Actually, you can tell by watching the overall rating. That DOES change.

And from what I was seeing, it doesn't work. That's the only way I see that it could have been done. Maybe somebody can figure out something I can't.

value tart Jun 4, 2006 02:47 AM

I really wish I could see what other people rated me, as in the number, but apparently that's never gonna happen.

Sir VG Jun 4, 2006 02:53 AM

We were complaining about that before. On one hand it would make people be honest, but on the other hand sometimes people just don't want to disclose who they favor and who they don't.

Maybe we can have an option to "allow people to see what I rate people" in the User CP?

David Deluxe Jun 4, 2006 05:24 AM

I guess I'm the only one who's afraid of this little smart feature, right? :(

Musharraf Jun 4, 2006 06:01 AM

That's cool! This has always been one of GFF's coolest features, nice to see it back!

Grawl Jun 4, 2006 06:38 AM

Yay it's back~ I rate you a 5 now, okay?

map car man words telling me to do things Jun 4, 2006 07:07 AM

Yay, ratings!

Would it be possible to make it so that when you move your cursor over the little boxes, it'd pop up a text that shows you how many people have voted like it used to? That was a lot handier than showing only the average.

Kaleb.G Jun 4, 2006 07:29 AM

Posting here to get in on the voting action. Also the "Who Voted?" link doesn't work for me.

Freelance Jun 4, 2006 08:06 AM

Hey wow, thanks for making this, Bobo. Like someone said above, I'd also like to see who voted for me and what vote they gave me too, along with a little note on why they gave me that particular rating. That'd probably take too much work though, so I'm fine leaving it the way it is.

Hmm it seems one person voted for me already. I wonder who it is.

David Deluxe Jun 4, 2006 09:03 AM

Wahaha, somehow I feel bad now. I just took some time and gave dozens of people a rating, who I think are worth something above three, and I know that I still missed a lot of them, but since I also use ratings besides five and one, I destroyed so many 5.0 scores, it's unbelievable. Sorry, not everyone is amazing. And I'd be more pleased if you'd all rate you in a more realistic way.

*awaits acts of revenge* ='D

Franky Mikey Jun 4, 2006 10:34 AM

Glad to have this back. As others have said, though, it would be nice to be able to see who rated you what.

BlueMikey Jun 4, 2006 10:59 AM

The who rated you what would ruin the rating system as every rating would be based on "well, shit, he rated me a 2 so I'm gonna rate him a 2 too even though I think he's an okay guy and I'd probably give him a 4". Makes it all meaningless for the people who don't just vote everyone a 5.

YO PITTSBURGH MIKE HERE Jun 4, 2006 11:00 AM

Why won't it let me remove the vote for myself? And I didn't even vote for myself in the first place...

BlueMikey Jun 4, 2006 11:06 AM

If people are anal and keep track of their rating and who voted for them like every 5 seconds. :\

Admiral Amara Jun 4, 2006 11:38 AM

ChocoPie, Ratings... It's like old times again! Hooray, and thanks, bobo! Now I can go fanboy my favorite users again. Seriously, though, thanks a lot. You're really bringing back a lot of our favorite features. Woot.

FatsDomino Jun 4, 2006 12:23 PM

I still want to know what the code is. What VG gave me I think just turns adds or removes the rating you give a person. That's not what I want. I want for people to click 1 to 5 in my sig to rate me.

That who voted you what thing is yet another recipe for disaster and potential BS if you ask me. I'm sure some people would get SUPER anal over it or something if they got a 4 from one of their friends instead of a 5.

bobo Jun 4, 2006 01:22 PM

1) We have talked about this many times in the past and decided that showing ratings defeats the purpose of the rating system. People will just vote people the ratings they received.

2) You cannot vote directly from a link anymore. You need to do it from the user's profile.

FatsDomino Jun 4, 2006 01:26 PM

Awwww... we can't really? Damn. I'll have to remove that bit of code I've been toting for over a year now. :(

Can the tooltip that appears when you hover over your rating change from whatever it currently is to how many votes you have, like it used to be?

This would require too many SQL queries per thread page load so it would add a considerable amount of processing to the GFF server.

Rats =I

Franky Mikey Jun 4, 2006 02:02 PM

Apparently it's still possible to go about and hand out a bunch of ratings without allowing others to rate you back.

I thought pretty much everyone agreed that was a glitch in the old system that badly needed to be fixed. Except it never happened. But today, you can make it happen, bobo. Seriously. To hell with the cowards. Make it so someone needs to have ratings enabled on themselves to rate others, and so the ratings they have submitted don't count anymore if they suddenly choose to disable them. Either you're in the system, or you're out.

A few years ago, a member who was eventually banned gave out 1s to everyone who flamed him in his own thread. Of course, he had ratings turned off for him. So I like Face's idea.
