Crap games? Which is why so many companies try to emulate the game and fail miserabley? :) But as far as the genre definitions, they would probably have to be defined a little more, otherwise the idea is good.

What about Strategy-RPGs (Shining Force/FF Tactics/Disgaea, etc.)?
I think the terms "linear" and "non-linear" are too broad as well, and having a "Final Fantasy" term is a bit strict.

How about using "Turn based (FF, Dragon Warrior)", "Limited Freedom" (Baldur's Gate/KOTOR)", and "Live Action" (Morrowind/King's Field/Deuce Ex) etc.)

That would give you 5 total RPG sub-genres, which would make it more in line with your other sub-genres.

Just visit GameFAQs. They have every possible genre available. According to them, "driving" and "sports" are different. So racing simulators, flight simulators, mech simulators and so on should have their own catagory. There should also be an on-rail shooter catagory for Panzer Dragoon and Rez and so on. I don't even know what to class Jet Set Radio as. Probably sports/skating.

But like Skills said, Mario Soccer vs. Fifa isn't really fair.

To avoid sports becoming a popularity contest between the sports instead of the games. Divide those down further into sports. For most it will be a simple 2k vs EA setup but theres lots of room in the Soccer catagory, TIS, ProEvo, ISS, FIFA plus all historical sports games like All Star Basball, Tecmo Bowl etc should be eligable.
Don't forget one for extreme sports too eg. Tony Hawk, 1080°, Coolboarders etc.

Also, Light Gun Games. And second On Rails Shooters, Lylat Wars needs to be able to win something.
