Great. Now I absolutely have to get a PS3. I must have this game.

See, I didn't know that's what Shadow of the Colossus was called when it was in development. I just remember Qwarky waxing lyrical about how awesome ICO was for eons and finally decided to rent it just to play it before Shadow came out. Either way, I never did get to finish ICO and I bought Shadow of the Colossus 6 months after it came out anyway. I'm still looking for a new copy of ICO that doesn't run upwards of $100.

At first I was like ehh, the graphics don't seem that impressive and that it looks like an old PS1 CGI scene at the part of the chain. However half way through the trailer I was impressed by it, especially towards the end with the part of the moss and grass or whatever it is on the rocks the kid jumps off on. Only thing that kinda annoys me is the kid's model, it looks too shitty. It's like a low poly model and it doesn't go that well with the rest of the environment that looks good in this trailer.

I wonder if this game fits in before Shadow of the Colossus and Ico, after them, or in-between them?

A Neverending Story game would pretty much be the best thing ever.

I gotta watch that movie again, haven't seen it in years. I used to call that dragon a flying dog. Is it supposed to be a flying dog or really just a dragon?

I think it's this. I mean, they did the obvious pretentious art sequel thing which is make a prequel that's only abstractly linked to the previous project. So the classic pretentious thing to do now is to put something in between that makes it look like they planned the whole thing all along. Of course, pretentious isn't a bad thing if you can pull it off, and they've done that wonderfully so far, so I'm definitely not complaining.

I really have to buy a PS3 now...

I've heard that is a year old internal video shown at Sony. If that's true that means the game has had a years worth of development since then and it's going to look much more polished and have any place holders removed. Team ICO pushed the PS2 to it's limit so I expect some stunning visuals for Trico.

Worm May 28, 2009 09:11 AM

Unfortunately they also dragged the PS2 framerates down into the dirt, so I'm hoping I don't take that route and try and cover it up with a bunch of motion blur.

Bloodcinder May 28, 2009 06:54 PM

Hopefully "Trico" can look like SoC but with a decent framerate. Even that would be fantastic.

I guess this should go here:
YouTube Video

Looks like the kid decided to borrow CJ's shirt.

Game still looks beautiful, but god damn that glow is not tasteful like it was in Ico.

I definitely am looking forward to this, but I'm a little disappointed that they didn't have an original soundtrack to go with the trailer.

There's no way I can apply the theme to Miller's Crossing to anything else but that movie, so It had a jarring effect to me. I would have rather had more Ico-like ambient track.

Watch it with the sound off and some Art of Noise on in the background then.

IGN: Fumito Ueda Talks Trico
Some comments from Ueda. Nothing really informative, though.

There's a care aspect for the eagle as well. You can feed the eagle and remove spears and arrows that have pierced it. Ueda feels that the development staff will have to take care to strike a balance and make sure the care aspects do not becoming a chore.

Growth and stage puzzles are major elements to the game. There are platforming aspects as well -- you can climb, grab things and crawl.

The flow of the game is a bit of a mystery right now. Asked if your movement through the stages will be seamless, Uedo said that it's seamless as far as there being no load times as you move about. However, there is an order to the locations that you visit.
...
...the stage design involves how you go about getting the eagle to do stuff for you. Rather than simply saying you're giving orders to or working with the eagle, it's better to say that you're using the eagle's behavior as a living creature. The eagle may not simply follow your orders. But you can, perhaps, throw something that it likes in order to make it move.

Also something to keep in mind as you work through the levels is that eagle's level of intellect isn't all that high (this is what Uedo said -- don't send nasty e-mails to us). It may not move according to your expectations. As an example, you may be able to clear an area if the eagle would just sit still. However, the eagle ends up moving.

Oh, and the real title is amusing:

So this game is aimed at Furries then? I can already imagine the moutain of shitty, furry fan-porn that this game is going to generate.

And you know that Q will have it all stored somewhere...

I had to admit I thought of the same thing as below when I saw the trailer...

I've enjoyed both ICO and Colossus alot, so I am to eager to play this. Hopefully the frame rate won't be as bad as SOTC though.
