Yeah, I really wouldn't worry about playing CoD4 for the story, I doubt it'll be relevant/important to MW2. That said, it is an ace game and well worth playing through, even if you just rent it for a weekend or something and blast through on the normal setting.

DesertEase Mar 27, 2009 05:03 PM

But but ICBMs and nukes in saudi arabia.

Story.

Single Elbow Mar 27, 2009 06:49 PM

True that the story does not matter. At all.

What matters is:

- Tubin'
- Airstrikes and Chopper
- Reload glitchin'
- Russ cheating
- POW POW POW
- HEADQUARTERS LOCATED
- UAV IS ONLINE

Among others. MP is the selling point here and I can't imagine all kinds of horseshit GFF crew will come up.

Tails Mar 28, 2009 02:00 AM

Oh man I can't believe I forgot about the noob tube. Now there's some shit that got old quick. Dudes running around with grenade launchers like a bunch of pricks. It's a good thing most of 'em had terrible aim.

Also reload glitching was the best thing ever. I don't think I've ever seen Skills so angry in my life. I like how it took me about five seconds to go from "well yeah why would you do that" to abusing it whenever I felt like it.

Now, I have issues on general principles with the tendency of folks to dismiss grenade launchers as such, what with their having a place in the ORBAT just like everything else. This said, I think y'all might be amused at the level of whining in this GameTrailers.com thread.
I must disagree with Terminus and OmagnusPrime (and, incidentally, agree with a couple of folks in the abovecited thread): story matters; it's why we're pulling on our combat boots, locking and loading, and getting ready to go into the sharp end.

The whole point is of course that Jessy obviously shouldn't play so much for PLOT, as for the general amazing experience the single-player campaign is. The story itself could be anything, but the presentation and the setpieces are still spellbinding.

That and so many here are more interested in the multiplayer, sadly.

How is that a "sadly"? Don't get me wrong, we all loved the campaign and it was amazing. However, compared to the two plus months of all nighters we spent as a full crew playing online, the single player pales in comparison since you really only play through it once or twice.

Get in the spirit of multiplayer gaming, yo. Infinity Ward spent a great deal of time developing the MP aspect and it really showed.

Edit: Ahahah the title. Requesting the next one be 50,000 PEOPLE USED TO PLAY HERE...

Timberwolf8889 Mar 29, 2009 07:09 AM

It was a shame I picked up the first Modern Warfare game so late, missed the mutual everyone figuring out the multiplayer together...thing. But I still had a good time, might pick this up first day again if my computer can still run it >_>

If you took my point to be 'story doesn't matter', then you took it wrong my friend. My point, quite simply, was that the story of Modern Warfare 1 probably doesn't matter to the story of Modern Warfare 2. In other words, I doubt it will be necessary to have played MW1 in order to follow the story of MW2.

Karasu Mar 29, 2009 10:10 AM

I'm quite looking forward to the sequel. I think what i'm most afraid of is infinity ward ripping off Killzone 2, and implement their cover system and clan shit.

I'm all for inspiration, but lately...game companies rarely get inspired, but rather rip off one another.

On a side note...it kills me that CoD4 for the ps3 has not gotten trophy support and dual shock 3 support >_>

Having clan support wouldn't be a bad thing...at all. I doubt you'll see a cover system though.

Gametrailers has a GT Pop-block of the teaser. Nothing overly informative, but there's some neat details one can easily miss.

I also only now learn he said "No russian", instead of "Go russian". Hopefully it's not as simple as "lol russians all along" again.

Also, given the first game had a form of clan support with the ability to have clan tags, I don't really think it'd be that surprising if some form of clan support appears in MW2.

Cover systems only really make sense in small squad based games or those with an emphasis on stealth. There's not a lot of point hiding behind walls when the enemy are calling in airstrikes on you.

That said, last time I played Halo I killed myself with grenades at least twice by instinctively pulling the left trigger to hug walls Rainbow style. :(

Well..then what do you call Killzone 2?

A game without big enough airstrikes.

GT Pop-Block of the new gameplay reveal, the one that didn't really show gameplay.

Not very insightful, but it did spot a few weapons I missed, if nothing else.

There is a measure of irony here: considering that the ISA cruisers' nose-down atmospheric orientation means that their spinal cannons (if present, suspected to be a lesser form of the Halo universe's MACs) would be available as heavy support fire...

If you guys caught the gameplay video from the other day, the one where you and your boss are scaling the cliff face and then assaulting the enemy base during the blizzard, you may have noticed that your superior was named MacTavish, as in the SAS player character from Modern Warfare, Soap MacTavish.

The assault rifle with the built-in radar was pretty nice, and it looked like the game has a full-auto pistol this time around (assume it is a Glock). The game looks pretty sweet so far.

Saw that; it was a handy bit of continuity.

The 'radar' is in fact a heartbeat tracker (also seen in some Rainbow Six incarnations); if it's an available accessory in competitive MP I expect to hear some griping about it... Of course, it is possible that the UAV Jammer perk might be 'expanded' to shroud players from this as well.
Speaking of multiplayer features, I wonder if it would be possible for the host to disable killcams and (as in America's Army 3) kill messages.
