girls. They look awesomely cute while pulling off a pony tail, an oversized hoody that comes down over their hands, and jeans.

Plain girls - Plain girls may have one or two somewhat striking features, but for the most part, they just kinda blend in. Plain girls are probably the most common. They aren't overly attractive, but couldn't be considered ugly.

Ugly girls - yeah they're gross. Not only do they have unattractive features, but usually have poor hygiene resulting foul odors.

Hot girls are the ones where my heart skips a beat and I think of how badly I would want to be with this girl... then I find out her personality isn't really that good..

Pretty are the ones I find attractive and have a personality I can relate to. Those are girlfriend material.

Hot? I think so.
 

Hot girls are way out there. More of a slutty look, but still pretty. Pretty is more of a term to describe non-slutty run of the mill girls. Peace out.

There are some Hott girls that are sweet too. Rarely you will find a treasure like that, with smarts, looks, and friendly personality and not a bitchy "fuck off, I'm fuckable, and u ain't" type.
But, it all depends, I don't think people will judge other people without the other girls typing them, as either being the same. People will get to know other people for judgment, ;p
