or if you're a fan of seeing a long-running title finally take a step forward (and, arguably, I guess, in the right direction).
considering that the Spider-Man titles seem founded upon the principle of making Pete's life as miserable as possible (and they're at their best at those times), I can only see this as being a very good thing.

Definitely. This is true and always has been. Even in Ultimate Spider-Man.
