It took them long enough to do this. Scott's actually been wanting to do this for at least three years. Unfortunately, Jerry Perenchio (co-executive producer and owner of the rights to the Theatrical Cut) refused to give permission for the Theatrical Cut to be re-released, due to some grudge with Scott.
I don't know how they managed to convince Perenchio to finally give the go-ahead, but finally I can quit waiting for the DVD-set. And I get to see the new cut in theaters (too young to have seen either of the others). Hell yeah! |
Maybe in the final cut Deckard can be Mercer. Like the book.
|
That's impossible, as incorporating Mercerism into this movie would require nothing short of a remake.
EDIT: And based on the difficulty most seem to be having adapting Phillip K. Dick material properly, that's the last thing you want. |
I'd certainly love to see this in theaters. Kind of like when I saw Alien re-released in theaters a few years ago. Fantastic stuff.

Seems to me like they're putting all four version in ONE Disc Set. |

Anyhoo, the way they explain it makes it seem so. We'll just have to await further news. |

So just wait until solid details emerge on the box set.
Redux may not be as good as the original cut, but some of the scenes like the dinner one I very much enjoyed. The real tragedy is that there is no director's commentary on either version... |

So yeah, I only wish we could get the original cut on DVD. =( |

I just wish we could se it this year and not wait until 2007, but anyway, just the news it's coming is already good enough. |

Studio: Let's fight.
Director: Why? Studio: Well, we want to make your movie look very cool in posters and previews, but then make it suck once it comes out. Director: Why do that? Studio: Well, we'll film like 120 extra minutes of footage, and then release 12 different versions of the movie over the next 134 years to milk this sucka for all it's worth We need you to fight with us so we look like the bad guy and you can sweep in like the good guy and announce that you're finally getting the version you want with the 7th release. Director: Does this mean more money for me? Stuio: Yes. Director: I'm in. If I can trade in my previous version to get the "real" version for free then I'm in, otherwise: meh. |
Like Rick Deckard, I'm bringing this thread out of retirement.
I just watched The Final Cut, and it's every bit as brilliant as the Director's Cut, if not more so thanks to the stunning new transfer. I got the giant briefcase set for Christmas, and I haven't even begun to scratch the surface yet. It's a remarkable set. Anybody else pick it up? |

So was this final cut actually in theatres?

Bought the Final Cut on HD DVD a week or so before Christmas with awesome Granny money. I'd previously only seen it on VHS and the odd airing of the theatrical cut on SciFi. I pretty much cried the first thirty minutes because it was so beautiful.
|
I saw the Final Cut in theaters and my brother got me the briefcase set for Christmas. So fucking awesome. Man that set is incredible. I'll probably bring in some of those extras to work for display purposes.
|
I got the briefcase DVD set off of Amazon. It's actually my first time watching the movie. It was so good, I sat through 3 different versions of it in one night (The final cut being my favorite). Great purchase!
EDIT: What's everyones opinion on the whole voice over situation? |
