Yeah, not much to write home about this week.

I did check out the Paper Mario USF set to find not one, not two, not even three, but over 70+ (!!!) tracks missing from the OST. Damn man, I've played through the game at least twice (once less than a year ago) and I'm wondering how on earth I didn't notice so many missing tracks. Also the USF set contains the final boss theme with the guitar solo instead of the synth solo... I can't believe I haven't downloaded this earlier.

Also Alien Soldier might be the best thing the Genesis has ever done in all departments.

Soothing Theme is nice but doesn't particularly interest me.

3-Prayers has some good parts but that shrill staticy frequency that permeates the song is fucking distracting.

Curse of Iron Pipe has some decent sections, but it feels like one of those songs that didn't take much thought to compose. (Also, CHz, I hear what you're talking about re: Life Force, LOL.)

It seems like you can't have SotW without ESTi. Viridianscape surely isn't one of his most exciting compositions, but it's good.

Virmire Ride has some decent backing elements but the lead instrument and melody is weak as hell. I've only sampled parts of the Mass Effect soundtrack, but I'm quite positive there are better tracks than this.

Sun's Tower has a good vibe going for it, but the composition could have benefitted from more attention to detail, as it feels sparse and choppy.

Treue is pretty groovy. Still not something I'd stick my neck out for, but it's all right.

Technotris didn't catch my ear on first listen, and it's still a brief composition, but it has some parts I like (mostly the second half). It edges out the rest as my favorite track this week, but just barely.

3 points - Technotris
2 points - Treue
1 point - Viridianscape
just missed - Sun's Tower

The game seems legit (certainly more legit than stuff like You Have to Burn the Rope, so it's fine). That's cool TO composed for it, I don't really know him, but I've talked with him briefly. I'll put you on the queue.

Could you do me a favor and set up this poll? It seems like you have some input on the matter and would probably be the best to handle it. Just make sure the voter results are public.

So is voting closing soon or are we extending this to two weeks? We seem to have a decent enough amount of votes.

I guess voting can remain open until Kaleb comes and closes the week. We already have enough votes to reach a decision, so it's just a matter of waiting.

In the meantime, I don't see why the next week's thread couldn't be made.

By the way, Kaleb: Is the SotW ftp info outdated? I've repeatedly attempted to upload nominations but haven't had any success in connecting. I'm using the info on the wiki and nothing on my end has changed.

So, here's my next nomination, uploaded to my private space instead. That works just fine.

No idea why the FTP keeps giving you trouble, Crash, but I uploaded your latest nom for you at least. Next week's voting thread is open too, and I'll make a poll about Castle Crashers next.

Vote 'em if you got 'em on Week 167; if Kaleb doesn't close it tonight I'll add up the points myself tomorrow morning.

Drakken Apr 21, 2009 09:02 PM

No need to do that, he already added them up. Just a matter of the official closing.

Kaleb.G Apr 22, 2009 02:42 AM

Sorry, I was going to close voting after I had the nominations ready for posting, but it looks like that was already taken care of. I didn't do any research on them yet though. I just posted the info I had in the research base. Maybe I screwed up. =o

But anyway, voting is CLOSED!
