Help me find an RPG + What are you waiting to come out? + Which series do you follow?

I feel that the last real good RPG was DQ8. I don't see anything particularly awesome coming out in the forseeable future, either. Can anyone recommend a current generation RPG (GC, PS2, XBOX, GBA, DS) that is worth it? I'll be sure to read about it on gamespot.

Plus, what are you waiting to come out in the RPG realm?
I think DQ: Yangus might be coming out.

Finally, which RPG series do you follow "to the end" and why?
I used to follow FF but apparently not to the end. FFX-2 and FF12 may be the first FF's that I'll never own in my life.
I'm a DQ follower for life. I can't get enough.
Finally, Shining Force is a series I love, but sadly it was taken over by Sega, whereas the original company that made them was Camelot.

Shadow Hearts From the New World just came out last week and it's pretty good thus far, 13 hours in. It's the first RPG that I've played since DQVIII.

Suikoden V is coming out March 21st in the US, which I am looking forward to. I'd say that the Suikoden series is one that I will continue to follow until they release a couple of really bad ones in a row. Even Suikoden IV, which had plenty of flaws, was not a bad game, it had its redeeming qualities. I expect Suikoden V to be at a quality somewhere around that of Suiko II and III, both of which I really enjoyed for various reasons.

So basically go get Shadow Hearts From the New World and then in a couple of weeks go pick up Suikoden V.

Godai Mar 12, 2006 04:53 PM

I'm with russ and Suikoden. It's coming out soon, and it looks great. I enjoyed IV more than most people seem to have, and I loved III. Of course I & II are classics, in the good sense.

Rydia Mar 12, 2006 04:57 PM

I'm planning to get Suikoden V and Kingdom Hearts II when they come out later this month.

I also tend to follow the Final Fantasy series, Grandia, and Suikoden. There are others as well, but if I were to stick with three to follow, those would be my top choices.

Grundlefield Earth Mar 12, 2006 05:08 PM

For the first two questions the obvious is The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblvion (March 21st). Going to be the best RPG ever. Plus you wont need another RPG for like a billion years.

The series I follow is the above, Bioware series like Baldurs Gate and KOTOR, Final Fantasy, and Grandia.

Merged Borg's thread with Denicalis' thread about upcoming RPGs.

Golfdish from Hell Mar 12, 2006 09:31 PM

Ones I'm looking forward to (either out already or upcoming):

Rogue Galaxy
Suikoden V (looks incredible and I haven't been excited about a new Suikoden game since part 2. Six-person battles are the way to go.)
Wild Arms 4
Atelier Iris 2 (I really loved the first one)
Disgaea 2
Shadow Hearts 3 (want to look at the interpretation of America in the 1920's and this would be my first time playing the series as well).

And my most anticipated RPG probably ever: Valkyrie Profile 2. More of the greatest battle system ever with more backstory and better graphics from the original. Also: One of my most anticipated soundtracks.

SouthJag Mar 12, 2006 09:48 PM

I think the only other RPG I'm really anxiously awaiting is Rogue Galaxy, if for no other reason than the team developing it -- Level 5. It looks great and hey, if Level 5 says it'll be one of the largest-scale RPGs ever, I believe them.

Rogue Galaxy is pretty high on my list, although it worries me that we haven't heard a thing since it Japan release last year. There are of course rumours floating around about a summer release, but I personally have my doubts about it.

My most anticipated games are Shadow Hearts 3, I have it already but I can only play on my PS2 during the weekends, and Suikoden V, since it takes place in one of my most anticipated regions since the first games.

CrimsonSerenade Mar 15, 2006 05:39 AM

Disgaea 2 and Valkyrie Profile 2. I had been anticipating Kingdom Hearts II, but with all the delays (it was scheduled to come out Winter 2004 the first time it was talked about), it sort of fell off.

With sequels coming out to my two favorite RPGs of all time, I'm definetly waiting to see these come out. Disgaea had a massive amount of gameplay to it, a game that I've dedicated over 300 hours to, and Valkyrie Profile, a game with a battle system I couldn't put down and a great concept storywise. I can't wait for these 2 games to come out.

Phantasy Star Universe. This is the only RPG I want right now. It was supposed to be released on March 30th in JPN, but now it's release date is "2006". :( COME ON SONIC TEAM.

ZeroSlash Mar 20, 2006 10:32 PM

I'm really looking forward to Atlus's upcoming RPG releases, mainly Yggdra Union. I loved Riveria a good deal and knowing that YU is made by Sting really had me looking forward to it. Metal Saga looks interesting if it's as open ended as advertised which I look foreward to after playing both DDS games. They were good, but to linear for my taste. Super Robot Taisen Original Generations looks to be a nice SRPG for the mech lover that I am.

No. Hard Pass. Apr 20, 2006 07:37 PM

WHERE IS MY CHILDREN OF MANA, SQUARE ENIX? (Actually, I hear it's more LoM than SoM, so I don't care) I also hear the new Seiken will have little in common with SoM. "We made one of the greatest games ever, now let's actively ignore it!"

Thanks guys. Thanks a bunch.

SouthJag Apr 30, 2006 01:13 AM

Well now that Rogue Galaxy and Tales of the Abyss have both been confirmed for a U.S. launch, I'm primarily looking forward to both of their releases this year above all other console RPGs. There's also Xenosaga 3 to consider.

As far as the PC goes, like many others I'm awaiting the arrival of the World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade expansion. For the handhelds, the Xenosaga I & II release for the DS will finally convince me to purchase the system, and then Landstalker, Crisis Core, Blade Dancer, (potentially) Legend of Heroes II and of course Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth are all lining themselves up for my PSP.

Hot damn, what a good year this'll be, providing all of these get released in 2006.

Summonmaster Apr 30, 2006 08:59 PM

I reiterate Disgaea 2 and both upcoming VPs...two of the sexiest rpgs ever having follow-ups are no-brainers.

This is a LONG way from now, but considering my unhealthy love for Wild Arms 3 and Wild Arms 4, I am positively ecstatic about the eventual Wild Arms 5.

Omega Weapon May 14, 2006 10:13 AM

Front Mission 5 - can't wait for some more wanzer action to go with its excellent soundtrack.

Final Fantasy XII - The demo was too much fun so I'm greatly anticipating this game.

Tales of Legendia - as long as it doesn't get trapped like Symphonia did right after Disc 2 started I should be enjoying this game a lot. I'm pretty sure I know the idiot who wrote recursion into that game's stages at Wallachia but the new recursion-destroyer program one of my friends wrote should fix that game pretty easily.

Nintendonomicon May 14, 2006 02:54 PM

Final Fantasy III for the screen that is dual.
'nuff said.

Also, Dragon Quest Swords: Needlessly Long Subtitle for Wii. I've never played a Dragon Quest game, so I'm looking forward to this one bigtime.

Especially with that pointer controller. The possibilities are just endless :D. Like from attacking normally or performing spells.
