Yeah, Sonic isn't really about the platforming, Sonic is about blazing through the levels as fast as you possibly can. If you want a platformer, play a Mario game.

Inhert May 19, 2006 01:34 AM

I not sure about this game.

I looked at this gameplay footage and I find it very boring... but the way you control it seem kind of fun

I still find the new sonic on ps3 and 360 look way more fun then this one
(look at the extended E3 trailer and I think the level design seem A LOT better)

Sin Ansem Jun 22, 2006 08:02 PM

^Most people shoot that one down since it's in essence Sonic Adventure 1 in Shadow the Hedgehog packaging.

Also I'd like some new level screenshots plz.

Torte Jun 23, 2006 02:48 AM

It's looking like a reflex-based game, which I agree with acerbandit, is a great return to form for Sonic. Let's see if it can match the speed of Rush heh!

scotty Jun 23, 2006 03:09 AM

wow, this is probally the first Sonic game I like enough to buy! (not counting old awsome Sonics) I like the idea of a race/platform aventure type game and I am glad they havn't introduced any lame characters... yet :O

Check out the AWESOME sonicwildfire.com banner. It's a fan site for a game which isn't even released though, but I'll still laugh at it. Hopefully the game will be oh so much better than this banner's quality, because Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog were pretty boring Sega games.

Well, I haven't actually played Shadow the Hedgehog. Can I judge it? I think I will. Yes, Shadow the Hedgehog sucks even though I haven't played it. Everyone's said it's terrible though, so I'll stick with that. The original Sonic Adventure was pretty fun, so if they could add something which someone wouldn't literally breeze through it'd be nice.

The controls of all 3D Sonic games have been entire shit. I say this because collecting rings while you've gained speed was hard, because you'd end up shooting HARD LEFT or HARD RIGHT with the analog stick. It wasn't like collecting rings was essential or anything but it was still annoying.

Shadow the Hedgehog should not be hated for politicals reason (he SOLD OUT TO PRETEENS! OMG TEH GUNZ! SAW-NIK NEEDS NO STORYLINE!), yet it seems to be the cool thing to do nowadays.

Shadow was a VAST improvement over Heroes. It shouldn't win any awards, don't get me wrong, but aside from Metal Sonic Heroes was the worst 3-D Sonic game by far, not Shadow.

Forsety Sep 29, 2006 09:27 AM

That doesn't really make any less of a shitty game. Just because something is less shitty than something else, does not mean the game in question is not also shitty. Yeah, I used the word shitty a lot because Shadow the Hedgehog was, in fact, totally shitty. =(

Can you measure the vast improvement in... millimeters?

You have a point. But yeah, that actually was my point--Shadow is ten times less shittier than Heroes, yet it gets more hate just because it's Shadow, whom all the 2-D fanboys loathe with a passion. :/

Was a fun rental, but I'd rather not buy it kthnx.

Hate Shadow for shitty gameplay, not because he's fucking SHADOW.

Elixir Sep 29, 2006 10:45 AM

Shadow's a fine character. I mean "fine" by "ok" meaning "decent". Although that shiny new hedgehog I'm not too thrilled about, because Sonic Team keep bringing in new characters for completely anonymous reasons. But Yuji Naka's ditched them, so expect success for the new Sonic title.

Really, Shadow wasn't the problem, it was the FUCKING GUNS. And CARS. What kind of mainstream audien- oh, mainstream in general. Seriously I wish they'd just put more effort into level design, traps and so on, instead of making everything 2fast2furious to appeal to graphics whores.

Dubble Sep 29, 2006 12:11 PM

Most of the reason I've seen for he Shadow hate is that he's pretty much a clone thats just ANGST ANGST ANGST EMO all the time. I must admit too that the guns and driving (Why do we need some kind of fake ass GTA style gameplay in a game where the characters RUN FAST) were just totally nonsensical and useless additions to the series. Shadow's game kind of struck me as fluff with no substance.

avanent Sep 29, 2006 03:44 PM

If this is sonic done right in 3d, and I enjoyed the other 3d sonics...

:cow:

should this be awesome then?

ignore the cow.

Shaodw is kinda cool, but yes he appears to be a marketing ploy for the emo angst goth individuals.

I have played a demo of both the Wii version and the XBox 360 version. Both are amazing. The controls on the Wii version are really simple and the game has an instant charm. The one on the XBox has the fiddly controls inherited from Adventure 2. The Wii's outing into the Sonic world is awesomely smooth and very very pretty. Its noticably faster and cleaner than the 360 one.

(I work for a Video games magazine if your wondering in the UK, thats how I have played the Wii version).

Personally I think Sonic is coming back big time and im probably gonna buy the Wii for Sonic alone, as Mario Galaxy is not the best game I have ever played. Shame they went for gimmicks and lost marios charm.

surasshu Oct 11, 2006 06:29 AM

The gameplay reminds me of those pseudo-3D bonus levels in old Sonics, like those in Sonic 2 and stuff. I'm liking it a lot! The biggest thing I'm worried about so far is the music I'm hearing in the background of this video. It's not exactly quality material.

That picture kicks ass and reminds me why I actually LIKE Sonic's post 1998 design.

Oh, and the pictures in the link are nice too.

Dubble Nov 24, 2006 10:23 PM

After the disaster of the Sonic 1 port and either lukewarm or total UGH reactions to Sonic 360, it will take a lot more than pretty pictures to make this game worth bothering with.

The Wii Sonic is pretty much the LAST VESTIGE of whether any future Sonic games are even worth salvaging anything for quite a while. Cause as it stands - the current outcrop is pretty crap.

SuperSonic Nov 25, 2006 12:13 AM

Watched the e3 demo and I must say it looks pretty good. I'm gonna have to get used to the tilting controls but that shouldn't be a problem. The sliding against a wall looks pretty cool...it reminds me of when Snake was doing that in the Blast Furnace from MGS. For the most part, it looks pretty much like when you had to go really fast in the 360 game.

Once again, I can't say anything final until after I've played the game even though the last game was freakin awesome. And hopefully after this game, maybe they'll give Jason the boot and Ryan the thumbs up. :D

Even for a Sonic game. D:

2D Sonic was on rails, if you remember.

And the point of Sonic is replayability and multiple paths through each zone. Speed is the other main thing I expect in a Sonic game.

If they can get those two things right and keep the game simple, I will be happy.

lemonmanko Nov 26, 2006 04:43 AM

i was actually shocked that the new sonic for xbox360 failed
it looked so bad ass and even when i was watching the review (gametrailers)
it looked Awesome
i was one of the ppl that actually enjoyed sonic adventures
i guess ppl aren't liking sonic in 3d in any format

but i have high hopes for this sonic
its fast pace/graphics are Awesome/uses the controller well
and sonic is alone again FINALLY jeez forget that team shit

if sonic does well that just opens another door for nights wii

Nah. If 2D sonic was on rails, he would run forward automatically and all you'd have to do is time your jumps.

Dubble Nov 26, 2006 05:44 AM

I don't know why people are so hung up about the rails things. Personally I think this is a direction they should have tried a long time ago.

It's been what? Five games now and they've barely gotten free roaming 3D Sonic's correct? Sonic is the only series with time time that I've seen get progressively worse with each game instead of better. Perhaps it being on rails will force them to try it and approach/correct it from a simpler perspective. I say perhaps because this is Sonic Team and a lot of the talent from that place is obviously long gone and thier current track record doesnt give one much to go on... =\

I may be misunderstanding this then. I interpreted "on rails" in a 3D context to mean you could only move forward or backwards.
