I've watched a number of shows with my dad, and he liked quite a few of them. In fact, he even bought a couple of them for himself (Akira, Berserk, Hellsing, Outlaw Star, Trigun, and the Vampire Hunter D flicks).

He doesn't seem to like the style of anime comedies, so we haven't watched many of them (I think they remind him of Astro Boy or something, since he watched it when he was a kid.)

My mom couldn't care less. She doesn't like anything animated, calling it all kiddie (She doesn't even like The Simpsons!), but she doesn't disapprove it.

My older brothers are the reason I watch animé, they introduced me to most of my favourite series. My dad doesn't care for it but my mother wants to know more about it. In fact, she proposed that we have an animé day together where we watch all my favourite episodes. The only thing she doesn't like is the animation style, she thinks it's wooden and choppy.

I first watched anime about seven years ago. When I began following more than one title, my parents just assumed that it was a hobby in addition to playing video games.

Even when I did live at home, I had control over how much anime I would watch, so my parents never had to set any limits. My mother once watched the AMG movie with me some years ago and enjoyed it.

The only comment I received from my immediate family involved the issue of watching the anime with Japanese audio and English subtitles. They wondered why the anime wasn't in English, and if it was difficult to read subtitles each time I watched an episode.

My dad disappoves of anime, to him any show that is animated is for kiddies, no exceptions, which is why I don't watch when hes around, its not worth the hassle. My mom however isn't as condescending about anime, but shes more interested in the music than the anime itself.

My parents don't really care that i watch it that much. They however seem to think that it's just a phase i've been going through and that's it's all a wasye of money and hard drive space. They also think it's really kiddy and it's all for little children. My Dad likes to take the piss whenever i'm watching it by making some comment about the Japanese which irritates me. My mates all think i'm a bit sad as well for watching it but personaly, i don't care what they think.

My parents have never really cared. They just don't understand why I watch cartoons. Meh. It doesn't bother me.

If your folks think anime/manga is childish, show 'em a chapter or two of Berserk or Hellsing. That'll set 'em straight... =p
Just because there's BLOOD and DARK VAMPIRES doesn't automatically mean it's not childish.

Eh, my mother doesn't care. With the stuff I buy she's like: okay. The stuff I download, she's like: see if you can transfer it onto a disc before it becomes licensed. She'll maybe see something risqué and give it a curious glance for more than a couple of seconds. As far as hentai goes, well...she wanted me to help her find stuff on that. She devised this moneymaking scheme that was something like an affiliate program. Her reactions to the stuff were anywhere from 'kinda sick', to 'why do people look at this stuff'. Father, don't know him, don't care. My friend's parents will range anywhere from tolerant, to 'tries too hard to fit in', to 'isn't that for adults?'.

Likewise. :/ I ask her in response if she'd rather have me doing drugs and she shuts up real fast.

Personaly my parents don't mind....even though they split up, they still don't mind. My mom lets me watch whatever I want unless its really, really exsplisit (not that I watch that stuff anyway), and likes some of the series...and my dad was into Akira so he doesn't mind. All and all they don't care really.

I had pretty much gotten my parents to understand anime only a few months after I saw my first anime ever:

Yes anime are cartoons, but they can actually be very mature.

oh my mom loves anime now
we watched the miyazaki thrusdays amc showings together
but in the beginning she was like "this shit is crazy" :lolsign:

My mom doesn't dislike it, she says that it just doesn't interest her. As for my dad, he doesn't care, as long as it's not porn. :D

My mom thinks that is like... all about sex and satan worship.
my dad, who isnt racist (he hates everyone equally), gets really pissed when i watch an anime, or read a manga, or have a wallscroll in my room. his excuse is "its all shit they copy from us, then give it a shitty story and make it perverted"

right...

just like how japan only has technology because they copyed what we made.

because the USA is the best country in the world, right?

If anything my family couldn't care less, and my dad is showing some interest into it...my mother won't watch it...and I can't be bothered showing it to my sisters...

zerosconcubine Aug 12, 2006 02:59 AM

My parents really do not mind anime. In fact they support my hobby, but at time s question me to no end. My mother, asks me why anime is so violent or sad. My father just makes his own "commentary" and basicaly Mystery Sciene Theater the series/episodes I am watching. The one he actually took seriously was Angel Sanctuary.
