I have a pretty kick ass spaceship I made (I used to use Legos for HOURS), too bad I don't have a digital camera to show it off.
I was really good at Legos, I could work with whatever you gave me and create a masterpiece.

Cyantre Mar 10, 2006 09:53 PM

Legos, are by far the best childhood toy... EVER.

Well, maybe, but they definately do bring out the engineer out in all of us. It's fun to see how weird of a tower one can make before it falls over.

Is that the super ship from the Robotech/Macross series?

You mean the SDF-1? I don't know... the cockpit area (the topmost part) looks different, and I remember there being a gap between the two long protruding 'arms'. It looks different. Maybe its one of those 'inspired-by' designs?

I have a 20 gallon bin full of legos, a bag of built legos (which by now probably needs extensive repairs), and an actuall lego drawer storage device thing filled with legos too. If I had the room to put finished sets I would probably try and build as many of the old sets that I could.

The new space sucks, too much StarWars. I liked when they were original and had Space Police, M-Tron, BlackTron, and Ice Planet. Every guy in my grammar school must have owned at least one Ice Tunnelator and could build it with their eyes closed. =P

I still can And I do miss the space police as well as the mining sets. your right though ther is too much starwars crap out there right now, They havent come out with anything new for awhile, they need to go back to short term projects like the sub sets they had for awhile, (now discontinued) also the star trek sets (I'm a trekkie so... yeah)

Found on deviantArt

That is pretty cool. took me a second to get it but hey i'm tired so...
and the inner ring on the gate dosent look like it is attached to anything, it looks like the chevrons are keeping it in place, so it can rotate freely.

I like Firefly, but I would still rather they make something original than just design something already made. Originality made Legos fun because you got to use your imagination. Almost everything Lego is either Harry Potter, StarWars, or Bionicle... which isn't too bad, but those aren't true Legos, those are more Technic Legos.

GarretThe Thief Mar 14, 2006 01:03 PM

I agree, the new lego basicly makes you follow the guidlines of whatever it is you bought wheres the older sets you could mix and match all the diffrent sets together and make something compleatly original, i used to make almost whole citys, (15\15ft room)

and a correction on my earlier post the inner wheel is not held in by the chevrons but it extends into the outer ring where it sits nicely in there and could more then likly turn with minimal trouble

Cyantre Mar 14, 2006 01:07 PM

All of the different sets were great in the past because they let you use your imagaination. StarWars and Harry Potter already have a story, so when you play you're pretty much just following along with the story already laid out for you with slight variation.

With the castle and space sets before you created the story and the imaginary play was just better. They should rerelease those old sets.

I have no pictures of my lego creations to upload, which is sad - however, since I'm not an obsessive Lego collector, I had limited resources to work with. I once build a three-decked Star Trek style ship, roughly the size of a Defiant class vessel, with a crew of 25+. I'd color-coded the officers and crew members' uniforms. The bridge was a double-bridge, and I'd contructed a "turbo lift" that went from the bridge deck to the main deck. There was a double-open hanger bay at the front, with a custom-made shuttle inside, a bar in the middle, some measure of spartan quarters, a full Engineering area in the back with the Warp Core, Captain's quarters, a meeting room, a transporter room, and the bottom deck was the weapons deck with the primary weapons systems and stuff. It never got fully completed, mostly because I ran out of flat pieces for the floors on the main deck, but hey.

why I suck:
Not only was it left unfinished, but it no longer exists, either. When it was being built, I was unable to create a uniform color scheme, given my limited resources. :(

I think I've got pictures back home, I'll look next time I'm there.

Yeah, it was a fun project, and took a lot of time, mostly because I didn't get marathon sessions with it often (attending school, having a job, maybe a life). I'll see what I can do about getting some of the shots I took of it.

LJ, those are absolutely awesome! I think the Stargate takes the cake though. That is genious. Do you guys remember that Lego guitar that surfaced on the net a while ago? This is one of the best things made of Lego i have ever seen. this thread makes me miss the good ol' days of playing with Lego ;__;

GarretThe Thief Mar 14, 2006 02:21 PM

I know what you mean. I had to give my lego up a few years ago... that was a sad day in history (tear)
