I'm just honestly surprised; you appear to know personally half of all the Secret of Evermore fans in the entire world.
|
Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen
Anything made by Quest actually. |
Chrono Trigger is overrated, if only because it's only the second-best RPG on the SNES.
After 'nigma. |
Wait....when did Secret of Evermore become loved? I mostly remember long posts ranting and raving that "How dare they bring out this shitty half assed Secret of Mana ripoff game instead of a true and proper Secret of Mana sequal!".
As for myself, I found Secret of Evermore alright, but not the hellhole that the haters preach or this lost hit that the lovers claim. I still cry for the fact that almost nobody knows about the glory of Warsong. I really enjoyed Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen. I don't recall it having a huge following though. It wasn't hated on like Evermore, but I rarely recall people praising it. This might be because like Warsong you couldn't find the damned game anywhere. |
Hint hint nudge nudge I'm being a jerk~

I'll say it. SD3 was alright at best. To me, the Mana series took a total downturn when they got rid of the attack % charge bar and instead replaced it with BUTTON MASH BUTTON MASH SPECIAL ATTACK. If you look at how the gameplay changed in the SD games, SD3 fits perfectly in with their removal of everything that made SoM the best action-RPG ever (sorry Terranigma, you get a close #2).
SoE was a game I really wanted to love, but the alchemy system (goddamn that clay hardball spell was so strong until I got into antiquity ) and general blah-ness of it ruined it. |

Earthworm Jim 1,2 - played them, beat them. Thought it had great art direction and humor but was otherwise unimpressed.
Secret of Mana/Evermore - boring battle and lack luster plot. SD3 was sooo much better. UN Squadron - I like shmups and this game definitely let me down big time. Especially after it was proclaimed best shmup of all time by screwattack. I'm glad people are mentioning Terranigma in a positive light. One of the most underated and underplayed SNES games. Man, I loved that game. |
The only reason Terranigma is underplayed is that it never got released in NA. It's pretty much universally loved.
|
Earthworm Jim 2 seemed like it was trying way too hard to be funny. I think the first was good though.
Personally, I always thought that the Legend of Zelda for the SNES was overrated. I truly feel that while it was solid, there are many games that are far better for the SNES. |

I was going to bring this game up but decided it would just unleash too much of a backlash from people who still see their experience with it through rose-colored glasses. A Link to the Past was an okay game but it wasn't groundbreaking, nor was it even particularly original. It was just a retread of most of the things that made the original Legend of Zelda good, with some updated graphics. The Dark World was pretty gimmicky; even by the time the SNES era came about, the idea of an identical-but-sinister alternate dimension was already starting to get played out. When viewed in the pantheon of Zelda games as a whole, Link to the Past is pretty mundane. Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker and hell, even Minish Cap have more charm and replay value. It may not be 100% fair to compare later games to the early, foundation-forming titles in the series , but by equal timeframe comparison, Super Metroid was also only the third in its series and that game was leaps and bounds a more inspiring and thrilling experience than Link to the Past managed to be. But nostalgia plays a large part in fondness and it's hard to dislike Link, so I can see why people think Link to the Past is better than it truly is. |

I mean I suppose yes the fact that the original Legend of Zelda was top-down makes this game a hack also that it features a dude named Link |
The knee-jerk U SO RONG reaction to my opinion is only helping to prove how overrated A Link to the Past actually is.
|
Yes, Crash. And all that Weird Al that's bowed out in round 1 of SAUS over the years? You were right about all that, too. Your taste is impeccable.
|
That would totally apply if I nominated any of it, moron.
|
Well, maybe it wasn't SAUS. You've nominated Weird Al for something, and got all butthurt when nobody else liked it. We have a different song contest every week here, fuck if I can keep them all straight.
Doesn't change my point. Edit: Just checked, you've nominated Weird Al not once, but twice for SAUS. Moron. |
My taste is my own. This doesn't make me any more wrong than it makes you right.
Doesn't invalidate my point. |
So the point of this thread was to point out things that everyone agrees to be overrated?
Am I the only one that sees the inherent flaw in this I mean I think he's wrong too but jesus dudes http://s3-llnw-screenshots.wegame.co...98610244_l.gif V no see uh you guys appear to be confusing "overrated", a subjective notion, with "bad", an objective notion, which The whole POINT of an OVERRATED!!! thread is to dis on games other people liked it's kind of inevitable |
"I never did that. Moron." "You did. Twice." "Well okay yeah. But still somehow you're wrong."
Wow. |

As far as the topic goes, I have always thought Star Fox was pretty overrated. I guess the graphics were kind of impressive at the time, but the strict flight paths made it feel really underwhelming. |
