Yeeeeeaah. I just started playing it and it's kind of tedious. Cringe-worthy story, no sense of danger or excitement. The only hard part is maybe switching between the two modes to get something done. I'm about 45min in and I can already tell I'm not going to like it. Hell, even 15min in and I felt like I was just going through the motions.

The things I pre-order for Amazon credit. =\ Oh well, that'll be $20 I can put toward Tetris for DS.

My favorite parts are when all the critters start clambering to get to their places in a room like they forgot that they were supposed to be on set when Samus walks in.

"Oh shit! It's the hunteerrrrr. Everyone! Get in there and walk aroouuunnnnd."

"But I just made cooffeeeeee."

So basically every room.

Has anyone else experienced the....erm....wonderful over the shoulder bits yet?

FatsDomino Sep 2, 2010 11:10 AM

Slow Resident Evil 4 walks on the beach with Samus indicate that another cutscene is about to occur. They are integral to gameplay. It let's me know that I can relax because story time. It is my most favorite time of day.

Not even, there is a sequence where you have to walk around a giant room at the pace of Marcus Fenix WHILE AIMING looking for something in specific to look at.

It is some dog fucking because it takes 83 years to walk from one end of the room to the other.

Does she hold her hand up to an ear piece while this is happening?

SuperSonic Sep 2, 2010 12:40 PM

No, but she does go into the female restroom.

FatsDomino Sep 2, 2010 12:53 PM

cuz samus is a giiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrl

also i totally tried to get her to go into the stall that had its door slightly ajar

Having beaten this just now, I've come to the conclusion that this is an alright Metal Gear Solid game.

That and the forced first person scenes really betray the game's railshooter roots. Along with all the obnoxious railroading, of course.

It truly is pigfuck disgusting.

But this brings up another point.

With the heavily scripted sequences, especially with the...erm...."upgrade procedure", along with the height limit on bomb jumping and limited shinespark mechanics, what sort of metagame is this going to have? Is sequence breaking even possible outside of maybe getting a few missile expansions early?

Dr. Uzuki Sep 7, 2010 06:24 AM

Conclusion reached. Fuck this game.

Seems so, given that previously visited areas are often locked down while they have nothing story-relevant to offer. One has to wonder whether the devs were just so enarmored with their plot or simply too lazy to foolproof those areas against every intermediate upgrade level.

Personally, I suspect both, given how often the game stumbles over developer vanity and blatant oversights elsewhere. That corny thumbs-up/thumbs-down salute, among other things would have never made it past a non-Japanese test audience. Nice going for a series that traditionally sells better in the West.

I'm about halfway in now, and I just really fucking hate this game.

Between the shitty controls, bad dialogue/plot and the retarded "hey, let's go to a over-the-shoulder 3rd person view to add suspense~!" and the ridiculous "Where's Waldo?" bullshit where you have to find the little part of your surroundings... yeah, I really hate this game.

It makes me yearn for the Gameboy versions, and Prime.
